Tab navigation - revert to standard keyboard shortcuts

The standard tab navigation behavior is that control-tab will move to the next tab, and control-shift tab moves to the previous tab, as described on http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Keyboard%20shortcuts#w_windows-tabs

The current behavior in my browser is that hitting control-tab brings up a list of tab previews and moves between them in an order I don't quite understand. Hitting control-shift-tab will bring up a slightly different list of tab previous that requires clicking.

Is this the new standard behavior? Is there any way I can bring it back to the old behavior?

The CTRL+arrow keys will only work if you are focused on a tab. To focus on a tab:

  • CTRL+L focuses on the Location/URL bar
  • then press the keyboard Tab key until you see a dotted outline around the text on a tab (2 presses of the Tab key for me); you are now focused on a tab
  • now you can use the CTRL+arrow keys

Not related to your question, but...

You need to update some plug-ins:

You have a number of old Java Console versions. See below.

Java Console
Unless you do Java programming/development or debug Java applets on web pages, you do not need Java Console. Java update will install a new Java Console with each update. Removing the Java Console extensions has no effect on the functioning of Java for web browsing. You can see, but not remove, the Java Console extensions in Add-ons > Extensions. Java Console extensions can be safely removed manually by following the instructions in this article:

Not quite what I was looking for - the control-arrow key functionality moves around the order of the tabs, but I'm interested in navigating from tab-to-tab with the control-tab functionality.

Thanks for the tips on the plugins!
