I keep being told by various sites, including Firefox itself, that I have an old version of Firefox, while I actually have 5.0 version. How is that possible?

A number of sites keep on telling me that I have an old version of the browser and insist that I should upgrade it, despite the fact that I have Firefox 5.0. Now I've tried to add one of firefox apps and firefox site itself told me that I need to upgrade my browser because according to them I have 2.0!! I checked and doublechecked info in "about firefox" and it tells me I'm using version 5.0.
