First, I just had a major system crash, had to re-install Linux Mint and through my own stupidity, relied on the wrong backups for my firefox configuration. So I lost my Firefox 52 install with all of my extensions (that still worked). Now, I'm running v. 57 Quantum, and a few things aren't working correctly.

First, the MAJOR problem: when I open a link from a bookmark, it's clobbering an existing tab that I was using (that's why it was open, obviously). That is completely unsat and can not be allowed to continue. How do I correct this? I can't find the option under settings-->tabs to fix this problem.

Second issue (major annoyance): I can no longer create a bookmark directly in a bookmark folder on the bookmark toolbar. I used to be able to open that bookmark folder, and the first option was to bookmark the currently open tab. That option has vanished, and i use that all the time. How do I restore that?

Actually, one more issue: I have two tabs that are pinned and are supposed to be protected (i.e., nothing can clobber them, and I can't close them without deliberately turning the protection off (context menu right-clicking on tab). I need that back, because for some reason, firefox thinks it's ok to open a bookmark in those tabs, too, when it most definitely is NOT ok.

Thanks, Jim Graham

Hi There,

We have an issue with any version of Firefox after 57.04. It affects a few dozen of our users. It appears to be specific to our environment, but we need help tracking the source of the issue. The issue in on Windows 10 and Windows 2016 operating systems.

Firefox appears to update successfully, but when we attempt to run it the process appears in task manager using 2.5mb of ram. Nothing else happens. No visible errors, and no windows open. After killing the process we can run the 57.04 installer to revert, which results in a perfectly functional Firefox.

The issue seems to be specific to our environment, but not specific to hardware platform.

We have tried many things: -Various installers and update paths/methods -Safe Mode -Removing addons prior to upgrade -Clean uninstall/install (including deleting firefox profiles) -Disable and uninstalled AV softwares. -Disabled Group Policy Objects.

Please let us know what troubleshooting steps we can take to locate the source of the problem.

Any help is appreciated!

While installing the newer version, there is a (windows 10 UAC pop-up) message asking - "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?". My question is not how to stop this message, but what exact changes firefox is making to my device. I tried running firefox as a non-administrator as suggested in this forum but that didnt help. Thanx for any help.

Windows 10 64bit. Firefox quantum 57.0.4 (54 bit) On some websites only, firefox constantly redownloads the video content. As soon as the video download reaches 100%, it starts redownloading again and again. Does not happen on all websites with video.

I restored an earlier version of Firefox from backup of 2 months ago and that behavior stopped and I could again watch videos.

  • No change in addons or preferences.

I allowed Firefox to update to the latest version again, and the problem returned. Removed all addons: problem persists.

What is different in the latest version of Firefox that would cause that?

Note that I'm NOT asking about address-bar suggestions, but the address bar itself. There's a little info icon with a green lock followed by the url. Some websites (ex. the Washington Post) display a title (also in green) next to the lock and before the URL. It can be quite long, and makes the address bar inaccessible --- even for not-so-narrow windows. When this happens, there is no typeable area or visible text area to select. The only way to enter a new URL is to first navigate away using the back button (or open a new tab/window). I assume this either is very obnoxious marketing or bad configuration on the website's part. Is there a way to disable the display of anything but the lock itself? Again, to be clear, I am speaking solely of the address bar itself --- not the drop down suggestions or any other part of the browser window.

I tried disabling favicons and site icons (I figured it could be some sort of big icon), but that didn't work. Disabling extensions had no effect either --- so it's clearly firefox proper. FF 57.0.1.

Any help would be appreciated!

Cheers, Ken

I have three devices, a desk top, a laptop and an iPad. The desktop is running a very outdated version of Firefox which means it is not compatable just to update it. The forum tried to help me with this a while back, but it was deemed not to be possible, and the best way would have been to do a fresh new install, but there was noway to save log-ins/passwords bookmarks. My devices all have the Firefox sync and that is so far working well. My question is, if I dragged my PC's Firefox into the present by performing a fresh new install, would my synced items install ok....after invoking the Sync feature on the new install. Logic tells me this should be so, as it worked ok with the new iPad, but I know from experience that logic doesn't always come into play. (Windows7) Many thanks

My home computer Firefox screen and with ALL my information suddenly showed up on my work computer when I opened Firefox this evening. This is very bad as other people use this computer as well. I didn't sign-in to anything or even open my personal email account. i just opened Firefox to use the internet as I always do and what came up is what I see on my home computer. How did this happen? And far more important, how do I make this go away immediately. Like, this minute. this must be the fault of Firefox Sync, which has turned out to be a complete nightmare. I disconnected my work computer from sync but apparently it's back again. In fact, i never added my work computer to my sync account to begin with. I wouldn't be that stupid. But the work computer showed up anyway. I got rid of it, but it came back tonight. Basically, it's hijacked Firefox/Google on my work computer, It's bringing up my personal computer Firefox/Google page - AND all my personal information, including history, passwords, bookmarks in the process - instead of the Firefox/Google page that normally is displayed when Firefox is opened on my work computer. Even with deleting my sync account my personal page is what comes up when opening Firefox. This could be disastrous. The IT department would just love to see this coming up on one of their network computers. Sync is a terrible idea.

How can this be corrected and all my personal information deleted from my work computer?

