For years now Mozilla has been forcing users to add a userChrome file to get their tabs BELOW the address bar. They have also been changing the rules for doing it every so often so users have to go back and modify their userChrome.css files.

WHY doesn't the Mozilla development team wake up and make it easier for users to maintain the look and feel of their UI to match their preferences. It shouldn't require a special .css file to make this happen.

PLEASE add settings in the about:config (or better yet in the tools/options) to allow users to move the tabs below the address bar line.

ARE YOU LISTENING Mozilla??

Thanks to terrible, productivity-sucking changes in the basic functions of the FF browser, I have started using other browsers. First - FF updates far too frequently - almost daily. No option to block update notifications. Never know if it's something trivial, an important security fix, or a major interface change. The 'what's new' page is always incomplete. 2nd - FF downloads software surreptiously through the sneaky "normandy" back door and inserts feature changes irregardlessly. Doesn't matter if you explicitly selected NO to enrolling in studies. Users can't get a straight answer on how to disable Normandy. Named after the Allied stealth invasion of Europe, it does the same thing to our computers. 3rd- FF caters to fringe techie desires with an onslaught of unwanted or unsuable additions that bloats the software, uses up CPU, or inserts intrusive attention-seeking diversions. I am forced to spend too much time after each update to investigate how to shut off unwanted surprises as well as unannounced alterations to my option settings. For example, if I press the mute button on my keyboard a very large media window pops up and takes over a sizeable chunk of my computer screen. It cannot be resized. It has no close button. Took hours to find out how to disable this. 4th-FF developers seem to expect users to have the newest computer equipment, huge display screens, and lot's of extra memory. If not, too bad. 5th - the recent puzzling, arrogant changes to the basic print function is evidence of that mindset. FF developers say they aren't going to let users revert to the normal "classic" small foot-print pulldown menu on the left side of the screen to preview, set up headers, etc. Too bad if the open window is too narrow to view this new intrusive, real estate consuming right hand display. Too bad that you can no longer simply seamlessly interact and accomplish the task. Too bad that the FF developers think they know better than you that you should change the way you work. 6th Reader view is an obscure feature. I do not want to be forced to use it. I do my best to strip out or ignore the overwhelming number of pictographs competing for my attention, 7th - I can no longer see URLs in the address bar. You've truncated them. I am forced to cut and paste them into a text editor to see them in their entirety. 8th - Firefox hangs video streaming sites like peacocktv.com. Windows Taskmanager shows that FF forces CPU and hard drive usage to 100%. 9th -There is no mechanism to escape, break, or interrupt FF's failed video stream. How sad that Microsoft's obnoxious Edge browser is better at video streaming. It uses far less system resources on the same video streaming site. AND doesn't hang the OS. It's likely FF's new unwanted capability to launch multiple picture in pictures - which I don't use - hogs resources. 10th- How about beta testing using 'normal' non-super techie /gamer users? 11th -FF disabled user Feedback. I stopped updating Firefox. Not trustworthy.

So, I just noticed today that my bookmarks section is acting oddly. Normally it brings up the option for where to send a bookmark. But randomly, I've seen it suddenly switch to just defaulting to the last bookmark location. For example, I want to bookmark something in a bookmark folder I have specific for things related to writing, but when I go to bookmark the site, the first thing that comes up is the location I created for youtube videos. What exactly is going on here, and how do I fix that?

The page needs to be downsized and when you click on a link it may open it but it may be behind it but I am never able to get to it. I think possibly the last update something must have messed up. I used to be able to load it but not anymore. I have to use another browser to work with this web site. Other web sites seem to be ok. Thanks for any info.

Hi,

Somehow while searching for this solution on the web. I got my answer in a foreign Firefox. The answers posted to this solution are in English but all the other buttons are according to Goggle translate are in Lithuanian. How can I see this whole page in English?

I was able to answer a couple of people but if I search in my USA profile, none my posted questions or answers include the ones from the Lithuanian Firefox. Just curious if I could see them here somehow.

Just recently Firefox started to display a "Loading..." message in the middle of every page I go to in Breitbart.com (doesn't happen in any other website).

It appears about 2 seconds AFTER the page loads or press F5. The background goes dark suggesting it's modal. It lasts for about 1 second and then goes away and everything appears normal.

I've been told this is a Cloudflare anti-DDoS CDN protocol issue, but I'm not so sure of that.

I've started up in Clean Mode and get the same behavior.

TIA

I have an ssh tunnel that I am using to access an AWS ElasticSearch instance running in AWS, so that I can see Kibana in my browser. The tunnel is necessary because access is only allowed through a specific jump/gateway host that we have setup (this is very standard).

