"Show release notes" fails in Add-ons Manager
Prior to manually updating extensions the "Show Release Notes" option fails with an error message. I always like to know what changes are going to be implemented before updating.
This has been occurring on every update of every extension for the last few months under FF28. FF29 has not fixed it.
- User Agent:
I just tried a manual Addons -> Extensions update and got an update for Adblock Plus. When I checked Recent Updates, The release notes were accessible (see attached).
Maybe the release notes only show up AFTER an update?EDIT: I just checked in another profile I had set to manually update addons. The release notes for Adblock Plus could also be viewed before installing the available update. Honestly, I've never even looked at that option in the Add-ons Manager
You didn't furnish the error message you saw and you didn't include any troubleshooting information showing your installed addons (see Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues for future reference). What you should probably do is visit the webpage for the add-on to see what updates are available.

P.S. I just found this bug report. See if it describes your issue (please see Bugzilla Etiquette before commenting in any bug reports).
- Bug 1003567 - addon update release notes 403 forbidden
The issue was just fixed today.
Yes that's the bug. Been going on for ages and I can't believe no-one else noticed or reported it.
Thanks for the Bugzilla link.
I'll wait for the next available update and see if it's fixed for me.
I'll mark my last answer with the bugzilla link as solving it, since it may be awhile before the next available extension update. You can always post back here if the issue isn't fixed.
By the way, when searching bugzilla I saw an older bug (Bug 745557) so this isn't the first time the problem was reported and fixed.

That was 2 years ago!
With all the extension developers rushing for compatibility with Australis I've already had a dozen or so updates in the last 2 days.
Thank you for your research but I'll mark this as solved as and when....
I gather you don't want to mark this question as solved just yet, which is fine.
The next time an update is available for one of your extensions, you can post back to confirm that
- A) the problem is actually fixed for you, or
- B) the problem is still unresolved
If your issue is still unresolved, you should supply troubleshooting information (your OS, Firefox version, Extensions, modified proferences, etc.) which you can do by copy/pasting the information from the Firefox Help -> Troubleshooting Information page. See Use the Troubleshooting Information page to help fix Firefox issues for details.
Will do. [I thought that info about add-ons was evident to you automatically]. Thanks again.
Fixed! Thank you Alice.
Good to hear!
Thanks for posting back to confirm that the problem is fixed.
