I have an old Win 7 laptop with very limited specs. I decided to use this version of FF (52.8.1) because I've used it before with no problems on an even older laptop with Win XP. However, the experience is not pleasant to say the least.

I'm attaching here some screenshots so we can see exactly what's going on. First image: 2 tabs, Yahoo mail, calendar = 1 GB of memory, 59% of CPU. Second image: 3 tabs, Yahoo mail, calendar, FB = 1.5 GB of memory, 55% of CPU. Third image: 1 tab, blank, after closing the other tabs = 725 MB of memory, 52% of CPU(!)

At this stage, the very latest version of Chrome is actually less resource-heavy than this version of FF.

I went ahead and did an experiment: exact same 6 tabs in Regular Mode vs. Safe Mode with add-ons disabled. Fourth image: regular mode, 700 MB of memory. Fifth image: safe mode, 420 MB of memory. So, with all add-ons disabled, I save about 300 MB of memory, which is rather substantial (as a percentage) but not dramatic.

I have "hardware acceleration" already disabled. Zero themes. My add-ons are very basic, an ad blocker, a translator, two pdf savers, a couple of video downloaders, and a cash back shopping button.

Btw, I tried the "minimize memory usage" and it freed up only 150 MB, so almost useless.

I realize this is a recurring issue with FF and that many people report usage over 4-5 GB of memory. But you can see I don't have that much RAM, plus I thought this older version would be "efficient" with Win 7.

Thank you for any suggestions!

At every firefox new updates, firefox insists on restoring extensions that I have disabled/uninstalled because they are completely useless to me and I don't want to use. Enforced Useless Extensions: Amazon.com, Amazon.com.au, Bing, Google, Twitter, OpenH264

There is also a common secret: After a new firefox update, I must dig to empty the "features folder" (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\browser\features) which keeps also Useless "Features" like: Enforced Useless Features: doh-rollout@mozilla.org.xpi, formautofill@mozilla.org.xpi, screenshots@mozilla.org.xpi, webcompat@mozilla.org.xpi, webcompat-reporter@mozilla.org.xpi

So, Why does Firefox insist so much on reinstalling unnecessary, useless disabled/uninstalled extensions and "features"?

Like any privacy-conscious person, I do not want websites gaining access to my clipboard. I thought I had taken the necessary precautions, by setting the following preferences:

dom.event.clipboardevents.enabled => FALSE

clipboard.plainTextOnly => TRUE

Today, however, while writing in an online text box, I hit Ctrl+V and was horrified to see a very personal image inserted into the text box! (The image just happened to be in the clipboard.)

What is going on here? How could this possibly happen? Can sites still access my clipboard?

Firefox Monitor notified me of a data breach of an account that was deleted automatically due to inactivity by LiveJournal.com eight years ago. How come my e-mail still got in the data breach that supposedly happened three years ago in 2017 and has just been discovered? It says the breach included e-mails and passwords. I don't even remember what password I used back then and the account is deleted, so I can't log in anymore. Is there anything I should be concerned about? How is this even possible in the first place?

After a full review of all Mozilla's addon troubleshooting pages, the addons I use everyday either don't appear upon my use of a mouse right click or don't work when clicking on them in the browser's header bar, and I haven't downloaded the new Firefox version for GREAT fear of AGAIN loosing ALL of my addons for the second time. And not being able to use my lost addons have crippled my production, because their replacement have not been nearly as good.

To remove an addon was easy, but reinstalling it won't fully engage even when the page popped up and gave me the option to install it. It's just spinning.

I imagine we're not talking about a sudden incompatability without an upgrade. Your help is welcome.

Hello,

Firefox 76.0.1 is causing me problems...

For example if I call a PHP program to log out, I use the JavaScript command:

function Logout() {

 self.location = "Root.php?LogOff=Y"

}

No problem there, but when I want to log back in I use:

<form name='detail' method='Post' onsubmit='Root.php'> <input type='text' name='UserId' class='Full' style='border: 0;'> <input type='Password' name='Password' class='Full'>

(The class Full, just sets the width to 100% as this is in a table)

The the JavaScript is simply:

function LogIn() {

 document.detail.submit();

}

Seems simple enough, but the Root.PHP receives:

 LogOff -> Y
 UserId -> <name>
 Password -> <password>

Not what I was expecting!

The only other thing of note is that I have started using local.storage to save information, and this too passes information from previous calls.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Richard Gamester
