Hi

I have uploaded Firefox 22 on my laptop but in various websites; i.e., shipspotting.com, You Tube, My Yahoo, etc. I am unable to utilize the upload functions on those websites and the bookmarks function is not working properly in the My Yahoo website.

When I got into Safe Mode, I could utilize the upload functions for shipspotting and You Tube; but, when I rebooted to regular mode the old problem returned and uploading photos, videos, etc. was not possible.

Any suggestions to correct this problem?

I have the same problem with Chrome and Internet explorer browsers.

Iyogi... experts will be looking at my laptop on 7-17-13 and your suggestions will be passed along to them.

The safe mode we used was Windows safe mode.

Updated: 7-18-2013

Iyogi experts agreed with me that the Total Defense security program they convinced me to install was too tight, too confining and the cause of my internet uploading problems. Total Defense was uninstalled, cost refunded and a hopefully less invasive virus protection was obtained, free, from Microsoft.

Internet browsers, Chrome, IE, and Firefox working smoothly now.

Was it Windows Safe Mode or Firefox Safe Mode?

If it was Firefox Safe Mode...

Firefox's Safe Mode disables your themes and extensions, and also turns off hardware acceleration of graphics, certain customizations, and the JavaScript compiler. Complete details are in this article: Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode.

To know which of those changes are relevant, the least painful place to start is the following. Since you will need to restart Firefox after making these changes, save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).

(1) Disable Firefox's use of hardware graphics acceleration

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced

On the "General" mini-tab, uncheck the box for "Use hardware acceleration when available"

(2) Disable ALL nonessential and/or unrecognized extensions

If it doubt, disable:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category

Restart Firefox using one of the supplied links. Any improvement?

Thanks for your suggestion, but unchecking hardware acceleration and disabling add-ons then rebooting did nothing to correct upload problems.

Could you clarify your original reference to Safe Mode -- did you mean Windows Safe Mode or Firefox's Safe Mode?

In case a recent software installation introduced some malware or other undesirable software to your system, you may want to run some supplemental scans. These three tools are highly regarded (and free):

When multiple browsers display the same issue, a likely culprit is a filter or system-level setting. Things to investigate include:

  • Add-ons you use in all browsers that could change how sites respond, e.g., privacy filters or cookie blockers. To check in Firefox, disable all nonessential extensions on this tab and then restart Firefox using one of the links provided there:

orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
  • Internet Explorer connection settings: do you use a proxy or filtering or anonymizing service?
  • Security, privacy, or filtering software: are some sites completely blocked? does the software block cookies or "referer" information? are "third party" sites or cookies blocked (this can wreck sites that split their content over multiple servers)?
  • Parental control software: programs like BlueCoat K9 sometimes need to be updated when sites split their content between multiple servers.
  • Windows hosts file: sometimes a server is blocked in this file by malware (blocking good sites) or by suggestions for ad blocking.
