tabs disappeared after Adobe Flash update
I can't get my tabs to display after updating Flash. I have tried EVERY suggestion in the help and FAQ to no avail. No new add-ons / extensions to explain this either. I'm about ready to give up and try a different browser.
I like my SEO addons and would hate to forfeit them.

Do you mean your tabs from a previous session cannot be restored? Or is it a different problem?
Regarding session restore: Firefox only remembers the immediately previous session.
If Firefox is closed and Adobe opens it to celebrate your update and you close Firefox without restoring your session, and then you open Firefox again, your earlier session probably is lost. I hate it when that happens.
(I never close Firefox now without first checking the History menu to make sure I already restored my previous session.)
There is an extension to store more sessions so you have a better shot at going back in time: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/ad.../session-manager/. In another thread, some bugs were mentioned; I haven't checked the reviews/discussion recently.
Make sure that you do not run Firefox in full screen mode (press F11 or Fn + F11 to toggle; Mac: Command+Shift+F).
If you are in full screen mode then hover the mouse to the top of the screen to make the Navigation Toolbar and Tab bar appear.
Click the Maximize button (top right corner of the Navigation Toolbar) to leave full screen mode or right-click empty space on a toolbar and choose "Exit Full Screen Mode" or press the F11 key.
By no tabs, I literally mean No current tab with the customary plus sign should I choose to open one or more tabs.
I'm attaching a screen shot of what I am trying (poorly) to describe.
I appreciate everyone's input. I have all but given up.
I'm bewildered by your collection of toolbars...
If you go into Customize, does the tab bar appear (View menu > Toolbars > Customize)? Is it where expected or in some other location?
I can understand your confusion by the number / "collection of toolbars" but any tradesman has a number of tools because no 'one tool' can handle all of the work I do - hence the collection.
Now to your question, "If you go into Customize, does the tab bar appear (View menu > Toolbars > Customize)? Is it where expected or in some other location?"
The Tab Bar doesn't appear anywhere - even when I 'un-check' all but the 2 normal toolbars.
Hi Dave, are you using Firefox 30 now? Not sure whether that will make any difference.
Sometimes the file that stores your toolbar layout becomes corrupted and fails to update properly at the end of your session. You can rename the file and customize from scratch. (Starting in Firefox 29, some of the settings will be preserved after this process.)
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using either
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
- Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
- File menu > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old
Start Firefox back up again. Does the tab bar return between the menu bar and the main navigation toolbar (address bar)?
By the way, you may want to disable some nonessential extensions, such as, presumably, "ToolbarBrowser" and "Slick Savings". There may be others that were bundled with one of your tools that you haven't noticed and do not need.
Try disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable (or remove).
Often a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
Even if it does nothing for your tab bar, it may reduce your ad burden.
Does it have any effect if you start Firefox in Safe Mode as a test?
You can use one of these to start Firefox in Safe Mode:
- On Windows, hold down the Shift key while starting Firefox with a double-click on the Firefox desktop shortcut
- On Mac, hold down the Options key while starting Firefox
- Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled
I am running firefox 30. I followed your steps - this did not help.
Starting in SAFE mode restored tab bar.
If I take note of my best tools under extensions and "reset Firefox" then add one extension at a time, that should work shouldn't it?
A Reset may be fastest, but if you have a lot of extensions, it might be worth checking one more thing before doing that.
Sometimes the file that stores toolbar status and window sizes becomes corrupted. You can rename the file to return to the default toolbar status and window sizing to see whether that cures it.
Open your current Firefox settings (AKA Firefox profile) folder using any of these:
- "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
- Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
- type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should open your settings file in Windows Explorer.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
- "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
- (menu bar) File menu > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old
Start Firefox back up again. Any improvement in the tab bar display?
Co-rel starting in Safe Mode showed me there was hope so I began taking a closer look at a couple of the add-ons I had and found a couple of issues that "jscher2000" mentioned & I thought were worth exploring.
I disabled 3 add-ons.
I followed
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should open your settings file in Windows Explorer.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
"3-bar" menu button > "power" button (menu bar) File menu > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old
I followed his steps: 'In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button. This should open your settings file in Windows Explorer.
Leaving that window open, switch back to Firefox and Exit, either:
"3-bar" menu button > "power" button (menu bar) File menu > Exit
Pause while Firefox finishes its cleanup, then rename localstore.rdf to something like localstore.old'
And on the second time I launched Firefox it was back to normal.
So I removed all 3 (one of which was very misleading. From the icon and label it was similar to an SEO tool in an earlier version of Firefox. But when I clicked "More" under the description, it took me to a website I don't recall visiting and it was a glorified "ToolbarBrowser" as "jscher2000" mentioned above.
I wish to thank each of you for your patience and assistance with this problem. As much as I have tried to slow myself down after some health issues - there are still a few things that can push my buttons - computer malfunctions, especially those caused by people who misrepresent their offerings as a blessing when they are in fact an annoyance or worse to unwitting users who have too much faith in too many people.
Thank you again, taking these notes to the laptop to try and undo a "Sync" about a month ago that brought the headache to my recliner :(
All the best folks, Dave
