Hello, Firefox takes more than 30 seconds to load. Thunderbird is also slow. I've had this problem before at the end of last year. After a while it got better. But now I have to wait again. I scanned windows with various anti-virus and anti-malware programs. I have absolutely nothing. I only use Microsoft anti-virus. I have run many repair options on the net. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. This long wait to load before I can use the software is really irritating. Internet Explorer starts within 3 to 5 seconds including the display of the first page. Best regards Otto Haldi

I have the problem that my firefox crashes everytime i try to start it. I have to create a new profile with the "-profilemanager". Then it will work for like 1 or 2 hours and then he crashs again. I also tried to reinstall it...,

Firefox does not save any crashreports or something. I also tryed the "clean up" function.

I'm desperate...,

Everytime, since a few weeks, when I start a new session I have to accept cookies again with many websites. e.g. Google or De Telegraaf. Normally with the Telegraaf I have to log in just once, but since a few weeks I have to log in every time. In firefox settings I have "remember history" on.

I'm on a Mac, running the latest version of Firefox. Recently I've had some work to do that meant I wanted to keep multiple tabs open, so I changed my settings to 'restore previous session' so I'd get my tabs back when I turned my computer off/on.

For a few days all was going well, then Firefox crashed. I managed to get it back up again and change the setting so it wasn't trying to restore multiple tabs. But since then no luck, Firefox opens but I get the spinning wheel curser and Firefox shows as non-responsive, I have to force quit the app.

I've tried uninstalling it, still no luck. I'm writing this from Google Chrome.

Can anyone help? I much prefer Firefox, but it's currently unusable for me, and as the browser freezers I can't get into any of the settings etc.

This is basically a copy of what I put in the Ubuntu forum. The problem is the same, no matter where I post it.

Originally I was using Ubuntu 18.04 LTS.

I thought it would be good to update to GG (20.10) though I did briefly try FF (20.04).

As the install was done on an existing 18.04 version things remained the same for programs, book marks, etc.

Ok, now the crunch: I USE Firefox ""A LOT"". When it loads, there are...... 8 x 6 windows of FireFox and each of those have anywhere from one to ""THIRTY"" tabs loading.

Believe me: ""It worked!!""

I could use it, also run other tasks as well - though a VM was pushing it with the RAM. But the entire machine worked.

Now, I am lucky if FireFox loads at all. Let alone let me browse.

When it loads some of the window's tops are flashing. A screen shot does not really show this. (I tried)

All that has changed is the O/S from 18.04 and Firefox from (what ever it was) to 83.0

I don't want this to be a finger pointing exercise between Mozilla and Ubuntu. I would prefer it is helpful to all.

What have I tried? I've tried starting FireFox with all addons disabled. Still happens.

I am going to try to remember to (next time) launch FireFox from a Terminal and pipe the output to a file to look for things.

The machine I am using has shown it is well up to being able to have this running. I have had it working for a few years like this.

This post is (for now) to establish there is a problem. I will post more information when I get it, rather than waiting to get it then post, as I feel there are a lot of people who have very similar problems and I want it known: ""You are not alone!""

Now a bit of extra stuff.

Other things which are weird: When I am watching stuff - youtube for example - the playback is/WAS jerky. I hadn't touched anything in the settings.

After digging around, I discovered that I had to turn ""OFF"" the hardware acceleration for the graphics. Question: How did it get turned on? (Semi rhetorical)

I have a lot of local pages I open with passwords. When I load them the CPU load goes through the roof and nearly invariably the program just exits. No crash report.

Which is a good 50% of how it happens. The other 50% is the machine just locks up and I have to power it down.

For some reason, recently firefox now starts up when ever I start my computer & goes to MSN page. I have searched this & found out how to make the one line item in advance preference to FALSE. This was suppose to fix this but did not work. Now when I search the same question I do not get the same answer to go & check if is still set to FALSE. Don't remember if this started after a browser update or windows update. Ready to quit using Firefox browser

since months I have problem with automatic launch of Firefox on my computer, It's really insupportable. I'm ready to abandon firefox. I'm on windows 10 and I use Firefox 83. There is 3 different sessions on my computer and only one has the problem.... my session. Firefox launch a new windows always and regularely, when the computer start, and all the time during the use of my sessions. If i'm already on Firefox, a new windows open's.... If I close this one, few second after an other open's..... If I put this one on background, about 1 min after again an other open's. Like this always and indefinitevely. Whatever my use of the computer or the site to visit. Even when I don't use internet and use other software to work, Firefox starts up and goes in front of my software. If I let my session opened and I do nothings, after a certain time a lot of firefox windows are open. You can easily understand why I say that It's really insupportable... and this only with Firefox on my session.

My computer is protected with antivirus, and I did a full scan several time, I also tried with an other antivirus software. I used 2 softwares for detect malware... Nothing. I try to uninstall and reinstall Firefox, but the problem still the same after reinstall. I already set the "toolkit.winRegisterApplicationRestart" on "false" but firefox start alone again, again, again...

Does anyone has an idea of what is the problem and what I can do ?

