Here's the situation: My firefox is not responding. I click on it and nothing happens, yet when I go to Finder to try and open/close it from there, it gives me the error message "The application Firefox is not open anymore," however, when I try and shut down my computer it won't let me because Firefox is open. My dashboard is signaling the program is running, so I'm not sure why it's not responding. If it helps, I was able to re-download and install a second version of Firefox which seems to be running fine. Attached is a screenshot of my dashboard, with the Firefox on the far right being the one that's operating.

I installed new Firefox update now Download Helper doesn't work right also my homepage will not stay set as I set it. I have three computers in my household and I have updated Firefox on two of them and both have problems. I still have version 35.0.1 on my main computer and I do not plan to update until Firefox works right with these problems and any other I might encounter. The reason I'm still running version 35.0.1 is when I updated 35.0.1 to next update, Download Helper would not work. I contacted support and was told that Firefox ver. 36 was not compatible with Download Helper and that the problem would soon be fixed. I have the latest ver. of Download Helper and it still doesn't work right with Firefox. I had to reinstall Firefox ver 35.0.1 to get things working again, so I will stay with ver. 35.0.1 until the problem is fixed although I am constantly hounded to update to ver. 39. I realize that there might be some security issues but in order to keep my software working and keep my home page(Yahoo.com) I will stay with ver 35.0.1 until I am assured that all problems are fixed. I thought an update was supposed to make things better not worse, but this has not been the case since ver 35.0.1.

At random times Firefox crashes, it happens all the time. Sometime it just freezes and shows a blank screen, forcing me to kill the process. Here the latest crash report: bp-09c208cc-9d31-4a44-88e0-5029d2150218. Usually it seems to have something to do with video and image intensive websites.

Using Windows 8.1 64bit, latest drivers installed etc etc.

This is just really annoying, what can I do about it? Thanks

I have recently encountered an interesting error with my browser, in that trying to update Flash to 16.0.0.305 (the latest version), the browser tells me it's already up to date on the Add-ons manager page. BUT then I go to Plugin-Check and it shows a "vulnerable" 16.0.0.257 Flash.

Plugin Check: http://puu.sh/fBNWT.png Add-ons Manager: http://puu.sh/fBO0d.png

The actual Adobe website isn't working for me and hasn't worked in over a month, it shows just a blank page: http://puu.sh/fBO53.png

I'm trying to update to alleviate a problem with a few websites I use that constantly show the "A script in this movie is causing Adobe Flash Player to run slowly. Continuing to let this script run may cause your computer to become unresponsive." dialog box. (Not a Firefox message, this is an actual Flash message.) It's annoying because I have yet to find out how to disable it, it's wrong because I know full well the website is optimized, and it freezes my whole browser for minutes at the time. Clicking "cancel" hangs the browser for a few seconds, and then the message just reappears. (Tested in Firefox, IE, and Chrome) Any Flash gurus out there with knowledge on how to completely disable this message...? I'm hoping that updating will help, but with no way to tell which version I'm actually running, I'm stuck.

Hello all, I am very confused and disappointed with using Firefox dealing with outdated plugins. Everytime I go to the plugin manager, I can easily see that there's a link that said "Update now". I was expecting to take me to the plugin's website prompting me to download the latest plugin, instead, I was redirected to one of your site that described why the plugin was blocked.

So in short, when I clicked on Update Now, I was expecting to go to a link from adobe website for the flash plugin, instead I was redirected to this website instead - https://blocklist.addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/blocked/p178

Now can anyone tell me if this is a issue between linking to the correct website or just simply misunderstanding the word "Update Now"?

I also happen to find this link below very misleading; The instruction clearly stated that there's suppose to be a button that said "Update", but where exactly? On that webpage? In a different form window? In another website page? Please make this instruction more clear and understandable. - https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/?utm_source=firefox-browser&utm_medium=firefox-browser&utm_campaign=plugincheck-update

Title says it all.

Ever since FF 28, the amount of RAM used in windows, as reported goes steadily up over time?

I'm currently using FF 35 (yes, it's upgraded, the 'update' button does nothing.)

Case in point, just today, I went to work in the morning, and my OS reported Firefox RAM usage at 787,943k

My computer (and browser) sat idle for nearly 12 hours, but when I returned, the OS reported that usage was now 1,356,989k. This is with scripts turned off and Flash disabled. I did a quick about:memory, saved the current profile, and ran all the GC, CC, and MMU. Did another profile save and ran the comparison. I then refreshed ALL my tabs and ran and saved another profile. Did another one after resetting FF completely shortly thereafter.

While the internal profiles in Firefox reported that the GC, CC, and MMU did decrease the amount of RAM used, the reported RAM usage by the OS barely fluctuated. I bookmarked my currently open tab sessions, and closed all but 1 tab (the default 'about Firefox' page) - the RAM usage was still over 1GB. Only after closing the entire program and reloading the previous session did the reported RAM usage by the OS decrease by any significant margin.

