I have a working Firefox Sync account with 3 computers synced. That is, I already have working 3 computers with a working Sync account across them. I want to add a 4th computer, but I need my recovery key. I don't have it. The instructions say, To get a copy of my Recovery Key, I need to "At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then click options, then Sync, then Manage Account." I can't find a Firefox button with any choice of Options. There is an Options choice under Tools, but under Sync, but there is no Manage Account button. I can't start over and re-register because Firefox says my email account already has an account (I agree). Please, where is this Manage Account button?

I use sync on my Dektop at work/home and on a laptop. It worked well for years but recently it stop working. I tried everything like reconnecting all acounts, even deleted the old one and started new but nothing helped. In about:sync-log I found that there are many sync errors but I cant read them. I put the newest error message in the pastebin: *Deleted because log contains personal info*

just tried to (reluctantly) set up sync. signed in and immediately got hit with a demand to download firefox to my phone to complete setup. that won't work

tried to setup sync and immediately was hit with a demand to download firefox to mobile to complete setup. sorry firefox doesn't work on my phone ( at least until you fix it so it doesn't take forever to load anything) too bloated even without the bloat. can't get past that screen to try to sync anything. If I can't and actually won't install firefox on the phone because it's too slow how do I setup sync? If you are wondering it's an android and the last release of android 7. I deleted the account since I can't do anything with it that is useful. BTW I don't care for pocket and the other default goodies added to the toolbar so as I said having a firefox account is pretty useless. Can I setup SYNC without my mobile as part of the requirements? Have 2 tablets, a desktop, and a laptop and that is all the devices I'm interested in syncing. My phone is not one of them.

Firefox has begun opening very [very!] slowly, as well as crashing and freezing during use. This is happening on all of my three machines, two running Win 7 and one Win 8. I have tried refreshing and disabling hardware acceleration, but to no avail. Now it seems to freeze on opening and takes a minute or two even to become responsive, if at all. When I look at Task Manager during a freeze I see the Firefox process is using 35-50% of memory [i have 8GB, 12GB and 16GB] and up to 50% of processsor resources. All has been fine until the last couple of weeks. As an adjunct, in the last month I have noticed an almost permanent error message on the status bar - "Sync encountered an error while synchronising: Unknown error. Sync will automatically retry this action."

macos sierra 10.12.6 firefox 61.0 (probem has been ongoing for about 1.5 months though) about 3000 bookmarks

Almost every session, I come to do some task with bookmarks, usually just move a bookmark, and I find the bookmark won't move, I can't make any edits to Library e.g.: I can't save any open tabs as bookmarks

I found after investiagion that firefox has got stuck syncing. so: if I look at my sync wheel, its blue and will never stop spinning. If I close my browser, the firefox process doesn't quit and will hang indefinitely until Force Quit. When I restart, firefox has lost all browsing history and bookmarks changes i performed in the last session. Bear in mind here that, because I couldn't make any changes in Library and to get to the state where I can again means force quitting, that this means as soon as the problem hits, i've lost a way to retrieve any open tabs - they all have to be torn down and be lost! So its a serious problem. Its happening several times a day.

It isn't happening every time firefox sync though - firefox can sync without getting stuck, it seems to happen WHEN i'm doing work with bookmarks (not necessarily in Library, can be though the dropdowns)

I've been looking at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1397163 but the guy there had more than 10 times the number of boomarks i do, and all in one folder. I do not have many bookmarks all in one folder, so I cannot use the fix there to help me

I've already tried exporting and then importing my bookmarks. I've tried deactiviating all my plugins. I've also totally refreshed my profile. Since refreshing my profile has recreated everything including my places.sql, I'm not sure what else locally I can do to troubleshoot?

FF 72.0.1 for Windows. See if I can explain this problem. I migrated Chrome bookmarks to a new profile on my desktop. I cleaned up the migration bookmarks and saved to an html file for a backup. I also created a new profile on my laptop that I did attempt to sync with the desktop which was when I first noticed issues with the synced bookmarks/folders.

RIght now I have sync turned off on both machines and am concentrating only on the desktop. I deleted all the bookmarkbackups directory files and deleted places.sqlite and imported the saved html file to get the desktop where I want it. However, when I turn sync on (with sync turned off on the laptop) it adds folders and bookmarks, some of which were NOT there in the Chrome migration and some duplicates that I had created on the laptop. Deleting the WEAVE directory makes no difference. I don't know where this information is coming from, whether cache or ff backups, but I want to have a clean set of bookmarks, that I can sync to a clean laptop.

Can someone please tell me where this previously synced (some not) information is coming from so I can delete and start from scratch.

Hmm, somehow I am unable to sign into Sync over the past few days or perhaps a week even, idk. At first I got an "Email just returned" error upon trying to sign in, and now I end up with an "Unexpected error". Entering about:sync-log doesn't show any entries from the present day relating to the error.

And to make sure that this has nothing to do with the plugins I have on my installation, I tried signing in on a clean Firefox config to no avail.

Maybe i have so many bookmarks but not understand why behind a proxy your software have all these problem simple to sync my bookmarks add ons passwords ect....

