I downloaded firefox 49.0.2 due to some programs i have to run not working on the updated version. (changing laptops, i downloaded on another laptop 6-12 months ago without the issue) unable to add bookmarks, ran through all the troubleshooting ideas & none seemed to work. tried everything i could think of but nothing seems to work, uninstalling & reinstalling, restarting firefox, restarting comp, running in safe mode to rule out add ons etc
Does anyone have any suggestions as its rather annoying without bookmarks?
Thanks

This comes up primarily because sometimes web pages nowadays do everything with JavaScript. Therefore lynx and its relatives can do nothing meaningful. It would be nice to be able to grab the content in batch from the command line, e.g., to check for updates from a cron job.
One example of such a page is the one for a musician I like: http://www.anaismitchell.com. Looking at the source shows only JS code, as far as my eyes can find. Firefox renders it just fine interactively, and if I do "save as" -> "text files", the result is perfectly decent. My goal is to do simply that from the command line.
A more technical example is the ISO country code search page:
https://www.iso.org/obp/ui/#search
Pressing the search button there (with the empty string) brings up the country codes and other info, "save as" -> "text files" works fine, but view source and lynx can do nothing.
Help? Thanks in advance ...

Hello and thank you for your time. I've looked all around for an answer to my question but found nothing related to my problem. I've also had assistance in the past with this problem and temporarily fixed the problem but not for long at all. When i try and go to a specific website that I've been to before and have seen the captcha box appear, there's nothing there or it says recaptcha status in black bold letters. Previously i got an recommendation to clear cache and cookies of the website, update java and turn the browser into safe mode and restart which temporarily worked until i closed the browser and then the problem persisted even after doing it all over again? Please help!?

XP repair OK, most things running alright. Firefox and the avast anti-virus are crashing.
The dump says exceptionillegal instruction. What does that mean? Something wrong with my CPU ? Firefox running an instruction not supported?
It crashes at startup, but not every time. Currently using onboard video (ATI Radeon 3000 graphics) HW acceleration off.
Please advise here's the ID of some of the crashes

Hi there,
This issue reports to a desktop computer with 8 CPUs and 24 Gb of RAM, which pretty much puts aside any resource constraints. Ever since Firefox was updated to version 49 the browsing experience has become increasingly difficult with a relevant lag on pretty much every task: . opening a new tab . loading/reloading a web page . scrolling down a web page . entering text (takes almost 1 second for a character to appear) . deleting text . using menus (e.g. takes about 1 second for the context menu highlight to move up/down to the next item) . great reduction in frame rate when playing videos (actually, I no longer play video on Firefox 49)
I have tried various things to stop the lagging: . restart Firefox . disable/uninstall extensions (now down to just 4) . disable/uninstall plugins (now down to just 3) . update plugins
But the lagging prevails.
I use pretty much the same web pages as I did with previous Firefox versions, but only with version 49 am I experience this lagging.
Thank you.

I've updated several times using the automatic update system, but the "update ready to install" window kept appearing. I've even deleted the firefox.app file, then manually downloaded the latest version and installed it. Still, the Software Update window pops up every time I start Firefox. Anyone know how to stop this behavior?

I've been using Firefox for years...since early 2005 and it has been a dream. But recently it has started to crash and the Plugin container regularly uses 50% of my memory and this has increased to over 95% causing the computer to freeze altogether. Even trying to open task manager to close Firefox has on one occasion taken 20 minutes. This seems to have only recently started to happen since I "upgraded" to Firefox ver 49.0.2 I have tried installing earlier versions, but keep getting annoying popups to upgrade, so I've reinstalled 49.0.2. I know earlier versions may have security issues, but anything has to be preferable to the Plugin container taking over my computer. It still happens now, even thought I have disabled all my plugins/add-ons listed below I have an Acer laptop with 4Gb memory and running W 8.1 Help in resolving this would be appreciated Eddie
I've twice gotten a banner that says, "Want to try something new in Firefox?" and has a button labeled "get it now," and another button for "more info."
Is this legit, or is it malware? It happened once a day or two ago, and then again today. (I took a screenshot, but it is not uploading for some reason.)

Hi. Been having an issue with Firefox this last week (though it's happened before, just not to this extent) in that's it's being incredibly slow and moves at the pace of a snail. To give some examples, when I try type (like right now) there's a delay for the words to show up instead of popping up as I type. Another is the browser seems to freeze up for a couple seconds when I try and scroll up or down, before doing at an quick and uneven pace.
I'm uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox (reinserting my profile after doing so), disable all themes, plugins and add-ons, restarted Firefox in safe mode, and none of these have made a positive difference (in some cases it actually made it worse).
Any way of fixing this? I've been using Firefox for years now and I don't relish the idea of having to transition to another browser if hte problem could just be solved on its own.

After using firefox for a while (usually longer than an hour consecutively) I will occasionally scroll on a webpage, only to have the scroll icon which appears not disappear after I have stopped scrolling. Interestingly, the scroll bars do not disappear even upon closing firefox; currently, the only way I have found to get rid of them is to restart my pc. I have attached some screenshots to better convey this issue, and if there is anything else I can do or provide let me know!

I downloaded Firefox 50 via the built in update. When I hit restart to install the update, I get a window saying that Firefox wants to install a "new helper tool" and that I need to enter an admin password to complete the update. I can't find anything about this "helper tool" in the release notes or through a google search. I was wondering just what is it? Running OSX 10.11.16. Thanks.
