Both browsers (Firefox 21 & IE) installed on my 64-bit Widows XP desktop refuse to start either from clicking the desktop icon, the start bar menu, or the executables themselves. What does happen is that all icons disappear from the screen for some 15-30 seconds, then the icons are returned to the screen, and the last informative message displayed from the system tray at start up is repeated.

Deleting Firefox and reinstalling will start the browser as the last step, but when the new copy is closed it will not start. Also just rerunning the installation download without deleting Firefox will "Upgrade" and start as a last step but when the new copy is closed it can not be restarted. Running restore on the new copy has on apparent effect on the ultimate inability to restart after closing.

I only tried the IE browser after being unable to start Firefox (its ordinarily only used by the MS update procedure) and have not investigated either reinstalling or repairing it.

We have run into what seems like a serious closure bug in Firefox 22.0.

The simple following code executes fine in IE and chrome etc. but fails in a very scary way in FireFox - it thinks the function is undefined !!!

If the code is executed outside of the if statement (or if just the function definition is moved outside the if statement) everything is ok.

The same error occurs (not defined) inside other closures like do .. while etc.

We are scared. What did we miss?

I need to keep the Firefox version 3.6.6 due to compatibility issues with other programs running on my servers. I've successfully installed this version but whenever I open Firefox I get this message: 'Your browser is out of date Upgrade today for the latest in speed/security.' I click on the No Thanks icon, however, I get this message every time I open Firefox. I have my settings set to NO auto update. How can I get this window to not display?

For example, I click on one link after doing a Google search, then I decide to go back & check one of the other links. When I go back instead of seeing my Google results screen again, I have a blank Google screen. Then I have to put my search terms in all over again. This does not happen using Internet Explorer. Thanks for any help

I repeat, WITHOUT having to change my Firefox version, change the plugin version, or UPDATE versions on either.

I want Firefox to quit bugging me about having to ACTIVATE a DEACTIVATED plugin.

I DO NOT want to UPDATE VERSIONS of plugins or the browser and I DO NOT want to have to "click to activate plugins."

It seems that Firefox collaborates with plugins to determine if the vendor has put out a new update. If there is a new update, Firefox inconveniences me.

With Firefox version 25.0 the behaviour of the "search" field (bottom left) seems to have changed: when I have multiple tabs opened and search i.e. in tab 1 for "search string" the other tabs don´t feature the same search. Instead I need to CTRL + F and enter the search string for every tab.

This slows down searching massively - typically you may open a bunch of Google links and then scan for the same search string.

Is there any setting I may use to overcome this? Or are there plans to revert to the "old style" behaviour?

I want to prevent pop ups, pop unders, etc. Literally not one answer was appropriate, so I am rephrasing the question. I want firefox to simply not even acknowledge the request to open ANY new window or tab from the html code, website, server etc. I don't even want it to alert me that is hasn't acknowledged the request to open a new window or tab. I don't EVER want to see a firefox window or tab or instance that I haven't directly caused via mouse or keyboard input, and I want it to be COMPLETELY transparent. How do I do that? (I don't care if the answer is long or technical.)

Mozilla just updated to version 29.0 beta. My browser was set up as following:

File, Edit, View etc are first; then there is home button and address bar; then bookmark toolbar; and finally tabs.

Now tabs are on top of address bar and I can't move it down. I tried going about:config with browser.tabs.on Top but it just does not work at all.

I use default skin for Firefox and I don't have any visual add ons.

I need to import passwords from an old version of Firefox (3..0.5) into version 28.0. I have read the other threads, but they refer to signons.sqlite which I do not have, instead there is a signons3.txt (which does appear to contain valid details but with encrypted names/passwords. I do have a key3.db however. What would be the best way to import them, preferably without uninstalling V28, installing 3.0.5, porting the necessary files, then upgrading repeatedly until the signons.sqlite is created?

I often read longer internet text in a way to select/higlight small portions of text (it is much easier for eyes). After updating on firefox 24.2.0, selecting any text makes small baloon pops up on end of selection, and cover some words...

Baloon has 4 search items: duckduck, google, wiki and canyon.

I can not find way to disable this baloon, but it is really annoying for me. Please help me. thx

Since the last update of Firefox Beta 32.0.. I have been unable of downloading files. It start to download, and when it reach approx the 90%.. it holds there and doesn't continue. I already tested in some webpages and I obtain the same results.

I want to migrate my Firefox profile (bookmarks, passwords, last sites visited, installed extensions/apps settings etc) from my Win XP 64 machine to my new Win 7 machine. Firefox is up to date (34.0. 5) on my XP 64 and Win 7 machines (I manually installed the active apps/extensions on Win 7). However Firefox was originally installed on my XP machine many years ago (at least 6) if that matters.

I've read the articles and tried everything I can think of but *nothing* works.

On my XP machine, I have only the default profile (from running Firefox with the -P option). This is located in C:\Documents And Settings\TexasTim65\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\1f2yd5bq.default

On my Win 7 machine I located the default profile in C:\Users\TexasTim65\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bjy0sgis.default.

Try #1) I copied the 1f2yd5bq.default folder to Win 7. I run Firefox -P but the profile manager only sees the default profile. So it apparently can't detect new profiles randomly added to the Profiles folder. So that's a no-go.

Try #2) I open the bjy0sgis.default folder on Win 7. I delete everything in this folder. I then copy and paste in everything from 1f2yd5bq.default. I start Firefox and it's got nothing. No bookmarks, no last sites visited and I assume no password info or anything else. So this doesn't work for me either even though MANY people claim this is all they had to do.

Try #3) Using the profile manager on Win 7 I added a new profile called Main. I once again copied everything from 1f2yd5bq.default into the new profile. I set Main to be the default profile used (which I know works because it uses different extensions/plugins) but of course I have nothing from my copied profile.

So I'm stumped. Something is different about my setup that isn't allowing me to migrate over in a simple manner.

P.S. Is there any thing I can do to get Firefox to create the EXACT same profile name under Win 7 as I had under XP? I would have thought the same username would generate the same default profile but apparently it doesn't.

Hello I´m having problems with MP4 files on windows XP it´s weird it looks to me as I am missing some codec because in windows 7 in the same computer works fine. The problem is mainly in sites that only have the MP4 option like VINE... the native firefox player wont load so it will default to the flash player ... Flash player loads and all the controls load as well but something looks weird a message displays saying the video could not be loaded... and if I press play nothing happens

English needs no qualification and the clue is in the name - English. To suggest that it is not related specifically to the place of origin and is more generic would be as arrogant as to suggest the words "the states" by default relates solely or primarily to the USA - other countries have states apart from the USA.

Moreover there is no such language as "British".

It's very complimentary that the USA and others has adopted the English language (even if they cannot quite use if correctly) but to suggest that it is not related to England just demonstrates ignorance of both History and Geography (the United Kingdom is not the same as Britain or Great Britain).

Mozilla should do more research!

it's really too bad that we can only choose beetween "save the password for this website" or "not now", while for some website, we really never want to save the password, typically for website like paypal...

Most webpages have the coding for the small square icon in the bookmark tool bar. Some do not. How do I add an icon for a webpage that does not have an icon assigned?

It saves space to have icons rather than the page description.
