First, system info: I'm on Mac OS 10.5.8 I was using Firefox 3 until yesterday when I updated to 9. Had no apparent problems with bookmarks after the update but I had not closed the session; it was only after starting up this morning that all my bookmark folders are missing from the Bookmarks Menu.

I've been through all the "lost bookmarks" sections of Firefox - no answers there to my specific problem. Most of them focus on bookmarks being completely missing - but in my case it's only the Folders that are missing.

Here are at least some of the pages I've looked at and been through all the suggestions that were relevant: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Lost%20Bookmarks http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks#Bookmarks_missing_after_restarting https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/common-questions-after-upgrading-firefox-36 https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/latest-firefox-issues

There was a momentary power-down yesterday, but the folders were still there when the power came back on, so that's not it.

There was one anomaly with the way my bookmarks WERE. That is, when I selected Bookmarks from the top navigation bar, go down the drop-down past Bookmarks Toolbar, instead of all my folders being displayed there, I'd have to go to Bookmarks Menu and then to a side panel of the Menu which showed a folder saying All Bookmarks and from there I'd have to go to another side panel that opened off that to access the list of all my folders and run down to select one. This strange functionality came after some previous update, never could fix that and got no help with it. So I just put up with having more mouse work to get to my sites.

This is a serious problem for me - I am in training on SEO, internet marketing, Wordpress, etc plus running another business. EVERYTHING I rely upon for my work was meticulously organized into those folders, which now seem to be gone.

Are there any seriously technical people in Firefox/Mozilla who can go deeper than the stuff suggested on their websites?

I have bookmarked a lot of sites recently and its time to organize my bookmarks. I used to be able to click the bookmarks tab at the top of the Firefox window and select "organize bookmarks" - that gave me a list of all the bookmarks and bookmark folders and I could move the new bookmarks into existing folders, create new folders, and leave some one-of-a-kind bookmarks not in folders. Now it only shows a list of folders, plus an icon called "Unsorted Bookmarks" which I can't figure out how to open. How do I open it?

(This issue has been ongoing for several versions now. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, and tried safe mode.)

The right click menu, within the menu bar drop down menus, disappears as soon as I move the mouse. Making it impossible to select anything from it.

For example: I click "Bookmarks" in the menu bar and get a drop down window of all my bookmarks. I then mouse over a bookmark and right click to get the drop down menu that will let me "Open", "Open in new Window", "Open in new Tab", etc... As soon as I move the mouse, this menu disappears. I cannot mouse over it to make a selection.

If I don't move the mouse I can use the arrow keys to make a selection and then hit enter.

Years ago, a Lifehacker article gave me exactly what I needed: a quick and simple way to resize the various Firefox windows I need open at my office to make them precisely the size and position I need them. — http://lifehacker.com/292901/resize-firefox-with-a-bookmarklet

Unfortunately, upgrading to Firefox 7 seems to prevent these bookmarklets from working. What do I need to do to get them up and running again? It might sound unusual, but this is a critical issue for me. I've downgraded to 6.0.2 until I find a solution that works.

