Some sites providing secure connections suggest that I close my browser after exiting their site in order to further protect my login / password etc.

I wonder if that is required step for all secure connections?

This is not a Firefox performance issue, just a general question.

If would be better to use Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox instead or access the site in Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode. Closing Firefox doesn't remove personal data stored in the cache or cookies if you keep them until they expire. To remove everything (including saved passwords and form data and cookies and cache) you can use "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of the History.
