If I right click on a webpage the context menu opens. If I then click outside the context menu it doesn't close, but stays open. If I move focus to the search bar (not the address bar), starts typing and select an item from the drop down list, the drop down list stay open. If I start typing in the address bar and select an item from the drop down lost, the drop down list stay open. If I click the Bookmark menu icon on the toolbar the drop down list with bookmarks open, but if I click outside the list, it doesn't close but stay open. The same thing happens with the program menu in Firefox. Even when I start a different program, the menus and drop down lists from Firefox stays open on top of the other program. The problem also happens when I run Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode.

Any ideas?

Dear Community,

I would like to download this extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/pl/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/ I would like to know how it works. If I will install this extension my firefox will be check hashsum for the files of this extension automatically? Or maybe public key of the organization/company who created Adblock Plus extension? How it is work? Can you tell me? I hope that people from Mozilla now read this and can answer for my question. This is very important for me.

Next question is to Adblock Plus extension. I can read this information: "This add-on is not actively monitored for security by Mozilla. Make sure you trust it before installing" so my question is why Mozilla don't recommended this extension? This extension now use 6,678,297 people so this is huge count. It is possible that this extension is not safe and these people now use malicious software? Why on dedicated website for this extension I can't see company name? Why this company is not verified by Mozilla? So my sugestion for people from Mozilla is to change this and check this extension or maybe add some information on website for this extension.

So I should install this extension? My friend use this on Google Chrome and he recommended me this software but I don't know if this is exatcly the same version. Maybe Chrome has verified Adblock Plus software and this is safe but Mozilla didn't verified this and this can be dangerous software because this can be not exactly the same version?

Next question is to adblocker. Why Mozilla can't make their own software to block all annoying ads and due to fight with malware? Example Opera browser have own buil-in adblocker. Why firefox can't do this? Maybe people from Mozilla should do this? This can be helpful because if this can be happen I will be not install any 3rd party software for firefox anymore and I will be safe. Maybe I can send somehow this suggestion to people from Firefox?

I hope that you can help me.

Yours faithfully, Peter

Since the latest update, Firefox shows a white space at the top of all web pages, covering almost half the screen. This includes customisation screens for addons, themes, and also the troubleshooting page. The only page that seems unaffected is Firefox's own settings.

The issue seems linked to the toolbar somehow, as entering fullscreen mode temporarily hides the issue. However, as soon as the cursor moves up far enough to show the tabs and search bar, the white space also reappears. Hiding either the menubar, the bookmarks toolbar, or both did not fix the issue.

Restarting Firefox in troubleshooting mode seemed to help, but I have not managed to find the root cause. These are the things I tried, first one by one and then all at once, with no result:

  • Deactivating addons
  • Switching to system default theme
  • Deleting userChrome.css
  • Clicking "Refresh Firefox..." on the troubleshooting page

Dear Mozilla Community,

I would like to know when Firefox will be dropping Windows 7 support? I readed on some websites that Google Chrome will be dropped support for Windows 7 in 15 January 2022 year so I would like to know if there are any plans by Mozilla Developers to drop support for Windows 7?

I don't have computers with Windows 7 but my friends asked me about this because they know that I am active community member of Mozilla but I can't answer because I don't know so this is why I asked you today about this.

Yours faithfully, Piotr

Could anyone have a idea how to limit Firefox from opening so many sub-processess, with (wanting or not) are mostly causing that my system runs out of memory and stop beeing responsible to any of my inputs, with forces me to restart the system (similar thing is done by an DOS attack)

So I am not sure what this is about. I know the search bar and URL are combined no matter what at this point, but the issue is that if I type any letter; it suggests a website that I have never visited, bookmarked, searched, etc.

Please see the screen shot I have attached. In this example, I typed the letter "y", although it can be done with any other letter, and an unwarranted site will pre-populate. I am assuming this is Mozilla is promoting/sponsoring certain websites when you start typing any letter, which I don't want a part of.

