Not sure where to put this; too many issues at the same time.

Initial post: https://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?p=792869#p792869

cat history.log-* history.log | grep -i firefox -B2 Start-Date: 2024-02-11 19:50:43 Commandline: /usr/bin/unattended-upgrade Upgrade: thunderbird-l10n-en-gb:amd64 (1:102.13.1-1~deb11u1, 1:115.7.0-1~deb11u1), thunderbird:amd64 (1:102.13.1-1~deb11u1, 1:115.7.0-1~deb11u1), thunderbird-l10n-fr:amd64 (1:102.13.1-1~deb11u1, 1:115.7.0-1~deb11u1)

- Thunderbird moved the top menu bar to the left, now has unreachable buttons at the bottom due to negative interactions with other menus and window manager => tried many forums, but all changes to ./chrome/userChrome.css are ignored. - the quick filter button was moved from the toolbar to an individual bar, adding one new line above message list, reducing the vertical space for content - new management of borders have negative interactions with window manager (tried both options, with and without decoration, both are ... BAD). making it impossible for window manager to properly resize window magnet to other windows - there are large sensibility zones for decoration management catched by TB that make some buttons unreachable in the left bar, and the window manager gadgets i have below (quick launch and desktop management) - there is a new sensibility zone between the top menu bar and the top decoration of windows that give access to some window manager menu, useless at this place, and it reduced the vertical sensibility zone of the buttons, making the click box smaller, and reducing the effective size of buttons, making them harder to click - the unread message count which used to be a nice light blue is now white in a dark grey box, catching the eye more than necessary, slowing me down, and increasing my brain work to focus on what i need to do. also this value is unconsistent; my inbox is curretly shown with 411 total messages, and 630 unread. If i unfold the folder in left column, it seems i have only 89 unread in inbox, and 2 in one subflder, but, to me, 89+2 is not equal to 630. - the file/edit/view menu bar is now BELOW the actions buttons Get/Write/Reply ... - if I roll up the TB windows in the top decoration, any mouse click in the place where the win used to be remains inefficient. So, TB completely broke E17. A shaded win still occupies the screen as if it's unshaded, and more (about 20 pixels below the bottom decoration). - It's 20y the message list was aligned on the top message, so I always made that box half a message taller than an exact message line height multiple, so that the half line white space was a proof I was at the bottom of the list. Now, the list is aligned bottom, and the top line is shown half. I now have no way to know if i am in middle on bottom of list (plus lift is now auto hide).

i don't have any screenshot from previous version for reference. And half issues are bad interactions with E17 about magnetism, and size of click boxes, and this can't be shown on screenshots; even videos would not help if you can't feel it physically, or never used E17 yourself in the past; you can't know how it used to behave.

All these changes have an intense negative impact on my work speed. They slow me down.

TB had almost not changed in 20y of use, but these changes, at the same time, with so many consequences on window manager ... I can't stand it. 20y of habits lost in one evening. Not something you can change at my age.

I have seen only one improvement (bug fix) in recent TB: "save all" attachements works now fine from the menu under the message, and we no longer need to use Save All from top menus (regression bug between TB 1.2 and 1.5, IIRC).

After a few years of not using Thunderbird, someone at FOSDEM convinced me to give it another go but now I'm running into trouble adding some of my accounts. I have 5 different gmail addresses, two gmail and three on my own domains that are hosted by gmail. I managed to add the two gmail addresses without a problem but the three email addresses that are on my domains won't authenticate. When I added the gmail addresses a window popped up asking me to allow Thunderbird but with my domain addresses it does not. I guess it has to be a setting in google admin for my domains but I have no idea what it is called, what to look for or where to find it.

If anyone can give me some guidance it would be highly appreciated.

Many thanks.

In a nutshell, I've had problems multiplying with Thunderbird for months now. I'd reset to default settings if that was an option. It doesn't seem to be. My fear is that if I just delete the program, reinstall it, and restore all of my old profile, some of the problems I'm seeing might be transferred back. So I'm wondering if I can just delete the program, do a fresh install, and restore the important parts instead. (Messages and Contact List.) Version 115.7.0 Thanks.

HI, I have switched from Windows to Linux but I do not know how to migrate Thunderbird. I have done it before from Windows to Windows. I saved my Thunderbird folder expecting to paste it into my new OS but I cannot figure out where to paste it. Clicking on "open directory" in "troubleshooting information" does nothing. I installed Thunderbird on the new OS. I pasted the folder in the home directory and renamed it .thunderbird, but the app still does not find my data. I am using elementary OS. I am new to Linux. Step by Step instructions help a lot. Thank you for your help!

I have been using Thunderbird for many years, untill march 2023. Then an authentication error made an end to it. I have tried everything I could find on internet, uninstalled Thunderbird, removed everything from the program / data / roaming directory, deleted everything I could find and checked that cookies are allowed. I have used BlueMail as an alternative but I love Thunderbird much more, so I now tried again to make a fresh start when a new installation of the latest version of Thunderbird. Connecting to the email server of caiway works fine, but I am unable to connect to a gmail. I have tried two different gmail accounts, both give the same error "Unable to connect". Is there anything I can do to solve this problem and enjoy using Thunderbird again?

