must I use search.us?
My default search uses Search.us. WOT reports this as of dubious reputation, can I change this? is there a better search engine?

Firefox is built with Google as the default, but this can be changed by add-ons or external software. There are a couple of places to check to track this down.
(1) Review Your Extensions
Disable ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
- Ctrl+Shift+a
- orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
(2) Check for a user.js file
When it starts up, Firefox checks for a user.js file and uses the settings in the file to override your previous session settings. This article describes how to check for and eliminate it: How to fix preferences that won't save.
(3) Restore Defaults
This extension will easily restore the default settings for your search engine, home page, and new tab page: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/ad.../searchreset/.
If the problem returns:
(4) Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program
(5) Malware Mop-up
Use some of the programs that other Firefox users have found helpful in this article: Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware.
Does that get rid of it?
