Hi, Are you using IMAP or POP3?

Which mail server are you using?

  • Try to remove and reconnect it, make sure about ports
  • Could you check the mail after restarting your mobile.

Hi,

Which email provider are you using? Have you tried deleting the email account then adding it back?

hello

and thanks for you help

of course i tried the trick of deleting the account or restating the mobile several times

at the time i am using imap for the provider in fact the Mail app choose by itself, i just gave my mail address the server is ssl0.ovh.net on port 993

how to make sure about ports? are they the same than the one on my computer with a LAN access?

i deleted the account several times and tried with 2 email address which i have with the manual setup (IMAP or POP3) this changes nothing

and these setup work fine with the LAN connected computer

By Default with SSL

  • IMAP port No is : 993
  • SMTP Poert No is: 465
  • SSL - Yes

If your not sure about your port no, ask your mail provider or System Administrator.

Example

  • Gmail user 995 & 587

hello

IMAP 993 and SMTP 465 is what the app set as default SSL - Yes ! but this is not a choice, and this seems to be set as default to an unknown value

but i repeat with the default values:

i can see a list a list of all the mails sitting on the server when i try to download one it will take ages in fact i succeed only one yet for example i started downloading your msg of 5/29/14 9:05 AM i stopped the app which was still running around on 5/29/14 10:00

with a web mail i can download the msg

i am trying to manually setup the account without any success

what can be wrong?

Hi, Try with Active SYNC.

Check the Free space in your mobile. If you don't have free space, then it takes some times to receive.

I've somewhat had a similar issue. What I'll suggest is turning the phone off. Removing the battery and leaving it there for a few minutes. Put it all back then turn on, and then try setting up again.

Hi jeanpierreaubry,

According to the OVH suport site, they also have non-SSL servers and ports available:

Can you please try the following values according to their support site?

  • OVH IMAP port for incoming server ns0.ovh.net - port 143
  • OVH IMAP port for outgoing server ns0.ovh.net: - port the same as in POP 587

I would also suggest contacting the OVH support directly to ensure that there are no temporary issues with their servers or your account.

We hope this helps. Please let us know if your problem is resolved, or if you are able to get a response from OVH.

Thanks,

- Ralph

hello

attention Ralph Daub

i tried that with the non-SSL ovh parameters the trouble is that there seem to be no option for "non SSL" on the Firefox OS phone and whatever SSL or STARTTLS i get the following answer (translated) "impossible to establish a secure connection [bad-security]"

do you know any source where i could find some tutorial about what all these words SSL, STARTTLS, IMPAP and so on mean and imply

if a given set of parameter works on my laptop or on another mobile in wifi mode it should work on my ZTE Open C? right?

when the OS gets running away endlessly in opening an email or creating an account, how long later may i kill the process, assuming there is a bug, 1 minute, 10 minutes, 1 hour, 12 hours?

thanks for your involvment

hello

i finally got a working set up that can be summarized like this

POP3, serveur_name (ss0.ovh.net), port 995, SSL SMTP, serveur_name, port 465, SSL

receiving and sending email works in a decently fast time (i believed POP3 would not work at first, only IMAP, i was wrong)

i have one suggestion in filling up the form one has to fill up 3 times the user name 1- in the general setup 2- in POP3 3- in SMTP as in most practical cases it is the same i suggest the 2 last instances are filled by default with the first instance name

anyhow, many thanks for your help!

POP3 started to be supported in 1.3, there are some issues with it. I am not currently familiar with all the issue surrounding POP3. POP3 will take your emails off the server and store the on the device. If you want to read your emails on your desktop I suggest imap

I do know that if you use activesync ( which was designed mostly for Microsoft's implementation of active sync; ie outlook and hotmail ), you should have a "Days to sync" in the settings. If it takes hours to load, I suggest reducing the setting to something that is less than the current setting. "All" may take a really long time.

If you have it set as imap, then it should load as you scroll down and ask if you want to load more. It may take a little while to scroll to the email you want. The search will only show you the results for all the emails that have loaded onto the device.

Hello, I work on the email app. From the original comment which indicated that the message list was displayed and the existence of an autoconfig entry for ovh.net at https://autoconfig.thunderbird.net/v1.1/ovh.net it seems like the problem is the IMAP part of the code experiencing a problem.

Using POP3 can be a valid work-around for IMAP problems like this, but I wouldn't really advise it unless there really is no other option. (Since we seem to break by default on IMAP, this may be a good call.) Note that we have addressed the manual account setup flow in either v1.4 or v2.0.

The most likely explanation for the problem is that we are having trouble synchronizing the folder list and this is breaking things; this would be https://bugzil.la/925480 or https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1012222. The best way to help us tell is to capture a logcat as described on the page at https://wiki.mozilla.org/Gaia/Email/RequiredBugInfo. Assuming you use a webmail interface or other IMAP client that exposes the folders you have in a list where you can notice a missing intermediary folder, it may be possible to delete the folder (after moving any messages to a different folder) to work-around our bug.

Please provide any logs on the bug that was created for this problem.
