Before the most recent update (version 98.0), my default setting for pdf files is to open in Firefox and a pdf website I use prompted a download window when I clicked 'Download'. It has 'popupDownload=true' in the link which I believe did the trick.

After this update, clicking the same button just opens the pdf file instead of showing the download window, ignoring the command in the link.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance.

All of a sudden yesterday I could no longer open files it will only let me save them. I know that an update happened so I'm assuming some box got unchecked but I don't know how to fix it. I want the option back to save files or open files.

In the recent update (98.0) FF ceased showing the Open/Download file form trying to save a file anywhere on disk. In about:preferences, in Applications section, there's archive (zip, rar) mime type format missing.

Hello, in the latest Firefox version at this time, files are simply downloaded automatically. Is there any way to turn this off. In a way this is a security risk. Or maybe it is just a bug. I can't change anything under the general settings either. The steps from the existing problem solution have brought nothing. Does anyone have any ideas?

Adobe Digital Editions software is used by Archive.org, Open Library, Kobo store, and many other entities to deliver DRM-ed material in the form of .ascm files all named the same "URLLink.acsm" In the past, the download dialog box asked if you wanted to open the file in Adobe Digital Editions or save it to a location.

After the latest update today March 11, Firefox does not allow you to open the files in Digital Editions. It goes directly to "Save to" download location. This is not how the .acsm files are supposed to be handles. They all have the same name and are supposed to be opened into Adobe Digital Editions directly.

In Firefox Settings there is a box for - "Applications

Choose how Firefox handles the files you download from the web or the applications you use while browsing."

However, .acsm files do not appear and typing ".acsm" or the filetype name "Adobe Content Server Message" yields nothing inside this box so I cannot get Firefox to open these files with Adobe Digital Editions.

This is beyond annoying. These files are meant to be opened straight by Adobe Digital Editions. I tested it on Chrome and Chrome lets you open them fine.

Either the "Applications Choose how Firefox handles the files you download from the web or the applications you use while browsing." box functionality needs to be fixed to recognize .acsm filetypes or the previous default functionality of allowing me to choose "Open with Adobe Digital Editions" or "Save to" for this filetype needs to be restored.

If there is some other way to get this functionality back in the most current Firefox version, please advise.

Hi my issue is with the last update, now when I download images the preview tap of the images I download open up automatically and show me the download file, but this wasn't how it work before, I download images and only if I wanted to see the tap I clicked on that, but now it shows no matter if I wanted or not, don't see like a major issue until you have a lot of download images because the tap increase size every time I download anything, and force me to clic on anything in the window to hide it, but is ANNOYING to keep doing this specially when I already have like 5 images or files or more download, I have to clean up so the preview tap not be that noticeable, and this never had happen before the newest update....how can I make it to the preview tap doesn't show or at least automatically disappear as it used to do before. if this is a bug, please fix it, is really annoying now to download content.

Hey guys, I have a new issue with Firefox browser. Every time i am saving a picture from anyplace, after saving it on my pc, the list were Firefox displays the downloads always pops out...every time for every picture..and that is soooo frustrating. How can i turn that off?

Hello! I updated the my browser to v 98.0 (64-bit) on my Manjaro Linux with 5.10.102-1-MANJARO kernel.

The browser works fine. However, there is one thing which is completely breaking my workflow is the new way Firefox handles its PDF downloads.

Previously: - if I used to click on PDF links such as (http://www.africau.edu/images/default/sample.pdf) see google-chrome img they opened in browser and if I downloaded the PDF it would ask me where to store the file. - Downloading PDF on WhatsApp, University website, LinkedIn like apps, it would prompt the "Always Ask" prompt

After the update the applications settings have changed

Now: It is either "always ask" (even in case of links like: http://www.africau.edu/images/default/sample.pdf which is annoying or if I change the setting to "Open in Firefox" on downloading material, when clicked without CTRL+Click (my previous workflow I simply used to click to download material) opens the downloaded PDF in-place so the loaded University website or whatsapp app is closed.

I am really annoyed and I've cycled through all the application settings and none of them seem to work like before.

How do I fix this?