I used to be able to access this just fine with http://localhost:9200/_plugin/kibana But then ElasticSearch updated something to require that the 'HOST' header contain the original host, ie: search-blahblahblahblah.us-east-1.es.amazonaws.com

Ok, no matter, I'll just add an entry to my hosts file: 127.0.0.1 search-blahblahblahblah.us-east-1.es.amazonaws.com

Now, I can curl just fine, and using Chrome works just fine too: http://search-blahblahblahblah.us-east-1.es.amazonaws.com:9200/_plugin/kibana

But every time I try to use Firefox, it replaces the http with https, which obviously doesn't work because the tunnel is to port 80.

Yes, I realize that *.amazonaws.com is owned by Amazon and they have an SSL cert.

I have read a similar ticket, here: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1209387 The acceptable answer in that ticket seemed to be to use a different domain for local development, which shouldn't be too hard to do, but in my case this is not a usable answer.

I should be able to override Firefox and tell it not to change a URL that I have put into it, at least for specific sites.

# Ubuntu garbage data increases exponentially
## Intro and context

Hello. I am a power user that works in software and web development. I have been using Firefox on and on for most my life, but full time as my main browser since late 2018. One thing I love Firefox for is its lightness on memory compared to that of Google Chrome, and also its open web standards, open source, privacy, ethical owners, and customizations. I have been using Windows 10 up until July 9th 2020 before I switched to my first main Linux desktop. I have always kept my eye on CPU and RAM usage, as high CPU drains battery and running out of RAM results in a system crash. I actively keep many tabs open (less than 100 but more than 60) I ensure that they are light. I mostly have GitHub tabs open, but I keep a few other things open as well, mostly Wikipedia/wiktionary and duckduckgo tabs, a pcloud (file service) tab, but sometimes a youtube tab or two (rarely a reddit tab)

## Issue

I have been noting that garbage collection is getting exponentially worse over time. When I got my laptop, I was able to keep 2-3 fully packed profiles open at all times, and never having to close Firefox until shutdown (after about 12-16 hours uptime) I rely heavily on Firefox profiles for organization. It has been getting exponentially worse. Starting in late 2020, I had to reduce the max number of open profiles to 2, and in 2021. In early January, I had to start closing the profiles once a day to free up 2-3+ GiB of RAM (swap doesn't change much, that is the garbage data that isn't being cleared, it normally ends up at 800 MiB to 1.7 GiB by the end of the day) and now (as of January 22nd 2021) I have to close Firefox 2-3 times a day to prevent my system from getting overloaded, as Firefox eats through 1-2 gigabytes of RAM per hour, even when idle. I have noticed several processes titled `web content` that use 200-600 MiB each (there is usually 2-7 of them) I am wondering what I can do for Firefox to prevent high RAM usage. For reference, here is my main profile in idle mode:

Mozilla is refusing to let me upload images right now, so I will link them

https://github.com/seanpm2001/seanpm2001/blob/master/FFTechSupport/Jan22/MProfile1_Idle_1.22.2021.png

Here is my usual 2nd profile in idle mode:

https://github.com/seanpm2001/seanpm2001/blob/master/FFTechSupport/Jan22/MProfile2_Idle_1.22.2021.png

Here is the RAM and SWAP usage before my 2nd refresh today (uptime: 8 hours 46 minutes)

https://github.com/seanpm2001/seanpm2001/blob/master/FFTechSupport/Jan22/FF_GF_Open_1.22.2021.png

And here it is with Firefox and Nautilus closed (I forgot about nautilus before getting the first 2 pics, it uses a lot of memory depending on its usage):

https://github.com/seanpm2001/seanpm2001/blob/master/FFTechSupport/Jan22/FF_GF_Closed_1.22.2021.png

I have lately suspected that GitHub may have gotten heavier, or is sending too much data via AJAX methods, but I am not entirely sure.

    1. System specs

Device: `Dell XPS 13 9XXX`

Operating system: `Ubuntu 20.04 (Focal Fossa)`

Linux Kernel version: `5.4.0-48-generic`

Processor type: `Intel Core i5 10th generation`

Processor specs: `Intel® Core™ i5-1035G1 CPU @ 1.00GHz × 8`

Processor mode: `x64`

Desktop environment: `GNOME 3.36.1`

Windowing system: `X Desktop environment 11`

Memory: `7.4 GiB (8 GB)`

SWAP file: `2.0 GiB`

Firefox version: `84.0.1` - I haven't updated in a while due to fear of memory increase and instability

Number of Firefox profiles: `61` - no new profiles created since December 26th 2020

I am wondering what I should do about this. I work with hundreds of projects, so I can't close too many tabs, as it becomes hard to access and manage. I intend to close 16 tabs in the next month, as I am freeing up some projects.

Firefox won't stay downloaded to my computer. I am having to download it multiple times, especially if my computer has updates.

On a separate note, when it does actually stay on my computer over night, it never keeps me signed in to my Firefox account. I have to log in to it daily to have my bookmarks and passwords.

Also, it never remembers the theme I have picked for it. I would love some advice on how to fix this.

I've read through a ton of articles, and I can't seem to find a fix.
