Please explain in simple terms (I am not an IT wizz) how I can stop the continual popups in Firefox 128 and Thunderbird 78 on a Windows 11 OS saying “Update Available” with a Download button very easily activated by mistake.

Each time I click Dismiss, a new popup appears either immediately or very soon. The popup blocks a significant area of the screen and will not move.

I already have Update Settings on “Check for updates but let you choose to install them”. There is no option to “Do not check for updates” on these versions of Firefox and Thunderbird. I already have Windows 11 Notification Settings on “Do not disturb” and all Firefox notifications to Off.

I have found the Mozilla Support article “Customising Firefox using Group Policy” at  https://mzl.la/3bLnw2J but I do not understand it and the device I am using is not part of a group installation setup. 

There is a Step by Step guide “How to stop Firefox update notifications” on Youtube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nD-oXxrCCRs . This is clear to follow if I pause it frequently to absorb each step carefully. Is this safe for me to try given that I am very inexperienced in using the command line and accessing registry etc?

The Thunderbird popups have only recently started up and I would value advice on how to stop these safely too. I need this version of Thunderbird at present for particular reasons related to gmail so it is important I do not accidentally activate a download on that.

I'm new to firefox and recently tried their chat bot side bar feature. My only problem is once I've added the sidebar/show side bar tool to the tool bar it only displays the chat bot after I turn the setting on and off again. When I close the browser and reopen it, the sidebar button becomes a bookmark button instead. I'm just wondering if there's a solution to this where it only opens the chat bot? Or am i stuck with opening and closing the chat bot feature so it shows up when I click the menu bar shortcut?

A single click in the address bar highlight the entire URL. How to prevent such behavior? Also many web sites try to manage selection and cursor position of input fields. Is there setting to completely prevent such behavior everywhere?

reason: It is really easy and fast to triple click or press Ctrl+A on the bar/field if it really necessary to highlight. But usually I just want to correct mistake in the cursor position and automatic highlighting just preventing me from doing what I want.

I lost my bookmarks on your update. Also my short cut list and the settings on the main page. I can not understand your directions which just take me in circles. Please provide some simple instructions on how to recover my bookmarks and short cuts.

For some reason I can't seem to disable the "List all tabs" button that appears on the top right corner of Firefox anymore.

I have the about:config setting "browser.tabs.tabmanager.enabled" set to "false", but the button still shows up all the time and it is pretty distracting from my usually clean Firefox interface.

Does anyone have a solution to permanently remove that button?

Can several homepages, each one individually assigned to Mail, Finances, News, Video be saved and re-awoken upon startup as individual desktops or home pages ? I would like not to have to repopulate windows upon startup.

Wireless cursor just gone after this last update. Changed the battery and all the usual tap, blow on it, no luck. Purchased a new mouse from amazon and no improvement. I found an article to fix this but cannot find what they refer to or understand the names used. I am just there saying, the what? go were?

Firefox version 131 introduced a new list all tabs button to the toolbar which cannot be removed like the previous one by adjustment in about:config.

The system will not accept another userchrome file in the Profile folder - trying to do this it will only accept a replacement.

Does anyone know how to get rid of BOTH of these annoying buttons?

Firefox went through a pretty major change recently. i could see I had to change my toolbar customisation back to how I wanted it. However, I have about half a dozen add-ons controlled via icons on the browser, but all the icons are gone and I see no way to get them back.

Until the recent Firefox update I could switch these add-ons on or off whenever I wanted via icons on the menu toolbar. I now see no way to get these controls back.

Upon reboot, all my previously open windows are all clustered in one window. They need only to be each individually dragged to an unoccupied "mini-desktop" at the top of my screen. This is far preferable to having to repopulate several additional interest-specific windows after each reboot.

I need to save my downloads in various different folders - sometimes its a research paper, or music score, or an image and all this could go into folders for different projects. For this reason I always have "ask where to save file" enabled in the settings.

However, with that enabled, Firefox proposes some silly random folder instead of the last one used. Sometimes I have to save maybe a dozen pdfs in the same folder and Firefox proposes some rubbish random folder the first time, I change to the one I need, I save a couple of files into that folder and suddenly Firefox changes again the folder it proposes. This is so incredibly annoying. Why would they do that? But more importantly is there a way to make it just come up with the latest folder always instead? Why is this not something that can be changed directly where the "Ask where to save files" option is in the settings? Is there a good place to tell Firefox developers who utterly useless and time-wasting and annoying that behavior is?

hello. i have a problem with times displayed by firefox on my linux box. for some reason firefox seems to think that i'm in or near reykjavik in iceland, and i can't find out why.

the following ONLY applies to firefox on my linux box, but not to other browsers on the same machine or to firefox on android: - when i connect to my home assistant server and go into my personal settings, under time zone it offers me to options: server time zone (europe/london) which is correct or "local" time zone (atlantic/reykjavik) which is WRONG. i'm in the london timezone, so why does firefox think i'm in iceland? - in youtube, firefox tells me that live streams and premieres start an hour earlier than they actually do. like today there is a live stream that starts at 12:35 but firefox tells me it starts at 11:35. no bueno! so why does firefox do this? what setting got screwed up, and how can i fix it?

like i said above, only firefox on my linux box does this, in other browsers and on other platforms it does not happen. that tells me it is a firefox issue.

I have an account on a website I visit near-daily. Despite having both cookies for this website persist and the password supposedly saved, the last three times I've visited the website I've been logged out and the password is nowhere to be found. Having to switch between my password manager and browser is annoying beyond description.

(That's actually not true. I have quite a few choice descriptors for this program, but have chosen to omit them)

When opening a new tab, can you set Firefox not to put the cursor into the address bar?

FYI I work all day on a relatively large screen, and I really do not want to set my eye focuses on the left top corner where address bar is shown. For this reason, I am using the tree style vertical tabs, and when I search, I use the center search box instead of address bar search.

All shortcuts I had for months below the search bar are gone from the home page of ff. Nothing suggested in the past I try ever fixed it. They just showed back up one day long ago. Until today I refreshed FF did not work. When I tried to browse it will not let me access the desktop to attach a photo this is only when using FF.Thankyou

On Win11.64, I noticed some weeks ago Firefox refusing to automatically open sites. I’ve also sites telling me that JavaScript is disabled. But javascript.enabled = true, in settings. I’ve renamed the folder to Firefox.old, and installed a fresh copy—though then ported bookmarks, etc. Same issues. I’ve cleared the cache. Same issues. Firefox in Private Window mode works fine. Any kindly help would be appreciated. Thanks
