This is both a settings issue, and a privacy and security issue. I want to disable the google lens context menu item to protect my security and privacy from constant AI monitoring. I've almost accidentally clicked the new option before and I don't want to send photos or images to google's AI unless I specifically intend to do so.

I feel like Mozilla is interfering with people's privacy more and more, taking away features from their users, adding features we don't want, butting in and telling us how our browsers should work. This is starting to become absurd. Now you've added AI into the browser that can control how your tabs are displayed and named even, a setting I found while trying to disable Google Lens.

There's a couple other settings I need to figure out how to disable too, such as the context menu of translate and the ChatGPT context menu items. I just removed ChatGPT and a new AI chat bot option appeared. Just wow. What the hell Mozilla. Is your intention to just turn your browser into one big spyware?

Give me the option to disable all of this stuff you keep adding. I have a policy thats supposed to disable your auto updates too but YOU disabled that as well allowing you to install all this malware/spyware into my machine without my authorization.

Hi! I'm on a relatively new to me (refurb) desktop computer running Win 10 Pro (64 bit)* and Firefox 143.0.3.

In the past week both Firefox and Win 10 have updated. I don't know what happened, but now when I boot up or reboot, my computer opens to MS Edge. Yuck!

Every single time I have to reinstall Firefox! Once I do that, all is well again. I have all my bookmarks back, etc.

It also keeps changing my "default to Firefox" browser setting, turning it OFF, while I'm using Firefox. I repeatedly have to keep going in and clicking to make FF to the default browser again.

Why is it doing this? How do I stop it?

Anyway, I know I can't delete Edge or uninstall it. How do I shove it back into the black hole it has lived in until now?

Thanks very much in advance for any help offered. :)

With Firefox 144, there is unasked for/unwanted AI introduced. How do I ensure that all AI is completely disabled in my browser? I found a link describing some settings, but want to confirm this will disable ALL AI in the browser. I don't want it, don't trust the privacy/security holes yet to be found and would prefer it was not included in Firefox to begin with. The list I've found is:

  • user_pref("browser.ml.chat.enabled", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.chat.menu", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.chat.page", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.chat.shortcuts", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.chat.sidebar", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.enable", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.linkPreview.enabled", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.linkPreview.optin", false);
  • user_pref("browser.ml.modelHubRootUrl", "");

Will this do it? What about:

browser.ml.chat.nimbus

Do I need to clear that field to ensure I don't get some auto opt-in in the future as more and more of this "stuff" is put into the browser?

Why not leave Firefox as a security/privacy conscious browser and put out a separate AI browser (FirefoxML?) for those that are not as concerned. How does Mozilla ensure that no information is leaked through AI from sessions for professionals that must protect physician/patient, attorney/client information or other legally confidential information?

I was planning to start using the AI chatbot sidebar finally, tried out all of the free options available and settled on HuggingChat. The very next day, HuggingChat ceased operations. I don't really like the other preset options, but I have a couple of other models that I would be interested in trying out. Is there some way to add a different model than the five preset or am I just out of luck?

I have a Snowflake add-on, which requires WebRTC for connections. But WebRTC is not permanently active in my Firefox browser. See image. I activate WebRTC by toggling the config variable media.peerconnection.enabled into 'true' and the add-on works. For some time, only! After a couple of days it is back to 'WebRTC not detected'. What is wrong?

I'm a user of the new "Ask AI" feature in Firefox, and while I appreciate the convenience of having an AI assistant in the browser, I've noticed a significant limitation that prevents the feature from being truly useful.

The Problem

Currently, when you right-click and select the "Ask AI" option, the prompt sent to the chatbot only includes the selected text and the page title. It completely omits the page's URL. This is the prompt that is sent:

* * I’m on page “<tabTitle>Get Support | Mozilla Support</tabTitle>” with “<selection></selection>” selected.

  • * Please summarize the selection using precise and concise language. Use headers and bulleted lists in the summary, to make it scannable. Maintain the meaning and factual accuracy.

