Flash crashing suddenly (Firefox 18.0.1)
Flash just started causing Firefox to freeze (not crash, therefore; no crash id's (Correction Below)). It was working fine until an hour or two ago. Also, Firefox now freezes on other sites. This just started less then 30 mintues ago. It seems, there are a few ways to 'temporarily' fix the issue, but it always occurs again immediately. First, if I use task manager to end the Adobe Flash process, Firefox unfreezes. Second, as far as it freezing on other sites, the only way to unfreeze Firefox is to end task on the Plugin Container for Firefox process.
I find it weird that this just started happened with no cause. I have not made any changes to my computer in months (neither software nor hardware wise) and I know I don't have any virus' or the like as I keep that very well in check.
As far as what I have done to 'attempt' fixing this issue, I have already tried updating Flash, downgrading Flash to 10.3, upgrading Flash back to 11.x. Restarting Firefox, rebooting the computer, booting into safe-mode, running Firefox in Safe-Mode, uninstalling & reinstalling Firefox (with a reboot in between). Nothing has fixed this issue. Any help would be very much appreciated.
P.S. I have no issues of any kind in IE, Chrome, nor Opera so I know this is a Firefox issue.
P.P.S. Checked about:crashes and found that Firefox actually made crash information on the flash plugin (but don't see one on the plugin container issue). Anyways, it was throttled so sent it on. Here is the information on that;

Keep in mind, this was before I reinstalled Firefox, no new entries since reinstall.

hello, maybe it's an issue with the protected mode in the flash plugin - you could try if downgrading to flash 10.3 (which is still supported) or disabling protected mode makes a difference.
Ok, as my first post, I already tried the downgrade option, that didn't work. I have not tried the other option yet, will attempt it once Adobe Forums is out of maintenance mode.
Also, as a follow-up, 90% of sites are causing Firefox to freeze now. I am having to constantly end task on the Plugin Container in order to unfreeze the browser, so, based on this information, this might not be a flash issue and is actually more of a browser issue. What strikes me as odd about this is the fact that a full removal and reinstall of Firefox did not fix it.
P.S. Also, please do not suggest reinstalling again with a full profile wipe. If it is something in my profile causing this, there has to be some work-around as I have WAAAY to much stuff to be able to afford wiping it.
Won't suggest a re-install. I never do it. I reset it. 18.0.1 reset works great. It copies your bookmarks and passwords to a fresh profile. Just have to re-install any extensions. Its a good chance to abandon some extensions, there are only a relative few worth keeping.
Your comment about having WAAAY too much stuff is a dead end for anyone trying to help you. Extensions? Bookmarks? Passwords? What stuff?
I have a similar problem with flash crashing but it only effects my Vista Home 32 systems and other than the protected mode change (have not tried yet) have not had any effect. I found that if I go to the test Adobe flash page when I first start Firefox and leave it open I can then use flash on the other sites without crashing. I have seen the same problem on friends Vista 32 but have not seen it in XP 32 or Windows 7. Possible conflict with Vista 32?
Hello bigjohn43701, we have seen the problem in win 7 as well (and in vista of course). I realize about the protected mode and that one of the Microsoft Security updates might effect it also. It is a thing that for me it allows me to surf the web without flash crashing every time I open a page. Why it works for me, I don't know but it is easier than trying to take it out of the protected mode or changing security settings on the computer to allow flash. Why that page will allow flash to start and continue running is something I can't explain. All I know is that it allows me to surf the web without flash constantly closing.
