I hate Firefox 4! My favorite add on doesn't work, it is slow and locks up. I run Windows 7. Can I uninstall 4 and go back to the old version? If so, how?
As a former programmer, I am dismayed that such a poor version would be released! It reminds me of dealing with Windows 98!

Sorry to hear that. You can revert to v3.6.16, but ultimately, support will be withdrawn for that eventually.
To revert to an older version, download Firefox 3.6.16
Then go to Add/Remove Programs and choose to uninstall Firefox 4.0, but don't checkmark the option to remove your bookmarks, customizations etc. Those will be retained for you so that you can continue using them when you reinstall v3.6.16
Reboot and then run the v3.6.16 file you downloaded.
Check from time to time whether there have been any security updates released for that version by clicking Help | Check For Updates

Yeah, I'm back on Firefox 3.6 as well. I think a lot of people are. Out of curiosity, which add-on was causing problems? For me, the add-on that didn't work was Fastest Fox.
I just switched back to 3.6. I spent the last week dealing with FF4.0 locking up, not ending properly, slow browsing and trying to get used to the new UI. All I can say is Google is laughing their butt off over this monstrous mistake. This will go down as one of the stupidest blunders in online history.
It's usable - just - but it isn't very nice. I hate the fact that half the time it doesn't close properly and you have to load up the desktop manager and close it from there. But what I hate most is that the so-called "awesome bar" isn't, any more; it just takes you to Google. Time was, it would usually take you to where you wanted to go, or else make you giggle by its idea of where you wanted to go.... now it just goes to Google, and I already have a Google search tab! I do hope both these issues will be fixed in the next upgrade.
My Roboform used to work now it will not anymore and I keep getting a box popping up to download a program that I have already downloaded and installed. This version really stinks and they are taking away the support for the older version before this one is even proven yet? Not Cool!!!!
this version is almost unusable it takes for ever to connect and that is if you are lucky I am reverting to the older version which there was no problems when you fix it let all of us know
I have downloaded an installed version 4.0 once again, but I agree this version is perhaps the worst I've seen for Firefox. I await to see if 3,6.16 will indeed be supported an if the answer is yes I will be switching back. Frankly 4.0 is a bust IMO.
Thanks thewildman
Uninstalled 4.0, If and when the support for 3.6 ends...Ill stop using FF alltogether!
4.0...what a waste of time and effort.
*looks at Opera*

I think we can see that a good number of folk think 4.0 sucks. Perhaps someone from Mozilla can reply to all of these obvious complaints.
Thanks thewildman
I wish I had seen your post before I tried going back to 3.16 I was all over the place, including Mirror sites, because I kept getting links to 4.0 instead of older versions. One page that showed I could get 3.16 fooled me and when it started downloading I could see it was 4.0 all over again.
I've tried Firefox 4 twice. The only way to get your computer back is to "System Restore" to and earlier time/date, then re-download (old 3.16 does not work after System restore) and install 3.16.
I run Vista and FF 4. I began to have these problems. I tried all of the remedies in 'Basic Troubleshooting' but nothing was a permanent fix. But then I noticed that I was having these problems with other programs I use, not just FF or on an internet connection. So I thought, what was the last program I had downloaded? Turned out to be WLXPhotoGallery. A part of that program lets me change the images shown on my desktop in a 'slide' format, and timed. So, I changed the compatibility of the PhotoGallery program to Windows Vista with NO Service Paks. So far, no problems! Maybe......?
The version V4 is horrible. It loads to slow, my forward and backward buttons don't work. My Bookmarks toolbar comes and goes. I've deleted it and looking for a older copy of v3 .. You've ruin a good product ...
I hope someone is reading this !!!!
No performance issues--since I've had v4 a total of 10 minutes, most of which has been figuring out the revert procedure. EIGHT of my add-ons were disabled: Aardvark, Custom Buttons2, Delicious, .NET, PopupMaster, QuickJava, Save Complete, Unhide Passwords. Though swapping the order of the tabs and toolbar is unpleasant as well--what was so broke there they had to "fix" it?
Since ~v3 I've wanted a PRE-upgrade compatibility check so I don't have to keep doing this up->down exercise after discovering a chunk of my add-on favs were kaput.
I had problems with firefox4 also. I even uninstalled it at one point. I decided to reinstall and started with all addons disabled. The difference was amazing. Everything worked with no freeze ups and no stalls. I then enabled my addons one or two at a time until I found the culprit which was persona. My problems also included the search bar after the address bar not working. Removing persona also solved that problem. I would now recommend firefox 4 but disable all addons and start adding them as I did to make sure you don't have a problem like I had.
Apparantly FF4 does not support Roboform and the only way to get Roboform to work with FF4 is to purchase the new Roboform.
I discovered this yesterday so have gone back to FF3.6. Once they stop supporting this I will need to revert to another browser as there is no way I am paying again for Roboform as I already paid a lifetime fee for it.
Roboform says its new version works with FF4, but in my experience it didn't. So I've gone back to FF3, and the new version of Roboform, and my life is peaceful again.
Thank you ff devs for pointing me, even inadvertently, to a usable browser-Apple's safari! Even though safari doesn't have ever feature it IS dependable. I just downloaded the security update for ff-it updated by losing all my tabs AND history. Thank you so much-I have deleted every aspect of ff from my computer and am just happy to never again be a guinea pig for the pre-beta garbage called firefox!
Bye go ahead and call me names-I'm doing the same to you!
