I had separate Reload and Stop buttons to the left of my Awesome Bar, but was able to get the reload/stop bar to appear in the bar by going to the Firefox button, then Options, then Toolbar Layout. I drug the Reload button to the right of the Awesome Bar, then the Stop button to the Right of the Reload button - when I closed the Toolbar Layout dialog, the combined Reload/Stop button appeared in the Awesome Bar. The problem here is "smart stop/reload". I had the same problem and resolved it by uninstalling the add-on. Not sure why they should interact in this way, but this worked for me.
Also nochmal um zusammenzufassen. Die Reihenfolge von links nach rechts muss sein: Adressbar, Reload, Stop. Show muss auf Icon gestellt sein. Mit Text und Icon funktioniert es nicht.
