When printing a pdf from the built-in pdf viewer (pdf.js?) to a network printer, it's so slow as to be unusable. Save the same pdf and open it it in Xreader, click print, and it starts printing immediately. Size of the document seems to play a role; I knew it was slow from trying to print smaller documents in the past, but today I needed a hard copy of a 68MB pdf, and hours later, it still had not printed.

I'm running latest Linux Mint Debian Edition 4 Debbie and latest Firefox in its repositories, 78.11.0esr (64-bit). Printer is Canon imageRunner 2200, it doesn't have any other slow printing problems, as I stated above.

Problem seems to have existed for a long time...

I use this workaround to fix tearing on my mediacenter powered by a intel baytrail hardware.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Firefox/Tweaks#Enable_Legacy_OpenGL_compositor

until v88, it was working fine.

With v89, the setting layers.acceleration.force-enabled=true has no effect. The "about:support" page reports Compositing: webrender (software) whatever the value true or false.

I had to downgrade to v88.

Solved, but have a question still: I can set "pushbuttons" on my WebSDR sites to be able to recall a frequency on the radio dial, but after I close Firefox and restart FF, these settings are gone.

A webSDR site is one of many listed at www.websdr.org. Each site hosts a software-defined radio receiver that can be tuned by the user, independent of other users tuning the radio. AM broadcast, shortwave broadcast, ham radio and longwave broadcasts can be tuned in and listened-to off the air and streamed to your computer from all over the world.

I run the latest version of Firefox (89.0) (64-bit) on Linux Mint 20 Cinnamon.

In Settings, I search for cookies, and find Cookies and Site Data, and check the box for "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed." Then for every site I want cookies to persist from session to session, I "Manage Exceptions," and place the web address in that list, then allow every one of them.

In History, the next heading down, "Firefox will: Use custom settings for history." Here I used to save for the session, first- and third-party cookies. This has been removed from history. However, I still "clear history when Firefox closes." In the related Settings, I have only Cache and offlline website data marked for removal.

The webSDR sites all have a place to put a name or radio callsign. This is saved with a cookie.

So I don't have to type that in every time, I click on the lock on the address bar. Brings down a menu. On "Connection (not) secure, there is an arrow on the right. Click there to bring up connection security information and then click the bottom line, "More information." I land on another drop-down's Security tab. I use the tab to the left, called Permissions, and find "Set cookies." Remove the checkmark to use default (session cookies) and select the Allow button.

Just two lines below that has a "Store data in persistent storage," with "Use default" checked. I need to check this out!

Allowing cookies has saved me from having to re-enter my name on the webSDR site, but the page tells me that if I store a memory preset, that is saved on my computer with a cookie. So I don't get it that my name is saved, my presets are not saved and when I query the site's cookies, there ARE none!

Here is my work-around: In Delete history when Firefox closes, and its related settings, I now only clear cache, and unchecked to clear offline site data. I tested two sites and I am keeping my preset pushbuttons.

Now: I have just reinstated clearing offline site data when FF closes and have set one of the sites' permissions to allow persistent storage.

I will submit this report and close and reopen Firefox, check the site for retention of the memory preset and report back here.

Fedora 33 shipped with firefox-81. Just recently the first firefox update to fedora 33 landed. That update is firefox-89.

It is dead, no, excuse me, it's DEAD and DEAD slow. Youtube and streaming video sites stutter so badly that I'm lucky to get 2-3 frames per minute even if the audio holds up. firefox-89 is also slow on other fronts, no, excuse me, it's DEAD slow on all fronts.

I have a large number of windows and tabs and cutting that number by 25 to 30% has no noticable effect.

After searching for solutions, the top suggestion was to disable "proton", but no that had only a tiny effect.

What are the mozilla people thinking? My guess is that they are not thinking.

Another worthy question is, how did this awful piece of software get distributed by the fedora project.

Look, I've been using mostly firefox since it's beginning, but come on, this is ridiculous.

I downgraded to firefox-81 but now some of my streaming services have stopped working because of an unsupported browser. Additionally, gmail does not work after the downgrade.

