Since FF upgraded me to Firefox 23 My tool bars are messed Every time I make a new toolbar Via "Customize" > "Add New Toolbar" after I exit it does not save.

Yes I read over 10 different articles on it.

1) I deleted the localstore.rdf and started from scratch. After 15 minutes of dragging all the icons to various toolbars I close out of Customize. I then restart Only to find my toolbar not saves and icon missing (placed back into the Customize Box)

2) Only solution ALWAYS given is going to Safe Mode and resetting everything. That requires me to spend 5 hours backing all the settings and data I have saved in the various 189 items loaded.

Why so many? If not that many I would have to spend 6 hour more all day on my computer doing things that many of these addons do for me. Time is Money.

3) This is not the first time over the 8 years or so of using Firefox this has occured.

4) Question why doen't save when you close out of "Customize" than when you exit? Plus what in Firefox is messed up that it is not saving right?

被選擇的解決方法

Tried creating a new profile, just to test if the new tool bar would return after closing, and yes, it did return. So I guess the root of the problem is in the profile.

Not sure if I want to go to the massive effort of trying to move everything piecemeal from the old profile over to the new profile.

I'll have to stick with the workaround.

You can try to first make a few customizations and close and restart Firefox to see if you keep those.

Is there a localstore.rdf file created/updated when you make changes to the toolbar customization?

If not then you may have other (security) software preventing Firefox from creating or modifying this file.

Do you otherwise have problems with files in the Firefox profile folder?

Deleting localstore.rdf should fix such issue, but you shouldn't have to do this all the time.

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

Yes I do notice the time/date changes when I do customize toolbar and close out Customize. But soon as I restart firefox and everything changes.

Like I have said before I have deleted my local store. and restarted FF. It does the same after I restart. It will not keep any new Toolbar when I "Add New Toolbar" and restart FF.

So I decided to go this route rather have this, than nothing at all.

Screenshot (Via Lightshot) http://prntscr.com/1lcd9i

I added my buttons to my Navigation bar. Moved my URL bar up to the Menu bar. All for space, plus I been doing that for couple years. (24 inch monitor)

So glad since FF23 the buttons stay on Menu bar. Before any extra button not part of Navigation URL bar would be taken off. (Example like Snap Back, Tiny Url Generato, Clear URL bar etc.)

Plus I made my own toolbar via "Customize" because when I tried to place them on the Navigation Toolbar they were removed every time a extension was updated I believe.

Again I just tried making a new toolbar and restaring it removed it.

Making a Toolbar..... Name:Test1234

Screenshot http://prntscr.com/1lcfwp

After I closed out of Customize it updated localstore.rdf

Screenshot http://prntscr.com/1lcg0r

Code when I opened localstore.rdf to notepad My toolbar was in Test1234

RDF:about="chrome://sessionmanager/content/session_prompt.xul#tabTree"

                  minheight="116"
                  height="116" />
 <RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#customToolbars"
                  toolbar1="Test1234:xnotifier-toolbar-button,SaveSession-button,PanelBookmark-toorbarbutton" />

Weird the code for my "Add New Toolbar" remains in localstore.rdf, yet when restarted Firefox it is not loading the code....

Screen Shot http://prntscr.com/1lch6v

So why is Firefox not loading the code?

So I made another toolbar.... Name"Pizza004

is this all the code for that ?

<RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#customToolbars"

                  toolbar1="Pizza004:minimize-window,ebay" />

Why do others toolbars code say after

<RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#(toolbar name)" iconsize="small" currentset="(button names)"/>

I opened the code in NoteTabPlus (code more organized)

Screen Shot http://prntscr.com/1lcl8y

Can you make clear why it is not loading the Customize Toolbar.

Can you try on yours to see if code is different or if you can add a New Toolbar and if it loads it again after restart Firefox ?

Ok I did some sleuthing. I copied all the text in the localstore.rdf Right After I "Add New Toolbar"

Save it to a new text file

I had the localstore.rdf file open in text editor and Closed Firefox.

It updated file.

I copied that text and save it to a new text file

I Reloaded Firefox and localstore.rdf file

It updated file.

So 3 different text files I collected (Customized, Closed and Restarted)

Nothing different really in the text when I did a Text Compare

What changes was Made?

stumble upon collapsed="true" />

something side bar <RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#sidebar-title" value="" />

And Add-on bar

So why isn't Firefox reading the code to load Customize toolbar?

 <RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#customToolbars"
                  toolbar1="Pizza004:minimize-window,ebay" />

Is it because of wrong code here?

 <RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul">

So I did a test.... after making a New Toolbar, added 2 buttons, it updated localstore.rdf file.

So while Firefox was opened I renamed in localstore.rdf My Toolbar

From

 <RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#customToolbars"
                  toolbar1="Pizza004:minimize-window,ebay" />

To

 <RDF:Description RDF:about="chrome://browser/content/browser.xul#customToolbars"
                  toolbar1="Test004:minimize-window,ebay" />

SAVED

It did nothing, the toolbar is still named Pizza004 .....

Question what other files in Firefox are updated when you Customize and "Add New Toolbar"  ?

Maybe that is where the issue is at.

You can only make changes to files in the Firefox profile folder when Firefox is closed.

Did you make sure that Firefox was fully closed when you edited the localstore.rdf file?

Did you check the file another time to see if the change is kept?

more options

Yes, Yes and Yes

Because I know the if I changed localstore.rdf with FF open it will change it when close anyway.

Like I am trying to figure out the code in the localstore.rdf does not change from after you Customize>>>"Add New Toolbar" >>>Restart ...

Yet Firefox is not reading it to reload it.

Do you happen to have the Mega add on installed? I noticed I lost my custom toolbar after I installed it. I uninstalled it and my custom toolbar now stays.

Did you ever find a solution ? I have this problem too.

FF26.0

more options

Nope, I tried it again and added buttons to the New Tool bar I made and everything disappeared once I restarted Firefox up again. So they have not solved it. From FF 23 now on FF26 and it has not been fixed

thanks for replying . I have done a work around by adding custom buttons to the main URL bar. At least they don't disappear. :/

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from an existing profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

Exactly what I did. Menu bar, Navigation bar and Web Developer tool bar. I have a 24" monitor
