Not all of my bookmarks are displayed in the bookmarks menu.
One day firefox messed up and I opened it to find the default everything. Default home and bookmarks on the tabs. I restarted firefox, and I got all my stuff back. However, in one of the folders where I had a bunch of bookmarks (2 folders with several in each, and a bunch of free floating ones) most of them vanished. I now have only seven of the bookmarks displayed. The bookmarks are still there though, because when I visited one of my previously bookmarked sites, the star was lit up, and it still showed the folder where it was before. The missing bookmarks are also not displayed in show all bookmarks.
In conclusion: My bookmarks are not displayed in one of the folders in the bookmarks menu. However, they still exist on the system. How can I get the to display again in the folder on the menu?

Hi Oron648,
Sorry you are having problems.
- Presumably you have no specific backups of bookmarks and have not synced with another device ?
- You may also have other versions of the file saved automatically by Windows
Preserve Data
First of all backup all your bookmarks and put them somewhere safe; outside the Firefox program and profile paths. Your desktop will be ok.
At the same time make a copy of the autobackups that Firefox makes, these will be in a subfolder of your profile
- see Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data
- use the troubleshooting option and [Show Folder] as a quick method of finding the profile
Possible Repairs
IF the problem is corruption of your database (places.sqlite) either repair or replace it. It is worth installing and running this extension
It will give you a short report on the state of the database. It is also possible to try some fixes that may just work. It is unlikely to cause any damage or loose data.
Next you may wish to look carefully at your bookmarks opening all the folders in case they have just been re-arranged inadvertently. Open the bookmarks manager / Library
- use keyboard shortcut Ctrl + Shift + B , or the menu
- see also Bookmarks in Firefox
Stop at this point and post back if you find the missing bookmarks still exist. (You can also use the search option in the library, search for : [a colon] and it will display the whole lot in a scrollable list.)
if you have lost them then it is normally a case of deleting the data base and allowing Firefox to attempt to repopulate it from one of the auto backups. An alternative worth trying first (You do have some backups on the desktop now) is to take advantage of modern Windows OS ability to restore previous versions of files. The file concerned is places.sqlite
