I often want to keep a tab open and go back to the search. It used to be that clicking on a search result opened a new tab,but now it replaces the search with that link so that I have to back out of it to get to the search and use history to see where I have been. This is a dealbreaker for me. There does not appear to be any way of restoring this behavior, even in about:config. Help

I want to turn off search suggestions in the URL bar. Yes, they are turned off in Options. Please see the attached screenshot. I don't want anything to happen when I start typing an address in the bar. I've done this before on an older install, but I can't seem to figure out where in the about:config it is. Thanks.

Setting up a new LG laptop. Downloaded Flash and Shockwave Flash but they don't appear in my add-ons. Looked on the add-on pages but cannot find any that activate either. I have it on another laptop and it works fine (Shockwave Flash 32.0.r0). Even searched for that exact add-on but it returns no such program. The icon for Flash (on the URL line) doesn't appear on any page. Obviously, I can't play on-line games or watch any content unless Flash is available. FireFox is updated to the latest version as is Win10. Using WebRoot and Malwarebytes. Any ideas as to why this is?

I recently updated my browser to mitigate the latest scary security issues, and now my tab bar is in the wrong location again. I tried 3 or 4 different solutions from around the web, including this one that seems somewhat official: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/forum-response-tabs-below-url-bar but I am still unable to get the tabs to show up below the address bar and bookmark toolbar. When I use the Browser Toolbox to examine the layout, it seems that the TabsToolbar object is now a child of a container that includes that and the Menu Bar. Adjusting the CSS allows me to change the order of those two, but I can't get the tabs to move below the bookmarks toolbar, where they belong. Can anyone point me to an article that will help me move the tabs to the right location?

When using the "Checkout with PayPal" button on websites the PayPal popup window appears however it's impossible to progress to the checkout.

When OneTouch is activated, the text 'Securely logging you in...' appears overlayed with the spinning wheel in the popup window. This continues indefinitely.

When this is not activated the window doesn't progress further after entering the email as prompted by the window and pressing Next.

It's possible to login to PayPal in a separate tab however that doesn't influence the popup behaviour.

Looking at the console in the popup there are a few 'Unable to find window by ref window.js:148:14' errors.

In the 'host' window where the popup was called from the console displays the 'Failed to execute ‘postMessage’ on ‘DOMWindow’: The target origin provided (‘https://www.paypal.com’) does not match the recipient window’s origin (‘https://www.paypal.com’).' error.

I believe this could be a recent issue because I was able to make several payments last month with all settings the same. I have a separate user.js file that I keep my settings in (I can send it over if required). These settings have not been changed since the file has been created.

The following actions have been tried and didn't improve the situation:

- refreshing the current profile

- disabling all addins

- adding paypal.com into exclusions for 'Block pop-up windows' and Enhanced Tracking Protection

- cleaning History and cookies

I then launched Firefox with a separate 'clean' profile and was able to make the payment successfully. Sure enough, importing my user.js file broke PayPal. I went through the settings commenting them out by groups.

The following setting was causing the issue:

user_pref("privacy.firstparty.isolate", true);

Setting it to 'false' made the PayPal popup window work correctly again.

Thought that this would be helpful for anyone experiencing similar issues. Cheers.

Hello

My Firefox is acting quite quirky, as every now and then when I search something via my adress bar it uses Yahoo instead of Google. I have checked my extensions and my search tools and Yahoo never shows up there. One example which happened just now was this: I searched "Carnaval meers 2020" in my adress bar and when I pressed enter, the following URL popped up in it, sending me to a Yahoo search request: https://nl.search.yahoo.com/yhs/search?hspart=dcola&hsimp=yhs-001&type=gsp_dventures_00_00_ag25764¶m1=1¶m2=cat%3Dweb%26sesid%3D8cdb1ceb996de63fe58d1805e1846a64%26ip%3D92.110.185.189%26b%3DFirefox%26bv%3D72.0%26os%3DWindows-10%26os_ver%3D10.0%26pa%3Dgencoll12%26sid%3D4175dbbf066e92669c742075ebdf60b6%26abid%3D21412%26abg%3D25764%26a%3Dgsp_dventures_00_00_ag25764%26sdk_ver%3D%26cd%3D%26cr%3D%26f%3D%26uref%3D&p=carnaval%20meers%202020

Any help would be much appreciated.