It can't be DuckDuckGo causing this (the search engine of this user's choice), because changing the Firefox settings from URL to Search bar only doesn't make this issue stop. Not sure what I can do to prevent unsolicited sites from showing up when I am typing into the URL field.

To replicate, you can start typing any letter into the URL/Search bar field and the first result directly underneath is a "random" website suggestion.

This is why I assume it is coming from Mozilla (not DuckDuckGo), because before the recent updates, there was never this issue. It is great that you guys want to promote your favorite sites, but from the user's end: it is forced upon us; which is not supposed to be Firefox-like.

I don't read the blogs and articles about Mozilla's vision, so perhaps this is a new feature and it works as expected; however, there should be an opt-out so that users can just search for a website name without a favored suggestion appearing directly below.

Optionally (form is even hidden requiring a click to see) a person can be a user (rare). My username and password are auto filled in ALWAYS now for the person (even when the form is not showing). Can I just change the field names (username, password) in the jsp and have Firefox NOT fill mine in automagically? Or if not, how do I tell the browser that these are normal fields - leave them alone PLEASE (do not auto-fill)?

I have noticed that when I manually log in into accounts.google.com with no prior cookies in the browser and no association with a google account prior to that, it automatically logs me into sites like youtube.com, even with the strictest cookie policies (tried with Strict, custom+cross-site and custom+third-party). I do not particularly mind privacy wise since I'll log into them with the same account anyways, but as far as I understood, there should be absolutely no way this should happen. Cookies should be isolated by domain, I have uBlock Origin installed which prevents cookie sharing between domains by setting some CNAME records in subdomains (Uncloak canonical names), and afaik Firefox does not automatically read the google account cookies and share them around - if it did, that would be even more serious. So what is happening here and how can I change that? This seems to be a serious issue that I'm honestly not comfortable with out of principle since I chose the strictest settings.

Hi everyone!

When I browse the web with Firefox, it happens that the system becomes completely unresponsive. Some web pages seems to make Firefox using a lot of RAM and write a lot on the hard drive. I cannot actually say much more, because it not even possible to login in a console. The system is too slow and the console login times out... Firefox (or Web Content) writes wildly on the hard drive.

I used the Firefox provided by my Linux distribution (Linux Mint), but also the one downloaded from mozilla.org. The problem seems to be less frequent for the second, but it happend nevertheless.

The point is that this problem with Firefox happens sometimes, for example, when I forget the browser open on somehow demanding webpage (like in newspapers where there are a lot of media, graphics, and so on).

A point is also that I cannot replicate this "bug". If now I browsed the same pages that made the mess, nothing would probably happen.

I thought it had to do with the swap, but the system hanged both when the swap space was enabled and when it was disabled.

I saved a copy of the profile (and the cache) after the last crash, if they could be useful. The last time I had actually to force the shutdown of the computer, because there was no way to regain control over it.

Any ideas?

Thank you for your answers!

Hello,

after an update up to Firefox 89.0 (64bit) on my elementaryOS 5.1.7 (based on Ubuntu 18.04) I've got a grey-colored rectangle in the upper part of my window that overlays all elements of websites (cf. attached screenshot), however I still could pass via hyperlinks if there are any under the rectangle. It is very light grey in light mode and dark grey in dark mode.

I've tried following steps according to possible solutions found in the Internet : - launch Firefox in safe mode (the rectangle disappears) - make sure the default theme is used - turn on/off the hardware acceleration - update or disable and delete all add-ons and plug-ins (rectangle still present in normal mode) - delete and reinstall Firefox with wiping all its files on the local machine (including /home/user/.mozilla and /etc/firefox* folders) - delete again and install the flatpak version

Nothing of the above helps except of the safe mode. As I have tried already to delete add-ons and plug-ins, what else can I disable to try to solve the issue in normal mode ?

I would appreciate your help as this is the only browser that I (want to) use on a daily basis. Thanks in advance!
