how do I remove the Selection Links pop up ad box after deleting both the program and Firefox add-on and restarting firefox 18.0.2?

I also now have a problem with words being highlighted on a page like Craigs List and when I mouse over an ad opens up. This and the selection Link pop-up on the bottom of the screen is most disconcerting.

this sounds like a problem possibly caused by malware on your pc. please go to firefox > addons > extensions & remove any suspicious entries (toolbars, things that you have not installed intentionally, don't know what purpose they serve, etc). also go to the windows control panel / programs and remove all toolbars or potentially unwanted software from there and do a full scan of your system with the security software that you have in place and different other tools like the free version of malwarebytes & adwcleaner.

I went into options and unchecked Third party Cookies and that seemed to work on the Selection Link pop box. However the Craigs List pages seem to highlight various word for pop up window ads, which are still popping. I guess that's not Firefox and something new on Craigs List. I do have Malewarebytes and run it often. Thank you for your quick response and assistance!!

please go to firefox > help > troubleshooting information & copy the text to clipboard and then paste it here as a reply... also have you tried running a scan with the other program i've recommended yet?

I ran a fast scan with 15 objects, removed them and restarted Firefox. I am now running a deep scan.

ok, there are now no obviously malicious extensions present - are the pop-ups still appearing?

what you also can do is to enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) and search for the preferences named general.useragent.extra.brc & keyword.url - right-click and reset those entrie to their default value, since they might be remnants of the adware.

FOUND: general.useragent.extra.brc & keyword.url - right-click and reset those entree to their default value it was highlighted and I right clicked and set as default. Will see if it now cleared up. Thank you for your patience and awesome help!

ok, i had another look at your extensions list & would recommend disabling or removing PutLockerDownloader & VideoFileDownload - Download YouTube Videos too, since they are quite uncommon and also might come bundled with adware...

I disabled Putlocker, too. The pop-ups have stopped but will have to restart Firefox again to make sure. Thank you

Restarted seems fine no pop-ups except Craigs List but i think that's their adverts. Thank you!!!
