I tried to import bookmarks from Opera via HTML and firefox screwed them up!

The folders I had in Opera were not shown in firefox and loads of bookmarks just dumped on the top level

Tied this three times now with different versions of Firefox (also from different versions of Opera)

Was hoping to move over to firefox for good but if this does not work am stuck using Opera!

Is there any way to get around this? apart from moving hundreds of bookmarks manually?

Another way is

In Opera:
File > Import and Export - > Export bookmarks as HTML...

Then in Firefox:
Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks -> Import & Backup - Import HTML... = From HTML file

but I have already tried that on my last attempt and still the bookmarks were not in the correct folders

Any other ideas welcome, as I hesitate to go back to Opera as the latest version uses a Chrome engine and I am trying to get rid of everything to do with google as they are snooping on everybody

You can open that HTML backup in Firefox for inspection.

You can check if all bookmarks are in the file in the order that you expect.

No they were all at the top level - trashed

Cant see which bookmark apples to each folder otherwise would spend a couple of Days! manually moving them

Looks like I am stuck with opera even tho they are using google chrome and I am trying to get rid of all things google because Mr Snowden said they are snooping on us

All ideas thankfully received ....... to try and sort this problem so that I can ditch Opera

The mess u see in Mozilla after import is Opera trash. U have to empty Opera bookmark trash before export into html. :)

Bookmarks > Manage bookmarks > on left bottom u see Trash > right click and Empty trash > ;)

I had the same problem.

At the first I tried with firefox built in wizard "Import Data from Another Browser..." but that wizard didn't show opera in the list of browsers from where to import data. Then I tried to import bookmarks manualy. When i emptyed my "Opera bookmark's trash" exporting and importing bookmarks manualy via html file was Successful. I got exactly the same bookmarks structure in firefox what I had in opera. Thanks.

Although, it would be much easier when firefox importing wizard would work. Pleas fix it.