Something very annoying and very surprising has occurred: over 3 months worth of browsing history has disappeared. Kind of. I'll start from the beginning. At about 10 o'clock Monday evening, I finished my day's worth of browsing and went to bed. Right before I closed Firefox, however, I checked my history to see how much I'd done that day. There was a lot, more than average for me; same thing with Sunday. So I leave the computer for the day, knowing that even though my history was steadily being deleted as I viewed more pages, as it was set to, it was all safe and there to be backed up when necessary. However, upon logging in at around 4 o'clock the next day (Tuesday) I noticed something peculiar: my location bar wasn't showing anything when I typed things in. Apart from the homepages for Google, Facebook, Youtube, etc., it would not take anything else. I typed in letters, words, and links, and nothing showed up. I pulled up my history, and saw that everything seemed to be in order; "December" was still available, as was January and this month. It was all there as far as I could see. I went away for about 4 hours as my dad came in to fix the faltering video card. Upon returning at 8 o'clock, I tried the location bar again, and still nothing. This time when I checked my history, I actually clicked on the months. What I saw shocked me. Today's history was still complete, obviously, as I hadn't done much to begin with. Clicking on Yesterday, however, I was very surprised to discover that it wasn't complete; over half was missing. Worried, I clicked on Last 7 days; then This month; then January and December. Staring at the screen, I simply couldn't believe that pretty much all my history had just vanished, and I hadn't even done anything. But then I realized something. The history was NOT gone, just missing (if that makes any sense). I went back to the location bar, and tried more letters and words; this time, I got some results. Checking to see if they were in my history, I found they weren't. Surprised at this, I went further and looked up a news article I read back in December, which no longer showed up in the history or location bar. Looking back into the history, I found that, as I suspected, it registered in the history in December as well as now. Another thing that strikes me as weird, is that, in both December and January, the only bits of history that show up are pages that I've revisited today. Because of this, there is no feasible way that these sections could have existed unless I didn't visit these pages again. But if that's true, then how were those sections still there? Today, I tried more pages, and again they pop up in their proper places despite not appearing before in the history. Various websites also pop up with different letters now in the location bar, despite the fact that if they were deleted they shouldn't be able to. I have read up on the places.sqlite file, which in my case, according to my computer, was created in February 2007. If my suspicions are correct, if I'm able to open that, I should be able to recover the history... right? Sorry for rambling, but this is very important to me in that the lengthy history assisted me in daily browsing because I was able to get to videos and links just by typing in a letter or a word. I have not deleted anything yet, just in case anything can be recovered. Or, even if recovery is impossible, if it's possible to VIEW the history, i.e. in a list of websites, I would be able to take them out and save them elsewhere and backup/add back at my leisure. I hope someone can help.

Firefox Mac. I use MacScan to find and delete tracking cookies. But there are 5 cookies that are stored in Firefox somehow and reinstalled when Firefox is launched. I have Safari, Firefox, Chrome, and Opera browsers. I can open any of them except Firefox and these cookies are not found by MacScan. As soon as I launch Firefox, the hard drive is active longer than is necessary to launch a browser and these cookies appear.

They are reported as as tracking cookies and are named: rotator.adjugler.com www.burstnet.com data.coremetrics.com ad.wsod.com ad.wsod.com

If I delete them, they stay gone until I next launch Firefox.

Any ideas?

The problem is that I am not being given the option to bypass the warning, all I get is the Get me out of here option. I have tried clering all histories, caches, etc. I have even gone so far as to uninstall Firefox, remove all personal settings, and reinstall it, and it still hasn't solved the problem. I have tried all the suggestions posted here, and they have not helped/

When you hover over something from the Menu Bar, (File, Edit, etc.) the pull down menu appears but disappears immediately as you try to move the mouse to select something. You can't select anything. On the Menu Bar, if you hover over just the underscored letter the pull down stays.

On the bookmark toolbar the pull down just flashes and you can select nothing. No position of the mouse works. I use right click and open all in tabs frequently, and now that capability has disappeared.

I'm using Firefox 3.6.3 and am experiencing a problem with the bookmarks toolbar (the bar directly below the address bar, not the bookmarks menu you get when you click on the "Display your bookmarks"-button). In the toolbar, I have added several bookmarks and when I right-click on those, the right-click menu appears, I can make a selection with my mouse and then left-click on the action I want to perform (e.g., Open, Open in a New Window, Open in a New Tab, et cetera).

However, in my bookmarks toolbar, I also have a folder with several subfolders and with bookmarks in those. When I left-click on the folder, I can navigate through the subfolders. I can also right-click on a bookmark in a subfolder, but when I then move my mouse, the right-click menu immediately disappears before I even have a chance to left-click on the action I want to perform.
