Opening PDFs automatically with Firefox and, without any changes I might make, saving them with the download function in Firefox, actually ruins the functionality and data entry function of that file. Specifically this happens with PDF files downloaded from the (not all that amusing) PDFs from the FINCEN, (US Financial Crimes Enforcement Network). I do not see why and how Firefox thinks it is allowed to change files that are simply downloaded and saved on Firefox.

In other words, it seems that Firefox strips away certain "permissions" and/or "functions" (like built-in lookup, menu or choice boxes). This means that the file so downloaded via Firefox can no longer be used to properly fill in data, or to look up and choose data items within the file. (I see many times that ANYTHING having to do with "permissions" tends to be an intractable and unsolvable problem for software makers & experts, so, if you do not know right away how to solve the problem, it will probably take you several years to figure this out.)

The PDF in question is created by a government agency. If you have ever dealt with a government agency, then you know that they act sort of like Adobe or Microsoft: "They don't respond, or they do respond & say they do not understand, and if they understand, they are either unwilling or unable to fix the problem."

If there is a switch or option within Firefox, which lets me tell Firefox "Save this file exactly like it is received, nothing added or removed!", that would be nice. I just have not found such an option yet, and it would be nice if it might get provided someday.

I will share my browser data, but I am sort of convinced that a detailed question like mine will not be addressed within that shared data.

The attached shows the cursor only from today and free hand highlight from a March 2026 when working properly. The free hand highlight today does not highlight, only the cursor highlight is functioning.

PDFs seem to keep turning black when a pdf appears on Firefox and Downloads with Firefox. The preview of pages is still intact. Turning off hardware acceleration does not solve the issue. How do I fix this problem?

I'm having trouble downloading product specification PDFs in Firefox from Formers Paper, a thermal rolls manufacturer. Some files open correctly, while others fail to download or display properly.

Has anyone experienced similar issues when accessing documents from a thermal rolls manufacturer website? Are there any Firefox settings or troubleshooting steps I should check for PDF downloads and file handling?

I was in the process adding text for over an hour when the entire document flipped. It is a PDF I am editing on FireFox. I have done this many times on different documents without this problem.

I have noted other inconsistent behaviors--am I the only one?

I create and save files in OneDrive. When I open a file, it always opens in the Microsoft Edge Browser which is a problem for the old guy, me. I prefer that they open only in the documents folder as their specific kind of document; Word, PDF, and Excel spreadsheet files so that I can then move my files into various folders and sub-files. Hopefully, someone can figure out what I have said and help me. • I'm uncertain if the topic I chose accurately describes my question.

For about a week now, I have been unable to read any pdf document I download. The body of the document is completely black (that is black, not blank). When I go to save the document, it is saved as a black (unreadable) document. I have had to switch to using another browser in order to be able to download/save a readable pdf document. How can I fix this issue?

Hello: recently I decided to ditch expensive PDF Converter apps for my desktop pc as overspecified for my purposes. To date, I haven't found any guidance to use the Firefox Easy PDF Converter - usually required to convert Lotus Word Pro or MS Word text documents to pdf format. As a second request, can it be used to reverse convert e.g. pdf to docx etc. I have already added it to my Firefox app, but can't go any further. Thank you for helping. Geoff Pickerell (UK)

Recently, whenever I open saved (or sometimes new web) documents in Firefox, a very large pop-up on the lower right side of my screen appears with a cartoon of a pencil scanning a document. Below the cartoon it states "Now you can highlight your PDFs! With our new highlighter tool, you can read and edit PDFs in one place." The pop-up blocks half the view of the document and cannot be minimized or closed. It also prevents accessing (it hides) the "print" option if I want to print/save the page. I have WINDOWS 11 and have looked online for solutions to this problem which always produces the same suggestion: "go to 'settings', click 'privacy & security', check 'block pop-ups', click 'OK'", all of which I've done. I now limit my use of Firefox to streaming videos via amazon, and use Chrome or Edge for anything else I need to do, but I assume Firefox would not be happy to know of the aggravation their browser is causing, forcing users to go elsewhere (or am I the only person having this problem). I use Xero accounting software and used to be able to view pdf within the software up until the recent update. Now it just sits with a spinning wheel. I've found that if I change the setting within Firefox to open the pdf within Firefox the issue is fixed in Xero. But then all pdf's open in Firefox instead of the usual Adobe. This breaks other workflows within my organisation as I need to email the pdf straight away when I download it, so my Windows was set with Adobe as the default for opening pdf's but now Firefox has taken that over. There does not appear to be any way to email the pdf from Firefox other than to save it and then find the file and email it from there which is very time consuming. I don't know what has changed in Firefox, but please can you fix it. I see I'm not the only person with this issue.

Certain PDFs only allow page view when opened in Firefox. When opened with other PDF viewing software or browsers (Microsoft Edge, Adobe Acrobat, Google Chrome), these PDFs allow continuous scrolling. I don't have this issue for most PDFs.

I've tried fixing the problem by editing the PDF settings in Adobe Acrobat but to no avail. When combining a PDF that works fine with a PDF that doesn't allow continuous scrolling in Firefox, it seems to take on the settings of not allowing continuous scrolling.

I've recently set up on a new desktop running windows 11.

My previous setup had windows 10, but the same version of Firefox.

In the past, when building web pages in php, I'd always used Firefox to preview the html elements of pages offline. I've not used a testing server on Windows as I'd rather test the PHP elements on the live server. Firefox was just for testing the html / css design elements, which it worked very well for.

Now, on my new computer and windows 11, when I try to open a php page offline with Firefox I get a window asking me what to do with the file - "open with" or "save file". When I choose "open with" and choose Firefox, Firefox opens up another tab with the address of the file in the address bar, but no content below, and then another window pops up asking me what I want to do with the file. This goes on indeffinately if I keep clicking "open with". There's no issue with the files I'm trying to open as I can open the exact same files on my win 10 computer with the same Firefox version and the display just fine. What's going on?
