I do a google search and then when I used to click a link it would open in a new tab. However it no longer does this. I have tried all the following remedies to no avail.

I have tried under Tools>Options>Tabs and checking and unchecking the open new windows in a new tab. I have restarted the computer. I have tried it in safe mode and still no luck. I have tried typing in the url about:config and checked the specs but didn't work. I tried "Open Link in new tab" add on

None of these damn things work and I'm frustrated as %$%$. I am using firefox 25.0.1. What the heck can i do to fix things. Please someone out there help me with this I'm going insane.

For the Google website you can set preferences on the Google results page via the gear icon in the top right corner, click that button to open the menu list and select Search settings.

Where results open: Open search results in a new browser window.

You can set the Boolean pref browser.search.openintab to true on the about:config page to open the search results page in a new tab when doing a search via the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar.

Tried that. Still same crap doesn't work. Now on top of that when I have multiple tabs open and close the browser, it doesn't warn me even though I have the box selected in the options. This is $%#%#$ annoying I swear. Its like slowly my web browser is not registering the options selected, even in safe mode. WTF is going on

Which way are you using to open the links?

Is this with using the Google website or with using the search bar on the Navigation Toolbar?

You may not get a warning when you close Firefox in case you open tabs from the previous session automatically on the next start.

  • Tools > Options > General > Startup: "When Firefox Starts": *"Show my windows and tabs from last time"

It might also make a difference whether you use the close X on the title bar or the Exit (Quit) menu entry in the Firefox or File menu.