I know I'm not a loner in this and I know that firefox-89 is not the most recent version to disappoint in a major way. I predict that firefox will be history within a year unless Mozilla pulls it's act together.

Facebook is a culprit. Also OctoPi, a local service. Facebook, at least, uses rem units. Doesn't react to zooming in.

Hi everyone!

When I browse the web with Firefox, it happens that the system becomes completely unresponsive. Some web pages seems to make Firefox using a lot of RAM and write a lot on the hard drive. I cannot actually say much more, because it not even possible to login in a console. The system is too slow and the console login times out... Firefox (or Web Content) writes wildly on the hard drive.

I used the Firefox provided by my Linux distribution (Linux Mint), but also the one downloaded from mozilla.org. The problem seems to be less frequent for the second, but it happend nevertheless.

The point is that this problem with Firefox happens sometimes, for example, when I forget the browser open on somehow demanding webpage (like in newspapers where there are a lot of media, graphics, and so on).

A point is also that I cannot replicate this "bug". If now I browsed the same pages that made the mess, nothing would probably happen.

I thought it had to do with the swap, but the system hanged both when the swap space was enabled and when it was disabled.

I saved a copy of the profile (and the cache) after the last crash, if they could be useful. The last time I had actually to force the shutdown of the computer, because there was no way to regain control over it.

Any ideas?

Thank you for your answers!

Hello,

The gestures defined by browser.gesture.swipe.* do not work on Firefox Linux unless the ALT key is held down. I only discovered it that worked at all with ALT by accident while searching about this issue...

Is there a way to get gestures to work WITHOUT requiring the use of the keyboard (which would seem to defeat the purpose of having touchpad gestures)?

Thanks.

I have noticed that when I manually log in into accounts.google.com with no prior cookies in the browser and no association with a google account prior to that, it automatically logs me into sites like youtube.com, even with the strictest cookie policies (tried with Strict, custom+cross-site and custom+third-party). I do not particularly mind privacy wise since I'll log into them with the same account anyways, but as far as I understood, there should be absolutely no way this should happen. Cookies should be isolated by domain, I have uBlock Origin installed which prevents cookie sharing between domains by setting some CNAME records in subdomains (Uncloak canonical names), and afaik Firefox does not automatically read the google account cookies and share them around - if it did, that would be even more serious. So what is happening here and how can I change that? This seems to be a serious issue that I'm honestly not comfortable with out of principle since I chose the strictest settings.

I've notice that some of the short cuts have been implemented, while others are not. It is possible to implement them all, as it's annoying when I try to do a copy and paste operation, and have to .. Left Click .. my mouse to execute a copy operation, while pressing [ SHIFT + INSERT ] to do the paste operation. I would prefer to just press [ CTRL + INSERT ] to copy.

PS .. I've also noticed that [CTRL + END] works, while [CTRL+ HOME] does not.

Since the latest update, Firefox shows a white space at the top of all web pages, covering almost half the screen. This includes customisation screens for addons, themes, and also the troubleshooting page. The only page that seems unaffected is Firefox's own settings.

The issue seems linked to the toolbar somehow, as entering fullscreen mode temporarily hides the issue. However, as soon as the cursor moves up far enough to show the tabs and search bar, the white space also reappears. Hiding either the menubar, the bookmarks toolbar, or both did not fix the issue.

Restarting Firefox in troubleshooting mode seemed to help, but I have not managed to find the root cause. These are the things I tried, first one by one and then all at once, with no result:

  • Deactivating addons
  • Switching to system default theme
  • Deleting userChrome.css
  • Clicking "Refresh Firefox..." on the troubleshooting page

I have set a primary password in Firefox. Sometimes, the password prompt appears out of nowhere. For example, I have Firefox running in the background while I'm using a completely different application, and suddenly, the password prompt appears, asking me for my Firefox primary password.

This is very distracting, so I'm wondering if it's possible to configure Firefox to ask me for my primary password only while I'm using it. I don't care if the prompt appears as soon as I start Firefox, or whenever a new page is opened that requires a password. The only important thing is that the password prompt doesn't distract me while I'm using a different application.

Thanks in advance for any hints.
