I have an account on a secure website for some investment accounts. When I get to my summary account page, and click on one of my accounts, there are three, the page for that account opens. On that page are several tabs and options for information, things like current amount, my investments, all investments account activity history. When I go into any of the accounts and select any of the tabs or options nothing happens. I can go back to the home page and select another account but the same thing happens. I contacted the company and they checked their end and said it's fine. I have used Firefox to access my information and download data for several years, but now it doesn't want to work. If I use Internet Explorer the tabs and options work fine.

You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:

Reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Not much we can do about that. It is a secure site with confidential information. Just use IE for that site.

You could try

Having done that if there is still a problem it may well be a problem with the website. Contact the site and ask them to check the site does work ok with Firefox.

Hi again BCFireman,

  • Did you also disable all plugins ?
    Disable or remove Add-ons_how-to-disable-plugins
  • Do you have any security related software that maybe interfering ?
  • Is it possible you could test that site and procedure using another device, with Firefox installed. Preferably a standard laptop or Desktop ?
  • Or at least find others who use that site with Firefox. I realise a financial site is unlikely to have a thriving Firefox support community !

It is likely to be an issue with that particular website, the next step should be to contact the website and ask them if it is tested and confirmed to work when using Firefox 27.

If you say what the site is, and it is used heavily you or others may find some answers already somewhere in a web search.

Disabling the Plugins did not help. I reloaded Firefox 26.0 and things are working again. There seems to be a problem with 27.0. Thank you for your assistance.

That is Not something I would do!

Glad it is working, but you would be better

  • Finding out why Firefox 27 is a problem so it may be solved
  • OR using Internet Explorer

Using an unsupported insecure version of Firefox is not to be recommended. That is especially so on a site dealing with your investments !

Did you look for any icons in the location bar that content was blocked?

more options

No I have not seen any indication that content is blocked. Pop-ups' are allowed, which I receive. I talked with the IT department for the website and they made some test and found that Fiefox 27.0 just doesn't work for their site. So I guess it's Internet Explorer from here on out.

A possible test in such cases is to right-click a button to see if that button is selected or something else.

A look at the Browser Console or Web Console (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) might also help.

I tried right-clicking on buttons on the page I'm having trouble with and others for comparison but I'm not sure what I'm seeing or finding. Buttons that work have different elements, but when I check the buttons that don't work they all have the same elements. I'm not sure what I'm testing for.

Sorry, I forget to write that you can use "Inspect Element" to open the built-in Inspector (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer;Ctrl+Shift+I).
