We have an Ubuntu computer that opens Firefox in Kiosk mode automatically when the computer boots.

This computer is connected to a TV and is used as an informational dashboard. No user interaction is required, so no keyboard or mouse is connected.

Every so often, Firefox updates (among other updates) and the computer reboots overnight. When booting after a Firefox update, it shows a "thank you for loving firefox" message instead of the specified URL. The easiest fix is to hold the power button and manually reboot when this happens since there is no keyboard and it's quicker than logging in via SSH.

Is there a way to prevent this message from showing after updating? We want to keep the automatic updater enabled to keep it up to date, but this is not desirable behavior.

Version 105 did not install and get my accounts and passwords from the previous version? This is not a good update! And your help does not HELP!

Why did the Ubuntu update delete all of Firefox (I will also ask on Ubuntu forum)?

I'm Using ubuntu 18.04 my bluetooth audio stopped working to my S8 earbuds. They are connected OK, but no sound. Works on Chromium and Firefox on Windows, so it's not the earbuds.

Something has probably changed in the config file, but I don't know where to look.

I am running Unix Ubuntu 22.04 with Firefox 104.0.01 (64 bit). My Canon LBP 6230DW works fine in my word processor and in Chrome, but it does not show up in the Printer destination field when I am in Firefox. The only print option is to "Save as PDF." How do I get the Canon to be a print destination in Firefox?

I first realized an issue with downloading PDFs through the Firefox viewer - I cannot. The download button does nothing, there is no prompt, no popup, and no file downloaded. I have also tried to print to pdf, that also seems to fail.

Today I realized I also cannot attach any files to an email through Gmail in Firefox, which is now leading me to believe that the software is unable to interface with my files at all.

Things I've tried include: - Turning off popup blocker - Refreshing Firefox in the ->Help->More Troubleshooting Information Menu - Starting Firefox in safe mode - Reinstalling through snap

The only way I can currently download files is through wget, and the only way I can send attachments is by installing Google Chrome, which is kind of a last resort for me.

I am running Ubuntu 22.04, this is on Firefox 106.0, though it didn't work last update either.

Edit: I have been googling for answers but after posting this question a similar thread popped up, the solution is to install the following packages:

xdg-desktop-portal xdg-desktop-portal-gtk

I'm using Firefox 102 on Ubuntu Mate 20.04 (the vanilla one from apt), but I think I've experienced the same with a couple of previous versions too ...

So, I've sat in one Espresso House in Denmark; tried to connect to their public Wi-Fi with Firefox in private mode, captive portal went fine, and I was on the Internet. Apparently I had gotten a danish IP address there, since google.com thereafter was in danish.

Now, I sit in a different Espresso House, also in Denmark; however, here, captive portal does not work; in the sense that:

As shown on first screenshot, first I get "You must log in to this network before you can access the Internet.", and I get a "Open network login page" button.

I click on the "Open network login page" button, I can see browser wants to load http://detectportal.firefox.com/canonical.html - but in the end, I do not get the Espresso House login page, but instead I get a redirect to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/captive-portal , where the "You must log in to this network before you can access the Internet." still stands, but there is no more "Open network login page" button (as shown on the second screenshot)

If I restart the browser in this shop, I think I get the exactly same process - Espresso House wi-fi login page never gets shown, only the https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/captive-portal ...

Strangely, at this point, I do get access to the internet through a browser - but google.com is then in swedish, which I guess means, that there is some sort of a VPN of that shop's wi-fi to Sweden. On the other hand, I don't get internet elsewhere on my computer - for instance, if I want to do `sudo apt update` from the command line, I get errors like "Clearsigned file isn't valid, got 'NOSPLIT' (does the network require authentication?)" - which is what I otherwise get in (the first mentioned) Espresso House, before I've connected to wi-fi via captive portal (once I connect to wi-fi via captive portal there, `sudo apt update` or any other network access from command line is fine).

(Note: my android phone in the same shop, does indeed show Espresso House Wi-Fi login prompt upon Wi-Fi connection, and I can login there fine).

Why does this happen, and how can I force Firefox to show me the actual captive portal so I can login to Wi-Fi - instead of redirecting me to https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/captive-portal ?

I have recently lost trust in Windows and went back to Ubuntu. Work computer can probably boot back into Win11 if I try and it's on 22.04LTS. Home laptop was Win 10 but I'm not sure it is able to boot to that. Anyhow:

I had a great workflow with containers and handling a few different accounts and there are probably 100+ unique strong passwords saved in my firefox sync. Now I get to linux, get things set up ... and now I have to start over with everything. Most accounts, I'm totally OK to just "Forgot Password" because then it's a great chance to get a newer, longer, meaner passwd and review if I can turn on 2FA, etc. But there are sites that are slipping through the cracks; sites that are a little broken about recovery.

On an aside, I do have the windows filesystem and poked around Users/me/AppData/Roaming/blahblah/profile/files. There are json files with encrypted usernames and some sqlite DBs. Is there a mechanism for merging the "old" AppData into ubuntu's ~/snap/firefox/profile ?

Or is there a means to get user/pass out of those files? I'll see if I can get logged into the work computer tomorrow since I see there's an export option, which is a good backup plan if there isn't a way to import.

Whenever a website prompts for me to upload or download a file and I except Firefox crashes, quitting in its entirety. This still occurs in "Troubleshoot" mode so I assume it is not any of my extensions. Here is a crash report from when this occurred if it helps. Another odd observation I made is that I am able to upload a file if I use a "drag-and-drop" feature on a website.

