Does Firefox "remember" any browser data from another Windows user account? I created a guest account for someone today and while I was browsing, I got redirected to a site called fy3 dot fit which had the fake captcha. I did not open the run box and did not paste any commands from it, so is the guest account compromised or do I need to nuke Windows and start again? I read on reddit that it's an infostealer but if Firefox does not remember the other user account's browser data, does that mean nothing would be stolen if I did run it?

I am satandalone user win 10 am administrator for my personal pc Firefox has been hacked and says it is managed by my organization. Norton nor bitdefender can get rid of the malware that has done this. Is there a patch or malware fixing bit of software that can clean this infection from my computer please. Chrome has the same problem so I have had to uninstall it an forget about it.

Googling the problem just comes up with all sorts of unintelligible to me tecky stuff Im not going near.

I see on the forums this is huge problem no one seems to have easy answer for.

Why does Firefox not have a version without this vulnerability for the millions of standalone personal users. Regards Mike Milletr

I keep getting annoying popups claiming to be from Mozilla Firefox. clicking on one takes me to a malicious website. Dismissing them only results in new ones opening. I am attaching a sample of a screen showing the popups on the right. I scanned for viruses and was told my computer is clean.

How can I stop this from happening?

I have no Firefox extensions, and have run Norton without finding any problems. There is no indication of its source. It has been on my system for more than a month. Thank you Colin O'Brien

Tonight I was roaming around my Firefox settings looking at something else, when I noticed this AI piece pre-checked. Why is FIREFOX, who is supposed to be for privacy and security, authorizing an update that automatically choose AI? Not cool Mozilla. Not Cool. Anyone else have this? and yes, I've already fixed it ;-)

I did not click to allow it through the firefall. The firefox I was using was connecting to the internet fine. (Despite the pop up saying it was blocked on both private and public networks.)

I can guess the video player app is being used in some kind of attack.

The link I clicked on. https://streamed.pk/watch/carolina-panthers-vs-cleveland-browns-2261156/admin/1

Btw I googled this and saw others complaining about it but basically no info.

This is one of the more annoying messages Firefox has recently added:

"Your browser is being managed by your organisation."

It is obviously wrong, because it is shown on a private Ubuntu 24.04 computer where I have myself installed Firefox from a tarball installation (Firefox version 142.0.1).

The about:policies page just shows: Homepage: URL "https://start.ubuntu-mate.org/"

  Locked	false
  StartPage	"homepage"

Why does Firefox give such obviously misleading information? All the other articles are not helpful at all either, some are talking about security software, some about malware.

This is an extremely user-unfriendly and confusing message: if security software is to blame, why does Firefox not tell what exactly is restricted? When malware changed something why does Firefox not tell what it changed? What even does the message actually imply, what is prevented what otherwise would work and why? What does the information shown on the about:policies page really tell me?

This is by the way shown when starting Firefox using an EMPTY directory for its profile (so making it use a brand new profile), running from a brand new installation directory extracted from a tar file. So what on earth makes it think it is "managed by my organization"?

There is no extension installed, no policies.json file in the newly created profile, nothing. It looks as if the firefox browser would just arrive with this weird setting/configuration comiled right into it?

I did some research recently on some travel sites.

Today, while trying to research which tab was doing DNS queries to SnapChat (which I never use) I learned about `about:processes`. I found 5 "hidden" tabs from various travel sites (some of which I never visited) running in the background. I did not explicitly hide any tabs.

WHY IS IT ALLOWED FOR SITES TO KEEP OPEN HIDDEN TABS AT ALL WITHOUT TELLING ME ABOUT IT?

This is not conducive to trusting Mozilla.

Yesterday I received non-stop pop ups from <opb-protect.pro> on Firefox, and only Firefox. On going to <Permissions> I checked that I had turned on block pop-ups. It was turned on. But under notifications this sinister pop up had inserted itself as <Allowed>. It has inserted this; <https://d3ka84anaffc73c14rf0.opb-protect.pro>

I had now set that to <Block>. I mention this because this mob have managed to work around the Mozilla pop-up blocker.

Today as I got to work (Windows 11 machine), I had a suspicious Firefox.exe file on my Desktop, it was not a shortcut, but exe file. I did a little investigation and research, and I noticed some difference from Program Files exe file and Firefox.exe on my Desktop:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe

Size: 695424 bytes SHA-256 hash: EEB242895F8ED48B43EAAA9ECA06C6DDE54425F8AE0E16200D2D46F839B9A540 File version: 145.0.0.327 Copyright: ©Firefox and Mozilla Developers Date modified: 16.11.2025 12:35 Original filename: firefox.exe Digital Signature: Mozilla Corporation

and Firefox.exe that appeared on Desktop

C:\Users\User\Desktop\Firefox.exe

Size: 389248 bytes SHA-256 hash: E8DA5735FE1B5E92BA3636B8D17B5BEC0EA521DB6A8B5A52177FF3E8B2F60710 File version: 145.0.0.327 Copyright: Licence: MPL 2 Date modified: 16.11.2025 12:35 Original filename: desktop-launcher.exe Digital Signature: Mozilla Corporation

I scanned both files in VirusTotal, and they both seems clean and legit

I uploaded both files to:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1kALgQbfhIpHqs1pN6dmTdF71nm10LlD-/view?usp=sharing

Can somebody assure me that both files are OK, and can somebody explain to me why Firefox.exe appeared on my Desktop, and why is there difference between two files in size, Copyright info, and original filename ?

I clicked on a link in a forum site - pentaxforums.com - that should have pulled up image from a private web site but I think the url has been hijacked, the image didn't appear and instead the browser started pinging alerts. I have run avast anti virus and malwarebytes, these found suspicous malware (trojan, key clone) and rebooted, but these alerts still keep appearing, however I am wondering of the browser alert system itself has been compromised. See screenshots. if I click on one it seems to be trying to go to a suspicious url. any advice appreciated Marcus Brown