This is a major issue because without the URL, the AI cannot access the full context of the page. It can't scrape the content, analyze the structure, or understand the full context of the selected text, which is often crucial for generating accurate and comprehensive summaries or answers. The feature, as it is, relies entirely on the user manually selecting a large block of text, which is clunky and often insufficient.

Proposed Improvements

   Include the URL in the Prompt: The most critical improvement would be to automatically include the page's URL in the prompt sent to the AI. This would allow the AI to properly "see" and interact with the full page, making tasks like "Summarize" much more effective.
   Allow Custom Prompt Editing: A second, highly beneficial feature would be the ability for users to customize the prompt before it's sent. This would give users more control over the AI's output and enable more creative and specific uses of the feature beyond the pre-set options. This would also allow users to manually insert the URL if needed, as a workaround for the current limitation.

These changes would transform the "Ask AI" feature from a novelty that only works on selected text to a genuinely powerful tool for research, content analysis, and productivity.

Thank you for considering this request.

Hi all,

I’ve been experimenting with Firefox’s new AI chat integration and adding custom prompts via `about:config` using `browser.ml.chat.prompts.#`.

Right now, prompt values are static JSON strings, like:

```json {"label":"Answer","id":"answer","value":"Answer selected question"} ```
This works great for fixed text, but there’s no way to dynamically include useful context like the **current page URL**.
For example, I’d like to create a prompt like:
```json {"label":"Summarize w/ URL","id":"summarize_with_url","value":"Summarize this selection. Page URL: {{url}}"} ```

…but currently, `{{url}}` (or similar placeholders) isn’t supported, and the AI chat doesn’t automatically pull the page URL as context.

This means I either have to manually copy/paste the URL or use a separate bookmarklet workaround, which breaks the smooth workflow.

    • Feature request:**
  • Add support for variables like `{{url}}`, `{{title}}`, or `{{selection}}` in `browser.ml.chat.prompts`.
  • This would make prompts far more powerful and let AI chat automatically reference page context.

Has anyone found a hidden about:config trick for this, or can this be added to Firefox’s roadmap?

Thanks!

Hello,

I wanted to ask if there’s a way to configure the setting for "Store data in permanent storage" (or "Daten im dauerhaften Speicher speichern" in German) to always block/disable ALWAYS via Group Policy or Registry Editor.

As we are a small company, I would like to apply this setting for all Active Directory users.

Thank you

Best regards,

Andreas

Is there a way to completely opt out of having AI in my browser?

I find recent implementations of AI in Firefox quite frankly disgusting. I don't want to see it, I don't want to use it, I don't want it suggested to me. Not only it's unneeded, but also all your LLMs are a waste of electricity, fresh water and are a threat to my privacy, and we don't even mention all the legal trouble AI scraping creates.

I need a switch to completely remove any mention of LLMs/AIs in my Firefox browser unless I search for it on the internet (and, trust me, I wont; I'd prefer to continue thinking for myself and having real people with skills and talents do things if I can't do them myself) and have none of them touch me in any way. Kill that thing with fire.

Ideally Firefox, one that advertises itself as a secure browser with respect towards its users, shouldn't have any mention of AI in the first place, you know. But since companies are in a craze about it for some unknown reason (trust me, we don't want it; if I want to be lied to, I'd go to a paediatrician to talk about my symptoms, not a language model I can't trust with my data), at least give your users an option to get that awful thing out of their browser it they want to.

Have a nice day. <3

I don't know about you, but I loathe the recent push by the majority of tech companies to integrate the wasteful and environmentally harmful technology that is Generative AI into every corner of the digital landscape. I am especially disappointed in Firefox following the Gen AI hype and inserting it into our experiences as a default without considering the massive amount of users who are not interested in this tech for morons, those who want nothing to do with said tech, or people like myself who f***ing hate it. I am aware that you can shut off AI features by using Firefox's advanced configuration, so I'm wondering if such an option already exists for this coming rollout feature.

I for one believe Firefox should give its users the option to preemptively opt out of rollout features for things involving Gen AI which many, like me, are in vocal opposition against.