I often use two firefox windows each with several tabs opened

Problem is when I quit in this state sometimes only one of those multiple windows gets opened on the next launch

To quit I do a `ctrl + q` or right click `Quit` from launcher bar

Is there a setting to tell firefox to always relaunch with the same set of windows ?

I use sync and this happens when using the same computer for the exit then relaunch of firefox

Ubuntu 22.04

I am running a fresh instaled Ubuntu 2022.04, so this is the first Firefox-from-snap.

I am a Jupyter user, and when launch the Jupyter-lab (which try read a file in ~/.local/... directory) I get the deny; I can launch it when connect to Jupyter server, which is an annoying behaviour.

I browse for help, so I change the "security.fileuri.strict_origin_policy" to false, but didn't help

I verify that Firefox let me navigate my personal folder, but deny access to hidden folders (name starting with dot). I test this behaviour by create a new directory in my personal folder (navigable) and then change the name by adding the initial dot (access denyed).

I guess this is an effect of security policies of Firefox, but how can I change this policy in a safe way?

Starting today, with firefox 102 (on Ubuntu 20.04), I cannot open a url using the address bar. If I enter a url and then hit Enter, it brings up my selected search engine looking for that url, not opening the url itself. This has not happened before today. Is there a way to use the address bar only for opening addresses, and use the search bar for searching?

I can't get Firefox to use some custom cursors. Firefox is only recognizing the cursors that came installed with Ubuntu. Any of the cursors I installed will default to DMZ-White, but Firefox is using those cursors that came installed with Ubuntu. I tried defining the default cursor in /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme but did nothing as well. Also I tried with the cursor in /usr/share/icons and in /home/name/.icons and firefox cannot get in any of those.

I don't know if it's something wrong with my cursors or it's some inner thing with Firefox, any one has a guess? Incompatibility or something missing from the cursor?

I've only been having it issue since upgrading to Ubuntu 22.04. Firefox (103.0.2) will lock up (not the pc, it will keep working in other apps). It doesn't seem to matter about the number of tabs open, or what sites I'm accessing. It 'seems' random, and closing Firefox and reopening it seems to work for a short while before locking up again. I'm not a tech guru so I don't know exactly what to include here, like logs, or other info. The other issue associated with this issue is, when it locks, and I restart, Firefox does not start the first time I click on it. I have to click on it again and when I do, it will start, but usually (not every time) I get an error message along with the open home page of Firefox. I have to press the (not sure what to call it) windows key and switch to the error to close it. In the past, I've always had a great experience with Firefox, but this is starting to really be annoying! Especially when I have four of five tabs open and have to do a restart. Firefox doesn't seem to realize it's had a problem so the option to re-open tabs with a restart doesn't happen. So I have to use history, which can be troublesome and confusing, to get back to the pages I was reading. I only open multiple tabs most often when I'm researching an issue and want to 'order' the tabs so I read the ones that look like they apply the most to my research topic. So it really is an annoying issue. So much so, that I have been looking to switch browsers. But I really do not like the large commercial entities not to name names, but I may have to suck it up and install the Big G's browser, the Big C! )^: (note: if you respond requesting additional information, please be kind and offer how to obtain the info! I'm using Ubuntu Mate 22.04, Firefox 106.0.1 SNAP install. I setted to TRUE the option browser.download.start_downloads_in_tmp_dir , when I open a document from a web page like .docx or .xlsx I can see the window that ask me how to manage the file, if I choice to open it (not download), Firefox present the option "Open with System Handler (default)" but nothing happens. Please remember that if I download the file and double click it, Libreoffice is called and opens the file. If I select "Choose other" Firefox opens an empty list of apps. In settings I can't change the option "System default". How can I fix this?

New dual boot Linux configuration and all new install. Ubuntu 22.04 (all updates). Firefox 105.0.1. I am trying to create a new profile on a shared (ext4) partition that can be accessed from either boot side. I have tried over a dozen different configurations. I can create profiles anywhere on my local disk (also ext4). I cannot create a profile on the shared partition. Error msg: "Profile couldn’t be created. Probably the chosen folder isn’t writable." I have checked/verified permissions/directories/access/etc, checked for typos, tried using links or direct access. I tried copying a profile I created on the local disk onto the shared partition and just point to that. Notably when I choose the directory from the partition in the FF profile tool, FF switches the path to the /run/user/(...) tmpfs instead of using the actual directory as chosen. I verified access via this path as well. I even tried modifying the profiles.ini file to the "normal" location. Sorry for the long explanation. I have been configuring new Linux installs since the 90's. I'm stuck. Help??

Ever since the update to Firefox 102 and continuing in 103, Netflix gives a F7701-1003 when attempting playback, naturally playback works fine(as it always does every time FF does this with each new release) in Chrome and Brave. All previous suggested work arounds do not resolve this issue.

Since no one answered this question the last 5 times people had to ask similar questions I will repeat this basic question.

Does Mozilla not test their updates prior to release?

Hi - I'm signed into firefox sync on two different computers, both running Ubuntu 20.04. I can tell that they're connected to the same account because I can see the other computer in the list for "Send tab to device".

However, the bookmarks aren't syncing - one computer has the full set, the other (newly set up) computer still has the default bookmarks.

When I check `about:sync-log`, I see these lines:

That is, it seems to think that bookmark syncing is disabled - however, I have bookmark syncing enabled, as you can see in the attached screenshot.
