this is the entry in about:config for activate 1 click : browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll (double click-it if this is false to make it true) but is only for the contents of the address bar when it is clicked.

type in the address bar about:config

then press the button i'l be careful i promise

then type in the bar browser.urlbar.clickSelectsAll

then double click on it to make it true

press OK, exit firefox and restart.

a "link" means links within websites (not in address bar!).

And FF 7.0.1 shows same "reacts only on double clicks"-behaviour (see above) on text boxes, pushbuttons ... on all user interface objects!

If you start Firefox in safe mode (Abgesicherten Modus), does that solve the problem?

a simple restart (into normal FF mode) clears that problem ... until it appears again!

With FF safe mode the problem appears again, after a while and from time to time. So, add-ons cannot be the problem's source.

There is no pattern (time intervall / websites / etc.) to see.

Hmm, my only suspicion is, that the problem possibly concerns "ajax".

HEY, is JUST happend while editing another forum post right within THIS SAME textbox: I only wanted to type a simple word ... and Firefox changed to - not accepting focus to the textbox - not reacting on single clicks - FF was able to scroll tabs, but switches focus to another tab only by double click - even open the FILE menu and choose EXIT needs a double click.

Strange, strange, strange!!!!!!!!!!

One day later on Sunday: Firefox changed again from single click to "only accepting double clicks" , is "unable to focus text boxes for edit, instead a warning sound is played", needs "even for the window scroll bar a double click, because dragging scroll bar doesn't work" but funny is, that scrolling a page with the mouse scroll wheel is possible. All these buggy things started to NOT WORK while I was scrolling on a wikipedia page!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, I tried a couple of other windows programs and web browsers (Opera 11.52, IE9, Chrome 14, Iron 14) and all of them work normal.

Only Firefox shows that buggy bedhaviour!

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.

Try to decrease the value of the pref network.http.max-connections from 255 to a setting like 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

network.http.max-connections=30 (already set it days befor) didn't solve all the problems or bugs. Also "safe mode" and "deactivate all add-ons" didn't solve anything!

(1.) FF 7.0.1 ignores clicks and recognizes ONLY double clicks to start a single click function (including scroll bars, tab changes, buttons, FF menues and even the window close button)

(2.) Download stops for 30 seconds up to several minutes, then gets a short amount of data over net and stops again (tested(!): while "2" other browser (Opera, Chrome) can download same files from same sources continously!)

(3.) once or twice a week FF 7.0.1 loses stored sessions.

(4.) New behaviour (or bug?) is, that FF 7.0.1 newly changes download folders according to mime types (sounds like a lame excuse to me). All the previous releases followed my configuration: the last download folder has been used as long as I didn't change to another download folder.

So, my bottom line is: Today I downgraded to Firefox 4.0.1 ... and I'm trying Chrome (misses a lot of configuration details) and Opera (odd configurations, and shows sometimes different site layout) as alternative browsers. May be that FF will be out, if the team can't get FF stable and reliable!

That behaviour (not responding to single click, need a double click to produce a single click) still happens in FF 8.0 (last) beta and FF 8.0 production.

(2) and (3) seem to be solved in FF 8.0.

Sounds like a focus problem where something takes focus off that window and requires to refocus fist before allowing to click the link.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

Ok, I think this issue (changing behaviour: needs double click to get single click reaction) is --SOLVED--:

I disabled all add-ons and enabled/tested one by one ... this was, it seems, that the "Multi Links 3.0.0.16" add-on was the problem.

I replaced it with "Snap Links 2.1.1" (installed, but tried the new one not yet), and within 1 week daily work of 10 - 12 I never got that bug again.

SOLVED!
