i'm having problems again with firefox on facebook games and simple mail sites. i've reset firefox, the issues still present, i've removed and reinstalled firefox, the issue persists. the other days i read something about this issue would stop if i downgrade to an earlier version. can anyone support this advice? is there a way to upload a troubleshooting report without installing the applet? thanks.

Many site issues can be caused by corrupt cookies or cache.

• Clear the Cache Press the <Alt Key> to bring up the tool bar. Then; Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: Clear Now

and

• Remove Cookies Press the <Alt Key> to bring up the tool bar. Then Tools > Options > Privacy.

Under History, select Firefox will Use Custom Settings. There is a button on the right side called Show Cookies.

If there is still a problem, Start Firefox in Safe Mode {web link} While you are in safe mode; Press the <Alt Key> to bring up the tool bar. Then Tools > Options > Advanced > General. Look for and turn off Use Hardware Acceleration.

Poke around safe web sites and see if there is still a problem. Then restart.

thanks for the reply, but it didn't help. as for the downgrade, i read that older versions have more security vulnerabilities than the new one, so, this option is also out of question. but, i ask again: where can i sent the firefox troubleshoot/crash/health report?

where can i sent the firefox troubleshoot/crash/health report?

If I know what you are talking about, I'm assuming Firefox has crashed and you're wondering what to do with the reports. If you follow the below directions, you can give us the crash reports and we can see what's causing Firefox to crash,

Can you give me your crash reports?

  1. Enter about:crashes in the Firefox address bar and press Enter. A Submitted Crash Reports list will appear, similar to the one shown below.
  2. Copy the 5 most recent Report IDs that start with bp- and paste them into your response here.

thanks for the reply. firefox didn't crash, but, as i said, it's running very slow on games and sites and i thought that by submitting those reports, maybe the issue will be solved. troubleshoot report: Application Basics

Can you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if Firefox works properly with no error? You can start Firefox in Safe Mode below:

  • Windows/Mac: Go to Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
  • Linux: Run firefox -safe-mode in the Terminal/Konsole

If Firefox opens up fine with no problems, it's probably one of your extensions that's causing the issue. You can re-enable your add-ons one by one until you find the one that causes the issue upon being re-enabled.

well, i've done it before and i did it again. so, with no addons enabled, the freezing still exists. and look at the cpu usage and memory usage. my pc specs ar not too hich, but still, this wasn't happening until now and this release. it is definetly from the browser. you check this page and tell me what you think. https://apps.facebook.com/tribez-castlez/?fb_source=bookmark&ref=bookmarks&count=0&fb_bmpos=5_0

ok, so, while i was browsing about this issue, i thought the problem was from the graphic driver so i tried to update it, but it didn't work. ( quite of a story, but this post isn't about it ) so, then, i turned myself upon the idea that this issue might be from the flash player or java and, therefore, i remove the flash player with the uninstaller from adobe and rebooted the pc and then removed java with revo uninstaller and rebooted again. i entered the game above and installed flash from the link. now, it all seems to be better. hope this is not a solution for a few days, and that's why i'll keep this open. so, if any of you encounter this issue, as posted in the question above, here's what i did: remove flash player with the uninstaller from adobe, reboot pc, remove java with revo uninstaller, reboot pc. if it happens again, i'll post further.thanks everyone for the replies.

ok. so, now i'm sure that the crashing and slowness of facebook games comes from adobe flash player. troubleshoot report: Application Basics

now, can anyone confirm this? can anyone confirm that the solution i proposed it's only for a short time, after which firefox still hangs? waiting for replies and hopefully we'll fix this for good.

latest news: after searching some more over the net and mozilla support, i followed this link http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html and after a lot of pc reboot and reinstalling flash, as it says there, i think it got it this time. the only thing i'm still afraid of is about this being a one day solution. so, please, anyone who still had this issue, follow this link http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html and tell me if it's solved for you. i'll still keep it open and search some more !!

come on guys. i need you, if we're gonna solve this !! get to work and try what i posted the other days. i need you to agree with me or disagree !!! please !!!!

Unless and until they do it, and have no problem for some time, you may not get any responses for a while.

Facebook (IMO) has a ton of Flash content. Have you tried disabling hardware acceleration from Flash player itself?

I just tried the link you posted above regarding the Facebook game and Firefox does indeed lag for me. I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS at the moment but I'll boot into my Windows partition in a bit.

In the meantime, you can try disabling Hardware Acceleration in Flash.

  1. Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
  2. Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
  3. Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
  4. Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel.

The image "fpSettings1.PNG" does not exist.
  5. Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
  6. Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
  7. Restart Firefox.

This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.

I've escalated this thread as well so that way someone from our full-time professional Mozilla HelpDesk team can get back to you and provide you more information than I know.

yes, moses, i tried that. thanks. fred, you're right. but, this flash thing happens to me from one minute to another. i mean, if i find a workaround now, after 10 minutes or so of smooth browsing, it gets back to the sluggish way it was ! well, i'll wait other replies that might agree with this issue.

HI bennytheball, There is a flash player project that is being worked on called Shumway that is in the current Nightly version of Firefox. http://mozilla.github.io/shumway/ there is also an extensions you can try to use to play flash.

The mail sites that are causing the issue, is there a chance that the antivirus or avast may be using mail sheild.

guigs2: Hope you don't mind if I leave a note regarding Shumway! :) Please note that the pref to enable Shumway (shumway.disabled) is set to true therefore Shumway is still not the default player in Shumway and is not in working order at the moment. Shumway is not suitable for daily use as it does not play YouTube or other video sites. It'll fall back to Flash. ~m

ok, thanks for this tip. i'll look into it. as for the mail sites, it can't be from antivirus, because i already checked.

Try to disable Protected Mode in Flash 11.3 and above by adding the line ProtectedMode=0 to the Flash "mms.cfg" file located in one of these locations: [46]

   (Windows 32bit) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
   (Windows 64bit) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash

For example, on a Windows 7 64-bit system, open the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash folder, copy the file "mms.cfg" to the desktop, open it in Notepad, add a new line ProtectedMode=0 and then close Notepad, saving your changes. Next, go back to the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash folder, rename the original file to "mms.cfgBAK" (to save it as a backup) and then drag and drop in the modified "mms.cfg" file from the desktop.

Note: To re-enable Flash Protected Mode, either restore a backup of the original mms.cfg file, if you saved one, or else re-edit the mms.cfg file to remove the ProtectedMode=0 l line you added. Updating Flash Player or installing a newer version does not automatically re-enable Protected Mode

more options

are you sure v13 has a protected mode? if it does, thanks, i'll try it. just so you know, guys, i want to thank all y'all that tried to help, but, as for now,i'm sure it's from the adobe flash player, so i'm taking this up to them. i'll leave this open, though,if anyone should have other solutions for us to try!

more options

Yes, Flash versions 11 to current have Protected Mode enabled by default. Be sure to make a copy of the mms.cfg file just in case. Please try the Protected Mode disabling before posting to Adobe. Chances are Adobe will ask you to uninstall/reinstall, disable HA, disable PM, etc. same as we are doing here.

i've tried it now, with the same result: while the game loads, the memory usage of firefox goes up to 1,000,000 kb and what bothers me is that i know that before this version, the game went smooth and that's why i'm sure the reason is adobe. i tried to make a screenshot with the task manager, while i had 2 tabs opened in firefox: one with this post and one with the game loading and in 15 seconds, the memory usage reached about 800,00o kb and i could barely close the game,in order to finish this reply.
