"Protected tab" is a function added by an Add-on.

I see that you have Tax Mix Plus installed. If you are referring to the "Protect Tab" option that TMP added to the Tabs context menu (right-click on a tab) or the Main context menu (right-click on the body of a site page), below is information about that from the Tab Mix Plus "Help page". Only Locked or Frozen tabs will give you what you want (can be in combination with Protect tab; read about all three on the page section below). The settings for what is displayed on the Tab context (right-click menu) can be chosen in Tab Mix Plus Options > Menu > Tab Context Menu (and Main Context Menu).

I will study your answer. Just that I expected add-ons to work the same if all you did was just upgrade Firefox and change nothing else. That's why I thought it might be a Firefox iussue

I am a long time user of both Firefox and Tab Mix Plus. The functioning of a Protected tab when using TMP has not changed from version to version of Firefox or TMP.

As I said and as the TMP help page describes,

• the function of Protect tab to to keep from closing the tab by removing the close ("X") from the tab, but you can still navigate to other sites/pages using that tab.
• the function of Locked tab or Frozen tab (Locked+Protected) will keep you from navigating to another page on that tab.

I should add that another option I enable is to open **any** clicked link into a new tab--so any click on any page opens a new tab. This is very hand for me but I close a lot of Tabs as well

When I simply upgraded to 12.0, doing nothing else, as I was clicking on new links, the "protected" tab changed. Now I undersatand that "protection" alone does not keep a tab from changing, but the other option I had enabled, to always open a NEW tab, did not seem to be working the same.

I know what I saw. I was clikcing on new links and expecting to see new tabls on my right, butthe left-most "protected" tab was changing. Not always but at times it was, when before I never saw this.

I am back to 10.0 for now using backup. I will repoeat the upgrade and see if this happens all over again

Well I just upgraded to 12, and what I reported before happend just now. I opened my page that I keep protected. I then opened another page that should open a new tab, and it did not --it changed the protected tab.

it is not the issue of tab protection that is not working the same -- it is an issue of always opening a new tab.

Either Tab MixPlus or Firefox is not acting the same after a simpe upgrade from Firefox 10 to 12

Check your settings in TMP Options > Events > Tab Opening to be sure you have the correct options set for when/from what souces (bookmarks, address bar, etc.) to open new tab.

Installing a no longer supported version of Firefox is risky. There are uncorrected, never to be corrected security and stability issues in Firefox 10. By installing an unsupported version of Firefox, you are accepting any and all risks to your system and the personal information on your system.

I have done that. Here is what they are in 10, and nothing changed by when I went to12 (unless 12 forcibly changed something)

I think there is a probem here

A Protected tab will go to a new site when clicking on a link on page displayed on a Protected tab. Left-click on links do not open new tabs under TMP unless the tab is Locked. Otherwise, to open new tabs from links, use one of the Firefox built-in methods:

• middle-click the link (press the scroll wheel)
• CTRL+left-click the link
• right-click the link and choose Open in New Tab.

OK I will, but I think your are then saying that Tab Mix Plus behavior HAS changed from versions of FireFox, something you previously stated was NOT the case.

Have you verified the behavior I am seeing???

Somewhere you must be "reading between the lines" and believe me, there is nothing between the lines but white space.

I added to my immediate previous post. You might want to re-read it, especially the new first paragraph. You have not explained how you are opening a new site, and that is the only possibility that might be causing a problem, that occurs to me, but I am tired of trying to guess without more detailed information from you.

Nothing in Firefox versions has changed the functioning of TMP. You can ask that question on the TMP forum for validation.

I have been as clear as I possibly can be. I can not verify what you are seeing unless I can look over your shoulder as you are using your system and that is impossible.

Ok, I will explain. I have a book mark saved on my Smartest Bookmark bar that is set to http://www.marketwatch.com/

I click on that and that web page opens up. I then "protect" that tab. The next icon on Bookmark bar is ebay.com. In 10 when I click on that icon, it opens a tab NEXT to Marketwatch.com tab. In 12, the Marketwatch.com tab changes to ebay.com

It's that simple

Something in 12 is making Tab Mix Plus act differently, and Tab Mic Plus needs to update itself to fix this BUG!

If the marketwatch.com tab is still selected after protecting it, and you then click on a link to ebay.com , the marketwatch.com protected tab will be overwritten by ebay.com. If you LOCK the marketwatch.com tab instead of protecting it, the ebay.com bookmark will open a new tab. If you have Bookmarks selected in the TMP Options > Events > Tab Opening, the ebay.com link should open in a new tab.

• You need to remove Tab Utilities if you have settled on TMP. Using Add-ons with similar functions could result in conflicts.
• You need to remove Duplicate this Tab as is has not been updated by the developer beyond Firefox 4.

• Protected tab = removes the "X" close button from the tab only. You can still navigate to other pages/sites on that tab.
• Locked tab = you can not navigate to other sites/pages on that tab and the "X" close button is available to close the LOCKED tab. If the LOCKED tab is currently selected and you click a bookmark, link, enter an address in the address bar, etc, a new tab will open for that new bookmarked/linked/address bar page.
• Frozen tab = a combination of Protected and Locked. There is no "X" close button on the tab and you can not navigate to another page on that tab by any means

NONE of the above 3 functions (Protect, Lock, Freeze) have changed in TMP or been affected by a new version of Firefox.

Not in 10.0. With no tabs loaded, I open marketwatch, and since it is the first and only tab, it is highlighted. I protect it. Opennig ebay opens a 2nd tab in 10 (but not 12), as I expect given my Tab Mix Options settings.

These are the tab utilities I have on my system

With the Tab Mix Setting I showed you, it should open a new tab **rergardless** of whether the previous tab is highlighted. That what happes in 10, but not 12.

If the problem is related to the other tab utilties, well that's another thing. But in 10 everything works exactly as my settings say they should act

I removed all the disabled tab utilties. I removed Duplicate Tab, I restarted 10. NO changed in behavior (works as expected--remove the tab utils had NO impoact)

I upgraded to 12.0

SAME NONSENSE!

The Tab Mix Options setting to **always** open a new tab, does not work in 12.0 as in 10.0. IT has nothing to do with the tab utils I had diabled or Duplicate Tab add-on, since all of these are now gone

Going back to 10.0. Something is not right in 12.0 with Tab Mix Options. My setting say "ALWAYS open a new tab" and this is NOT WORKING in 12.0

I have never experienced the problem that you have. I currently have Firefox 12.0 (Release), 13b1 (Beta) and 14a2 (Aurora) installed on my system and can not duplicate your problem. I update each release, beta and aurora version as they are available and all have separate profiles with the same extensions, including Tab Mix Plus. Tab Mix Plus has always worked as expected for me and does so currently. Something is misconfigured on your system or is conflicting with Tab Mix Plus. I can help you no further.

You will need to post on the Tab Mix Plus forum for assistance.

I have no further suggestions for you.

By the way, I thought I would try this one more time--upgrafed to 12, except this time I LOCKED, PROTECTED, FROZE that first marketwatch.com tab.

When I went to open the 2nd Ebay tab, the MARKETWATCH TAB changed and a 2nd tav did NOT open up!! But in 10 there is no problem

I submitted issue to the TMP forum

I installed their latest development build, and checked/unchecked some TMP config options, that then cleared up the issue