I had thunderbird set up on my windows PC to look at emails when the PC died. I was able to transfer the data on my PC’s HD to an external hard drive which I can access from my new computer. But my new computer is an iMac and I no longer have a PC. I can set up thunderbird on the iMac but can I pull my data from the external hard drive to use with the app on the iMac? What file(s) should I take from the external hard drive and how would I install it? Is there a way to convert my pc data to something for a Mac?

Following automatic update to Thunderbird 115.7.0 on my MacBook Pro laptop (11,4 - 15 in. 2015, OS 10.13.6), Thunderbird suddenly stopped sending messages out of my primary e-mail account (Spectrum Road Runner). Upon clicking Send, the progress bar displays momentarily, then disappears and the following "Send Message Error" appears: "Sending of the message failed. An error occurred while sending mail. The mail server responded: <r*******@twcny.rr.com> sender rejected. The email address you are sending as must match the email address you used to auth. Please check your SMTP settings. AUP#Out-1500. Please verify that your email address is correct in your account settings and try again." Consultation with Spectrum Road Runner tech support confirmed that the problem is not on Spectrum's end. Thunderbird account settings seem to be in order. Curiously, though, I have three other "profiles" in Thunderbird e-mail (two locally hosted by a small firm and one aol.com) and all three function normally, including sending. Any insights would be most appreciated, as such tech problems are way above my pay grade. Thank you.

My computer of the last few years crashed and will not reboot. I did not manage to copy over my old Thunderbird profile info, so that is now lost.

However, I do have my old pop3 email folders saved in a folder with my other document files.

I'd like to rebuild my Thunderbird email account so I can access all the emails saved in my email folders but am not sure how to go about doing that without my other profile info.

Is this possible? How would I do it?

Huge thanks for any help you can provide.

I came across this message from March 2022 -

"I read at AskLeo that I could use Thunderbird with Gmail as a way to backup my Gmail emails to my computer. I then want to backup the Thunderbird folder using a backup program to save the emails to an external drive.

On Windows 10 Home, where do I find the emails that Thunderbird is downloading from Gmail? I recently installed Thunderbird 102.1.0 (64-bit) using IMAP and OAuth2 authentication. "

which describes my problem well.

The answer relates to Windows 10, but I am using Linux Mint. I think I installed Thunderbird flatpack version but I cannot find the profile to backup and although I think all my emails (around 25,000) were downloaded from gmail, I cannot find them and so cannot take a backup.

Profile Made With 32-bit Thunderbird On A Detachable Hard Drive Is Not Directly Useable On 64-bit Versions

I keep my profile on a detachable USD hard drive so I can use Thunderbird on my laptop when I travel just as I do on my desktop. Thunderbird on both of these computers is the 32-bit version and kept up to date (version 115.6.1). I know how to point Thunderbird to use the profile on the USB drive via the profiles.ini configuration. Recently, I bought a new desktop computer and downloaded Thunderbird from the download web page. UNBEKNOWNST TO ME it downloaded the 64-bit version without giving me a notice or a choice. I edited the profile.ini file to point to the profile on the USB drive and it did not work well. The calendars were disabled, no mail folders appeared and no email accounts appeared. My contacts were OK. So, I shut down the new desktop and I put the USB drive in my old desktop, ran the 32-bit Thunderbird and it now looked as dysfunctional as it did on 64-bit Thunderbird. Ooof. Dead in the water.

Fortunately I had a 2-month old backup and restored that profile after renaming the damaged profile folder on the USB hard drive. I then copied over the mail folders from the damaged folder to the restored profile folder so I would have all the latest mail. I also copied over any files in the main folder of the damaged profile that had not been changed by the 64-bit program on the new desktop computer. Fortunately, when I ran 32-bit Thunderbird, all my email from the last 2 months was there. Some recent calendar entries were missing and I had to redo the POP protocol for one of my 5 email accounts I manage with Thunderbird as I did a couple weeks ago. Yay! I immediately backed up the USB hard drive.

So, any clue why this happened? I am planning to make a test on the new desktop. I uninstalled the 64-bit version and installed the 32-bit version. I am going to restore the 32-bit profile folder from the backup to a USB stick with just the profile folder to see if it works as it does on my old desktop and laptop by just editing profile.ini (and installs.ini) as it is on those two systems.

Hi Everyone,

I used Thunderbird briefly a few years ago, then (for work reasons) switched to Outlook, and I uninstalled Thunderbird from my PC. Now I have retired and I want to try again with Thunderbird. So I downloaded the current version (115.6.1. 64-bit) and installed it. I find that it remembers my previous account settings, and over a thousand contact details, which I no longer need (or want) now that I have stopped working. It is also looking for work email accounts which no longer exist. I assume that Thunderbird archived all these data in a folder somewhere on my PC when I uninstalled it years ago. Now I would like to get rid of these settings, account details and contacts, and return Thunderbird to its out-of-the-box settings so that I can start again from scratch. Is there a quick and easy way to do this, without affecting any other systems on my PC?

Thanks all.

I think I have a corrupt profile in Thunderbird. I would like to totally wipe the installation from my computer and start over.

When I uninstall using the built-in installer in Windows apps, some of the features are removed, but apparently not all, because when I re-download and reinstall, my old emails pop right back up. That tells me that info. about that installation is still lurking on my computer somewhere. I want a completely fresh installation that requires me to recreate my Thunderbird profile, etc. and requires me to re-link Thunderbird to my G-mail account.

Is there a way to accomplish this erasure?

Thanks a mil.
