I have had firefox for a couple months now, and have never had a problem before. However, last night, my laptop overheated and when I started it once it cooled down, it did a system restore to an earlier date (which it didn't specify). Now when I try to open firefox it just crashes instantly. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, and it still does the same thing. Is there anything I can do? I can still use IE (oh great) and Google Chrome (better at least...) just fine, but firefox seems not to like me any more at all... Am I stuck with these other, inferior browsers forever or is there a fix? Please help me!

Just some quick comments.

It should be possible to re-install firefox 4 and get it working. Unfortunately depending on what the restore did you may have lost bookmarks and passwords etc that would have been stored in your profile If you are able to find any profiles folders for any users on the current system, or on any backups that you have available, make sure they are copied somewhere safe, thy may become useful in restoring information. It is also worth copying any folders named bookmarkbackups that are likely to be in the directory structure above the "profiles"

It is possible that you may solve the crash problem, and it may be possible to get a crash signature using another browser. Something else to investigate is whether firefox is crashing or hanging.

How important is any bookmarked info or pass-words etc that Firefox held ?

The bookedmarked info, etc, is unimportant to me - I just liked the way firefox ran better than the other browsers, so I'd like to be able to use it again... and it definitely crashes: I open firefox, the page comes up for just a split second, and then goes away and the crash screen comes up. I've hit the button to send the error info each time, hoping that somehow it'll help, but no luck so far.

Have a read of the article I linked in the last post

You need to try to work out what is causing the crash. You could try re-installing firefox, but that may not necessarily solve the problem. Because there are so many possible causes of crashes it would be helpful if you read the article. It may also prove useful to follow the instructions about obtaining a crash signature.

The information I provided the link to does mention firefox crashing when it opens, or when it closes, and goes on to give possible causes.