Thanks for your assistance.

I just installed mint 18.3 and I'm still pretty green. I know there's a solution but I can't understand it.

_______________________ Enable touchscreen gestures

Make sure dom.w3c_touch_events.enabled is either set to 1 (enabled) or 2 (default, auto-detect).

Add MOZ_USE_XINPUT2 DEFAULT=1 to /etc/security/pam_env.conf and then logout or reboot your system for the changes to take effect.

_______________________

I'd like to know what this means (sorry for being dum), otherwise I wouldn't mind waiting if there's plans to add scrolling in future updates.

Hello everyone,

suddenly (no update was done) all my passwords are gone from FF. I am asking myself now: What happened? One of the solutions in this Forum helped: Using Shadow copy tool. So this way I could rescue my old profile folder. However, I ask myself now this:

- I was so frustrated of this that I completely deleted my account. So I think all data is safely gone, right? My plan is now to delete the current temporary profile folder, restore the old one, then recreate sync account. Will this work or can I get trouble because the folder name is already used up on FF servers? From my point of view this should not be the case if my account was really(!) deleted and this plan should work.

- Anyway: Although I found a solution I am asking my self why this happened. I had NEVER such an issue with Chrome so I really starting to doubt the security/integrity of FF. If a bookmark gets gone or something like this it is not a big thing to me. But ALL PASSWORDS is a heavy issue. So is there an explanation to this?

- In general I am asking my self if I could continue using FF. Because I just googled this topic intensively now for 2 hours reading a lot stuff and it turns out that password storage (even with master pw) is extremely insecure because of not enough iterations and Hash algorithm used by FF.

So is FF even a secure Browser? To me it doesn't look like that anymore. The main reason switching back from Chrome to FF was data privacy and security. Because I also didn't trust google so much. However, it is much more important to protect me from 3rd party instead of Google/Mozilla. But I am not sure if FF can protect my data very well (suddenly deleting ALL passwords, no secure PW storage).

Thanks for your info! Best, Chris

Since I reinstalled my Windows 10 laptop, Firefox 58 or higher won't launch. Firefox 57 or lower starts fine. But when I install FF 58+ and start the program, nothing happens. The cursor changes briefly and after a couple of seconds there's no more activity. The firefox.exe process shows no more activity.

What I tried: - Installed FF 58 or higher and started the program. No luck. - Started in safe mode, or profile manager. No luck, nothing happens. - I deleted all firefox files/registry keys (also from %appdata% and %localappdata%, as well as all reg keys below HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Mozilla. No luck. - With ccleaner I cleaned up all temp folders. No luck. - I temporary disabled a/v software (Windows defender and Palo Alto Traps). No luck. - I was running Windows 10 1607. I upgraded to 1709, but still no luck. - I analysed the process firefox.exe with process monitor from sysinternals. I don't see anything weird and after a couple of seconds, the process finishes with exiting a thread, and that's it. No more activity from this process, until I kill it manually. The process monitor log doesn't show any activities in accessing the user profile settings. - When I install FF 57 everything works fine. Then when I choose to upgrade, the upgrade finishes but FF won't start anymore. - I can't find any log files explaining what's going on. - Before I reinstalled my laptop, I used the same image (sccm) 1 year ago, and firefox was working fine then. - Finally I also looked at other toolings which could interfere, such as VLC media player. I removed those tools as well. No luck.

I'm at a loss here. Can somebody point me to the right direction? Perhaps version 58+ introduced something completely new which somehow causes issues with my installation? Any log files I'm missing, which might explain what's going on?

Thanks.

This Mozilla support forum DOES NOT have this problem. Please notice I have pressed [Enter] at the end if each line. This is the third line. There are no blank lines. The following is copied from another un-related forum about "double spacing".

Before I describe this problem, let me describe my configuration. I am running Linux MINT on an Apple iMac. There is no Apple software on this machine. Firefox Quantum is my browser of choice. [Enter]

This is a new line. I now see three lines above, auto-word-wrap after 'Apple', and no extra blank lines. [Enter]

Now I preview my typing, and there are extra blank lines added after each. [Enter]

Have not seen this CR-LF problem since using DOS & WordPerfect (circa 1985).

CarriageReturn & LineFeed.

This is my 7th line of text. Count 'em. Depending on the width of this window, you may have more or less lines due to the auto-word-wrap feature. You counted the first blank line? CSS defaults to the Top Margin + Font Height = first blank line.

end of copied text.

Also, Mozilla Thunderbird defaults to this oddity, meaning all eMails I sent, were received double-spaced. However, it has File, Edit/Preferences/Composition/HTML, checkbox labeled: 'Use Paragraph format instead of Body Text by default.' I switched the X to space, turning double-line-spacing OFF.

My question: How do we turn this oddity OFF in Firefox ?

I play one game on Facebook called Coral Isle. When I click to play while on my HP Stream running Linux Mint, the game appears to fully load, but then the above error message appears.

I've seen reference to something called Nightly (no idea what that is) and another, more recent incident, but when I looked into the response didn't seem to apply. I followed what they said to do with putting 'about:support' and I searched for the same information about something failing, but didn't see anything similar. So I thought I'd ask again. I'm also going to send an email to the game's support to see if they can offer any help.