This has been a significant problem since update 28 and onward. I used 3.5 for as long as the internet allowed me to before it locked me out of things like Flash updates. I eventually updated to FF30, and that's when I noticed this systemic problem with the program - eventually I rolled back versions slowly over several weeks one by one, until I hit FF 27. At that point, this (what can only be described as a) significant memory leak slowed to a trickle. And I have been browsing with FF27 ever since.

In the last two weeks, Firefox has been very rudely locking me out of proper page loading due to 'out of date Flash' EVEN THOUGH I HAVE AUTO-UPDATE TURNED OFF - I have it turned off for a reason - I'll update when I want to, not when forced to by an invasive external programing(programmer) telling my browser to ignore my wishes. Turns out the latest Flash update won't install over FF 27. This forced my hand, and now I've been running FF35 (fully updated) with very disappointing and terrible results.

Thread after thread after thread of users complaining of the same problem in every major version (28 until now) have been met with "Must be user error" or blindly throwing the " https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-much-memory-ram " link up on the screen without even so much as reading the actual problem. I especially love the "you should update, that'll fix it" or the "yeah, that will be fixed in the next update", and it hasn't been fixed in ANY update since FF 27 - and honestly - it's been going on to a lesser degree since at least FF 18 or FF 19, but I remember for certain before that.

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1011071 discusses this exact problem in much more detail than I've given - but is mostly ignored by people who, once again, blame the user, or forcefully suggest that very much useless in this case https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-uses-too-much-memory-ram link. I've tried the information on that thread for every major release, but to no avail.

There is a severe disconnect with what Firefox's internal measurements of RAM usage are, versus what is reported by the OS. This usage goes up all the time, on it's own, with no interaction from me. Eventually forcing me to restart Firefox altogether once it reaches the 1.8GB range or so (which kills the rest of my computer's performance, until I do so) every 36-48 hours.

I'm running a 64bit windows OS with 8GB of RAM, 74.3% of my 2TB primary disk drive array free, and the most up-to-date commercially available video drivers.

The only addons I run (and even when they, too, are turned off, it makes no difference - I can watch it happen either way) are: Block Site (fully updated) Google Privacy (fully updated) and YesScript 2.0 (fully updated)

I do NOT run No Script or any of the other major larger script blockers, as they've become too bloated, essentially negating themselves. And Firefox is automatically blocking Flash right now (even though I have updates turned off - seriously, OFF mean OFF) after I updated to FF35. So yeah, not using flash right now, either - I am waiting on updating flash so I can see how well I can browse without it.

For whatever reason, even though Firefox *thinks* it's releasing RAM back to the OS, it's not actually doing so, or doing only a small fraction of it. I'm starting to run Firefox less and less in favor of Chrome and Safari (I haven't decided which one yet). Mozilla Firefox has been my favorite browser for nearly a decade - and I don't really want to have to give it up over such a fixable but serious performance hit.

I have the same issue as the one mentioned in https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1004390

I'm on 35.0.1 and have tried other issues to resolve this.

As you can see from the process explorer (attached image), there's the "real" Firefox process (the first one) that has a Window, but every time I click on a link from within Outlook, it causes a _new_ process that has no window and doesn't do anything (the second Firefox in the attached image).

Thoughts?

Software: Windows 7 and Firefox 35.0.1 (previously 39)

Problem: When I open a window, I want to start a fresh browsing session. But Firefox instead reopens all the tabs from a previous browsing session. Seems like an easy fix, right? Well, I've taken a number of reasonable measures to fix this and it persists!

What I've already tried: I've selected the option to not reopen tabs on restart. Problem persists. I've selected option to delete all browsing history on close. This appeared to work, but when I changed the setting back, Firefox reopens tabs from before I told it to delete browsing history. Clearly it didn't really delete. I've selected option to go to my homepage on opening. It starts to go to homepage, but then replaces it with my old tabs! I've even uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox and THE PREVIOUS TABS ARE STILL THERE!!

Please help me if you can. This is driving me absolutely crazy. (Thanks)

So, I've been having this issue for sometime now. I went through all the help pages, read through all the different ones on Mozilla support and Adobe's official forums, and I haven't been able to stop it from crashing.

It started around a month ago, and I've just been trying to deal with it, but it has gotten to a ridiculous level of hanging. It almost never crashes, but it hangs indefinitely making me have to end it in the process area of the Windows Task Manager. It hangs when I open a new tab, when I'm mid-video, when I just leave it for too long, and randomly whenever it feels like it. And each time it looks different.

I also have some of my most recent crashes here if they are helpful:
