Hi. I've been a loyal user to Mozilla Firefox for many years now. My concern is whenever I updated the browser from the past, It deletes my settings and extensions. That's whats keeping me from updating it for quite sometime now. So Im simply afraid to do it. For example. Part of my research entails an extension that downloads and converts from a video site. After an update this is removed. I have to re-install everytime. I so got tired of this. Its so annoying everytime it asks for updating, I have to opt out. Is there some way I can update this without messing up my settings? Has Mozilla already worked out a version without messing with my settings? Thank you for the help.

I love Firefox but updates are becoming annoying to the point of me not wanting to use it anymore.

It's bad enough there are so many updates, and it's bad enough that we have to mess about with CSS to customize Firefox, but having to redo the hard-gained custom CSS regularly leaves me speechless.

The CSS may be obvious to you folks, but for anyone not knowing the browser structure it's a time-consuming nightmare.

Rather than coming up with fancy new features a lot of people may not need anyway, please first make it more usable by adding options for features such as the tabs position and adjust the CSS behind the scenes.

Mozilla just a little self-righteous there, maybe? I've used Firefox exclusively since release of Windows 3.1 and bragged on them often, but this is deplorable. How do I remove the constant pestering to update?

Hi,

When I try download and install mozilla firefox it gives a prompt "This version of Firefox requires Microsoft Windows 7 x64 or newer". But the fact is that I'm installing it on a Win 7 64-bit environment and the firefox installer file is also 64-bit. I have verified the minimum system requirements for firefox installation and it meets the criteria. But still it doesn't allow me to install and gives the said prompt.

Tried various install files and no luck. When I try download it is the stub installer file that is available for latest versions. Refer the screenshot of the error.

I have a MacBookPro with OS 10.13.6. In System Preferences/Notifications I have unchecked everything regarding Firefox banners/alerts, etc. But I still get a 2" x 3" pop-up in the upper right-hand corner of my screen, with "A new Firefox update is available." I don't want this reminder--I will check for update at my convenience. This is a real nuisance--how do I stop it?

Hi, I can’t install the latest Firefox update (63.0.3). For some reason, every time I launch the bowser it looks as though the update is installing, but when I check manually, it’s still not updated and the process repeats itself.

If it helps, I’m using Windows 10. (I’ve already tried clearing my cache.)

On this computer I'm using, every single time there's a new firefox update, it always seems to fail the auto installation process for the update and it prompts me to download a fresh copy of firefox. This bothers me a lot, because I can't just let it do it all for me for some reason and have it nice and updated the next time I want to use the browser. I always need to it manually. I don't need to do this on my other computer either, which bothers me even more, because I have no problems with firefox updates on my laptop, but on my main PC it'll keep going with these problems. This has been going on for quite a while and I don't know how to fix this.

I have mozilla set to notify me when an update is ready but I just watched it update with no input from me.

example: [no input] Double click on the Firefox icon on the desktop and it says wait while we install the latest update. Then the little updater box with the progress bar opens showing update in progress. I DID NOT OK AN UPDATE!

How can I rely on software that does not follow settings? I am using Win 10 and the most current {NOW) firefox thanks to it updating without my permission. This is also why I now use Chrome as my default browser.

In Linux Mint 18.1, Firefox 62.0.2_64, I installed (extracted) Fx to /opt, in its own new directory (/opt/firefox). Earlier, I created a new profile using profile manager, for an earlier Quantum version Fx 60.x esr..

Then copied several of MOST recent days of bookmark backups (.jsonlz4 files) from the PRE-Quantum profile into the new Quantum profile above, that has only been used with Fx Quantum versions. Note: Some of the jsonlz4 files were copy & pasted from old legacy to new quantum profile; after that, Quantum backups were automatically created (so should be compressed?).

Are there easier ways than I know about, to quickly tell if 2 bookmarks files contain *approximately* the same number of non-corrupted bookmarks - in a human readable way, or file comparison (in Linux) that creates a list of elements found only in one file?

Is there a way (say, convert to a spreadsheet or CSV, etc, to find all differences in specific column, or something similar?

I'm not so sure something didn't go wrong, moving bookmarks from a Legacy profile to Quantum profile.

The places.sqlite files are IDENTICAL size in both the old legacy profile vs. new Quantum profile. That's a little odd, as exporting to html - the most recent bookmark files of legacy & quantum profiles and comparing them, the legacy bookmarks.html files have a LOT more lines (~ 3000 more lines- "line numbers", in text a editor ). Graphics / icons count as one line, so larger icons or higher resolution doesn't explain a much larger # of LINES in the legacy html file . Maybe that's if bookmarks in places.sqlite don't contain descriptions - ever.

The automatically backed up Legacy bookmarks*.jsonlz4 are considerably larger than the equivalent Quantum automatic backups. The files I'm comparing should have nearly the same bookmarks. No significant additions or deletions of bookmarks were made to either Legacy or Quantum bookmarks, so that's probably not the size difference.

Mozilla said? they wouldn't SHOW bookmark descriptions starting in Fx 62 (that's now), BUT WOULDN'T REMOVE the descriptions DATA from bookmark files until a LATER Fx version, so Ghacks.net says.

Comparing the exported bookmarks from Legacy & Quanum profiles, seems clear the Quantum HTML files do not contain any descriptions. Quantum bookmarks*.jsonlz4 files are ~ *35% smaller than Legacy files (that should contain the same set of bookmarks.

I'd guess that either Mozilla removed descriptions sooner than promised, or moving Legacy bookmark files to Quantum profiles removes descriptions, intended or not.

I absolutely *must* use an older version of FF, and regardless of how many times I install 52.9.0 and click off the auto update feature, it auto updates! Seriously annoying. If you turn off the auto update, it should do just that. I have tried every troubleshooting trick in the book, yet this continues to be a hassle.

Why firefox force updates itself without the consent of the user from version 42 to 62. It has been a long time between 42 and 62. Yet, firefox is so clumsy not to ask the user of updates. A user cannot keep track of his changes for 2.5 years. In this case firefox should have the courtesy to ask the customer to ins tall updates but it does not. Slyness. Including google.

NOTE: This forum is quite bogus as it doesn't allow me to register just to reply to existing threads. So now you get yet another question for this topic that you're dodging all time, mozilla. Why are you behaving LAME like the rest of the internet? Now the actual issue. I am using Firefox 52 ESR due to the horrible npapi plugin for java. I am completely aware of all the security issues and so are my users. We are waiting for the developers to use something else than java. I run a Linux environment and I cannot run either Explorer or Safari. Recently Firefox ESR 52 started updating for no reason, even with updater disabled.

I resolved by removing the updater binary and the updater.ini files in the Firefox ESR distribution. At least it seems it's not doing it automatically anymore. We will see how it works, since developers are behaving like apple developers in this forum, instead of disclosing technology they hide it. That S U C K S! Regards, bjaast (Florido Paganelli)