I want to open online PDFs in Acrobat. I've modified the setting is in Firefox to "Always ask," yet when I click on a PDF it opens as it should AND Firefox automatically downloads the file to the Downloads folder even though that destination is greyed out in settings and the radial button for "Always Ask" is selected. How can I block this activity in either Firefox or in the registry.

NOTE: ALL OF THE SETTINGS IN FIREFOX SAY "ALWAYS ASK." This a software bug in Firefox, not a user switch setting. This activity began today (March 11, 2022) after months of normal, expected activity. I've reset Firefox and I've done a complete uninstall and clean install and this still happens.

Until the recent update to v98, if/when I downloaded a kdbx file (from Google Drive, if that matters) - there was an association to Keypass to immediately open the file using Keypass. Since the update, this no longer happens - now, I can either select to automatically download the file ..or prompt where I want to download the file.

I'm unable to make additions to the Applications file types, and the only documented means of making that addition also does not happen for .kdbx files. I haven't tried other file types...

Oddly, my .nzb association was maintained, but the functionality now downloads the .nzb files to my specified download location rather than to temp files so I didn't have to bother with cleaning up.

I just noticed, this AM, that when I'm viewing PDF files using Adobe DC it is now automatically downloading the files, where as, before I could just view them. I've not changed any settings-see attached screen shot. So I don't know what changed. I don't know if this is a FF issue and/or a Adobe issue or what. I now have to go into File explorer and delete all the downloaded files. I would appreciate anyone's comments. Thanks

Now with this new update, pdf files always open in browser. In the previous version, even when configured in the settings, the file was downloaded from some websites when this was the case. In other words, the browser is not respecting the rule defined by the website itself of downloading the file and not opening it within the browser. Now, the files always opens in-browser, it's very annoying. It looks like it's a bug. Please fix it.

I used to have prompt every time I would download something... I would like it back, how can I do this? I've already tried to ask Firefox to always ask me where I would like to open my download but when it does I removes the name of my PDF and acts like they are textedit files and now when I download JPGS it wont even give me an option to choose to have Firefox ask me for the file type "JPG". How can I get everything back to the way it used to be before the update version 98.0?

when downloading torrent it used to ask open or save the torrent file, now it automatically downloads, it doesn't ask open or download anymore. How to get back that option again? Help anyone

Hello. I am extremely annoyed with Mozilla after this update and am DESPERATE for a fix.

I am a college student. I have to open several notes, lectures, syllabi, sample assignments, etc. a day. Obviously, I can't download every single one of these files to my computer. I'd run out of space. The SOLE REASON why I picked Firefox as my browser was because of the dialogue box that appeared whenever I went to download something, giving me the option to simply open a file without saving it.

They made it so that dialog box wasn't the default. Okay, fine, annoying. But all I have to do is go into settings and change it to "Always ask," right? Wrong. EVERY SINGLE FILE GETS DOWNLOADED TO MY COMPUTER NOW. Every PDF and MS Word document is sent straight to my download folder.

Is there ANY way I can open up files (specifically PDF and MS Word files) without saving them to my computer? I remember these files would be saved to a "temporary" file area, how can I re enable that again? If not, I will be switching to another browser that offers this option.

After the automatic update to version 98, I'm finding that Firefox insists on putting a copy of my downloaded files into the Download file even after I turned that off in the General tab of Settings. Also found it odd that I was unable to take a screenshot of these settings, but had to use Printscreen to do so!

It used to be that when I clicked a MPEG Audio file link I would get a prompt that asked if I wanted to save or open. When I chose open the media would play in my media player from the temp folder and then get deleted later on automatically. Now however when I select open the file gets placed in my downloads folder and then plays. I have to go manually delete these files if I don't want them on my hard drive. I've already gone into Troubleshooting Information, Profile Folder, to delete the handlers.json file to hopefully get it to reset but it still doesn't send opened files to the temp folder. Any other ideas?

Hi, I have not changed any settings but since a few days ago, any PDF links or downloads are shown on the same tab instead of a new tab. Is there any way to go back to opening in new tabs?

To clarify, for example, I receive a pdf file from web whatsapp, and I open it. Previously, a new tab is created showing the pdf file I received. However, now, the pdf file is shown on the tab where web whatsapp was instead of opening a new tab. I have to click go back one page to navigate back web whatsapp.