I need to bring up a url with http and not https. However, FireFox keeps changing the url from thing I need (http://) to the thing I do not need (https://).

To try stopping this action I verified the browser has absolutely nothing stored in cache or browser data.

Safe mode in FireFox made no difference.

I also turned off the Apache software on the server hosting the site. When that did not alleviate the problem, I disconnected my computer from the internet. FireFox continues to change the url, adding the s in https.

When I have my computer plugged into an external monitor, I want new browser windows to open on the external monitor, but they always open on the computer's monitor. I have gone through the entire process at https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems (clearing cache etc., trying safe mode, creating a new profile, refreshing Firefox, reinstalling Firefox) and the problem persists. This happens if I manually select "New Tab," "New Window," or "New Private Window" from the File menu with no existing windows open. It also happens if I use the key commands for any of these menu items. It happens if I use the menu bar on the computer's monitor or the menu bar on the external monitor. Opening a window and dragging it from the computer's monitor to the external monitor does not change anything. I've also tried using Divvy (https://mizage.com/divvy/) to move the browser window between windows with a key command, but after moving it this way nothing changes—new windows continue to open on the computer's monitor. How do I set which monitor Firefox will use for displaying new windows and/or get it to remember my preference?

System details:

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Late 2016) macOS Catalina, Version 10.15.2 Firefox 72.0.2 LG HDR 4K external monitor (Model 27UK850) CalDigit TS3 Plus Thunderbolt dock Computer connected to the dock with Thunderbolt 3 LG external monitor connected to the dock with DisplayPort 1.2

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1253828 does not seem to work because the caret (») is not visible in Firefox 72.0.2 (64-bit) that is on my machine. This is most annoying. Firefox and T'Bird are the most difficult software to migrate to new computers.

I need the export as a CVS. The other approaches either don't allow copy and paste or they are JSON and I have no clue how rto use that.

The other angle: logins.json (passwords) and key4.db (58+) for Passwords saved in the Password Manager I don't see a way to get that into a spreadsheet.

It is particularly annoying because there is an import function but no export function. I have over 300 web site user names and passwords. Hours and hours of work to just copy one at a time.

A change was introduced in Firefox 73.0 that makes it display background images contained in web pages, even if a Windows High Contrast color theme is in use and even if the "Override the colors specified by the page" option in Firefox is set to "Always." Is there a way to override this behavior and make Firefox suppress background images the way it did in version 72? As a low-vision user, I find that the new behavior interferes a lot with the readability of some web pages, and I haven't come across a page yet where the new behavior actually helps me. Note that I don't want to suppress ALL images, only the background images, the way it works in version 72. For now, I have reverted to version 72 of Firefox, but I don't like that as a permanent solution, since it would mean giving up on all future upgrades to Firefox.

I've moved my Firefox profile to a custom location (in My Documents). When I run a backup, I want to exclude files that can easily be regenerated when the profile is restored on another system. So far, my exclusion list is as follows:

D:\Documents\My Documents\Firefox\OfflineCache\*

D:\Documents\My Documents\Firefox\cache2\*

D:\Documents\My Documents\Firefox\minidumps\*

D:\Documents\My Documents\Firefox\safebrowsing\*

D:\Documents\My Documents\Firefox\storage\temporary\*

D:\Documents\My Documents\Firefox\parent.lock

Is this a safe list?

Are there additional folders that can safely be excluded? Keeping logins active upon restore is preferable (so keeping cookies, etc. is preferable).

Edit: The list above is safe, and when I tested the restore it works fine. The accepted answer lists some more folders that can be excluded, which I haven't yet tested but looking through them they look correct.

I was surprised to be told by Firefox that https://123.hp.com had a potential security risk. That site is linked to from HP webpage https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01796879.

How does Firefox determine that a webpage has a security risk?

Some googling indicates that it may be security certificates. Since the organization is reputable, does that diminish the risk of following the link anyway?
