This problem started earlier this week and occurs on websites I have used and trusted for years, including Weather.com. I am only experiencing this problem on my laptop. The Mozilla browser on my desktop does not give me this error message. I have browsed your help page and tried the listed solutions of checking the date and time of my computer, which is correct, as well as deleting the cert8db. file. Nothing has corrected this. What else can be causing this problem? It cannot be the websites otherwise I would be getting this message on my other computer. I am using Windows XP.

hello jedwards, what security software are you using & what error code is shown under technical details when you're having problems loading the page? thank you

I am using Microsoft security essentials. My error message is this: "www.weather.com uses an invalid security certificate.

The certificate is only valid for the following names:

 a248.e.akamai.net , *.akamaihd.net , *.akamaihd-staging.net

(Error code: ssl_error_bad_cert_domain)"

i've looked at the ssl version weather.com & it's an error on their part, they seem to have technical difficulties at the moment. when you add a temporary exception for the worn certificate they are submitting then all you get is a "Service Unavailable" error message by the server.

Its not just weather.com. And if its an error on their part, why am I not getting the untrusted connection message on my other computer?

more options

the error is only present when you attempt to make a secure connection to the page, maybe you're visiting http://www.weather.com on your other computer & not https://www.weather.com ...

Excellent! I tried http instead of https and I was able to connect. Thank you. That solves the problem.