I've been using Firefox to store logins and passwords and manage bookmarks on one computer for 10 years+. I always just opened a browser, clicked "tools" then went to my saved passwords. Today I got a new computer and wanted to sync with my Firefox from the old computer. The old computer is asking for a Firefox password, which I don't have (I've tried everything I can think of but I set it 10 years ago). I searched for help online and tried setting a "Master Password." Now, despite entering the EXACT password I selected, it is saying it's wrong and I'm locked out of all of my saved logins on the original computer as well.

I have a secondary email but nothing seems to generate a recovery email (yes, I am stupid and didn't enable recovery key and now I cannot do it because I don't have the password). Is there any way for me to get back into my saved logins? I am using the old computer to work from home and cannot complete any work now. The company sent me a brand new laptop, but all of my logins and passwords are on the old computer tha now wants a master password.

There is no "manage account" option for sync on any of my devices, and I can't set up any new sync devices. How do I fix this?

Since none of my devices have a "manage account" selection under Sync (or Sync set up), there's no way to get or reset my recovery key. I only see "Set up Firefox sync" and "Pair a device". Everything else leads to a dead end without access to a recovery key or being able to manage the account.

Well, my previous thread on this issue appears to have been deleted, and my ability to log in also until I reset my password - any explanation for this would be greatly appreciated.

However the basic problem remains as per the subject line.

The fundamental problem of responsiveness remains but the timeout crash has reduced in frequency since the last couple of upgrades.

Since the last crash I have been distracted by yet another firefox problem related to live bookmarks whereas Firefox, in it's wisdom, now seems to be changing the ID of the bookmarks thus breaking add-ins like brief that rely on the ID number being constant... sigh...

I just wonder if Mozilla is serious about Firefox anymore, for me they have made it almost a nightmare to use, every update seems to break something.

Where to go?

I was using firefox sync account wadahi@top-mails.net just fine. that email was deleted for non-use. No verification procedure was laid out anywhere in the agreement. Then firefox modified the agreement and now sends verification codes to that email, which I no longer have access to. I am able to login in my account using the login and password , however firefox now wont allow me to change the email to the new one to receive verification code. I need access to my bookmarks and saved passwords NOW! Firefox had no rights to unilaterally change the agreement without notice to the customer. Firefox had no right to impose the verification email without letting the customer make sure his email can still recieve verification codes. Firefox failed to provide customer support because it doesnt even have a technical support email or phone number like a registered business should have. I lost access to my bookmarks and saved passwords because of negligence and reckleness of Firefox in failing to notify the customer to change the email to make sure the email can receive incoming emails and is current. I have the access to my firefox sync account, however it wont let me login without the verification code which is being sent to a nonactive email, used many years ago.

Suggested resolution: if you are a smart and relatively educated techncial support, you would realize that the same ip address would indicate that I am who I am and I should be allowed to change the email. However, firefox provided no technciall support and DID NOT EVEN HAVE A CONTACT EMAIL, while making significant profits from the customers and yet fails to provide technical support.

I need access to my bookmarks NOW!

when I sync my desktop to my android phone, all bookmarks become disorganized and many are missing on both devices. I removed all bookmarks from both the desktop Mac and the Android and toggled sync. Same thing happens. I now have no bookmarks on the android (aOS 8, Oreo) and restored from a backup on the Mac (OSX sierra).

Hi all, I just noticed that there was an update to Firefox’s sync service and it seems that my old sync details no longer work so I need to move to the new system. Since I do so much of my work and I keep so much highly personal information in Firefox, I just wanted to know how I can check if this new Firefox sync service is safe. Is my personal information safe? Can my personal information be shared with others? Can the Mozilla people access my personal information? I didn’t want to use Firefox Sync until I was 100% certain that it was safe and nobody could access my personal information such as the Mozilla people or anyone else.

I have 2 computers that are both newly (and fully) formatted. Both are running win7 64bit with the latest firefox, and on the first one i have set up the entire Firefox with all the bookmarks and addons and settings.

When i log into sync on my 2nd computer it does sync the addons and the bookmarks - but none of the settings/preferences. I did make sure that the preferences are checked in the Sync settings, and i have tried the sync now button. I also tried logging out of sync and back into it, restarting my PC, resetting firefox to default and even deleting all firefox profiles and settings files. I have cookies allowed/enabled in case that is relevant, and firefox is updated to the latest version.

Can anyone tell me how do i make firefox sync the preferences? It is the most important part of the "sync" feature for me, and it is not working :(

Bookmarks painfully slow after 48.0.2 Firefox update

Everything was hunky dory until the awful v48 update. With no other changes to the system, bookmarks are now annoyingly slow to use. If I try to bookmark this page for example, FF has to think for 2-5 seconds before I can enter tags. After saving the bookmark it freezes for another 1-3 seconds before I can do anything else. This is an awful downgrade.

There were absolutely no other changes to my setup except for the update. I didn't change any preference, install an addon, or the like. In any case, I performed a safe mode test and this makes the pauses even worse.

What else can I try? Your FF knowledge would be greatly appreciated.