Have tried just about everything (i think) as i have read in the other support posts. When i boot my computer and try firefox, it loads for a second and then crashes asking to send the crash report and to restore the tab. I click yes and it crashes again with the same window. Sometimes if i reboot it all of a sudden works. But literally everyday when i log on for the first time it crashes, then i reboot and sometimes it crashes, and then sometimes on the second reboot it just works somehow. I have tried installing earlier versions, refreshing firefox, starting in safe mode etc.

Here are a few of the crash IDs that were submitted successfully (others failed to submit). Thanks for your help.

Hi, Huge problem here. My Firefox won't start. There is a message that Profile is Missing, but no solution from support helps. Itried to reinstall app, romove profiles, copy profiles from time machine when the app was running, even profile manager doesn't start from terminal - it throw same error.

I dont have any idea what's wrong. Someone something? Please help me.

Hello! I've been using Firefox for years now, and just recently set up a dual boot system with win10 and kubuntu. I've never had this problem with Firefox before, and it's only a problem on win10. When I open Firefox, there's only blank white where a page would normally be. Trying to right click brings up nothing. I can open the menu, but things like options, add-ons, customize, etc. all do absolutely nothing when I click on them. When I click on the icons of my extensions in the upper bar, the extension interface is empty as well. Nothing changes when I try to load a page--Using the search bar causes a spike in my otherwise flat ethernet usage (I dont have any other processes running that use it while im testing this, but just to cover my bases I can access the internet without any issues on discord or other online applications.) The search bar does retain what I searched. Rather than becoming about:blank, it just becomes, for example, "https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-1-d&q=test" Other browsers work completely fine. I've tried doing a completely clean reinstall (deleting files in ProgramFiles, %appdata%, the Old Files folder that is created during an uninstall, and uninstalling using the apps and features menu.), using DISM to check for anything wrong in sys32, opening Firefox in safe mode, opening it as an administrator, disabling any firewall or antivirus i can find, and deleting my Firefox profiles. Nothing has changed anything at all. Please help! <3

Every time I start up my PC I can find a firefox.exe process in the task manager that uses 40-50% of CPU and I have to terminate the process manually every time. Firefox is not enabled in my startup so I don't know what causes that process to show up and use that much of my CPU (note: an opened firefox browser with multiple tabs only uses around 5% of CPU just for reference)

When I open Firefox, I receive the following: Firefox can’t find the file at jar:file:///C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox/browser/omni.ja!/chrome/en-US/locale/branding/browserconfig.properties. I have seen the help that suggest I go to "about:config" and the browser.startup.homepage, which I have done. But the suggestion doesn't state what I should do once there. What do I do to the browser.startup.homepage?

I'm not sure what I can do to fix the problem; the answer I've found uses the Profile Manager and I can't access it, it'll open for a split second then close again.

I work in IT and multiple users are having this same issue. It seems to have started at the same time about a week ago. When clicking on Firefox, no window opens and the cursor begins to rapidly flicker or spin. There is no error message given. When checking Task Manager, there are multiple instances of Firefox running. Trying to "End Task" on each instance proves futile because it seems that they are constantly refreshing (which is probably why the cursor flickers). Trying to run the command "taskkill /f /im /firefox.exe" sometimes works and sometimes doesn't, even in Administrative mode. The only sure fire ways to get the cursor to stop flickering and/or close the program is to restart the machine or uninstall Firefox. However, if Firefox is clicked on again after restarting, it goes back to flickering and no window ever opens.

Things I've tried:

1. Using "End Task" in Task Manager

2. Running CMD and using taskkill /f /im /firefox.exe multiple times.

3. Restarting the machine.

4. Clearing ALL temp files from the machine.

5. Uninstalling and Reinstalling Firefox

6. Uninstalling, deleting Mozilla folders from Program Files, Program Files (x86), and Reinstalling

7. Checking to make sure Firefox is not blocked by the firewall or anti-virus.

8. Uninstalling, deleting Mozilla folders from Program Files and Program Files (x86), Deleting Profile data from AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox, then Reinstalling

Nothing seems to be working. Any ideas?

Initially the Crash Reporter window would open occasionally, but clicking on ‘Try Again’ opened the programme. Now it will not open at all. I’ve completely unistalled the programme and installed the very latest version, but to no avail.

Firefox has opened successfully for years. Today, I double clicked on the icon, and it will not launch. I uninstalled and reinstalled it two three times and no luck. So I then tried performing the profile creation and got the following result.

Profile couldn’t be created. Probably the chosen folder isn’t writable. [Exception... Not sure how to solve this.

FF updated to version 67. On a couple of Windows 10 machines so far, FF won't start. Double-clicking the icon does not work. Task Manager will show two instances of FF and the EXE closes out after a minute, and the program does not start. Rebooting does not help. The Win10 versions experiencing issues after updating to version 67 are a Win10 1703 and a Win10 1803 machine.

No matter how I close Firefox, (X, File->Exit, Menu->Exit), if I start it again it doesn't automatically restore the previous session.

If I click on "Menu->restore previous session" it does restore it.

Of course "Restore previous session" is enabled.

Why did it stop working, what changed?
