Can't find any reference to this problem having been previously reported...

Under Windows XP SP3 -The problem happens with Mozilla 3.8.12 & Seamonkey 2.0.9 but not with IE 8 or Chrome 5.0.3... Recently several sites I access have started using files with long extension names. When I save pages from these sites and try to access them later on my hard disk both Firefox & Seamonkey give me a 'Parsing Error' message as soon as I access the directory where the files are located, which prevents me from loading any other files in that directory.

Sample error message is:

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed Location: file:///C:/1019 Line Number 201, Column 186:

<td sortable-data="20.66A4!OpenElement&FieldElemFormat=gif"><a class="file" href="0.66A4!OpenElement&FieldElemFormat=gif">File:0.66A4!OpenElement&FieldElemFormat=gif</a></td>

Example Files causing the problem:

0.66A4!OpenElement&FieldElemFormat=gif

5.275E!OpenElement&FieldElemFormat=gif
8.4DA0!OpenElement&FieldElemFormat=gif

When those files are located in any sub directory, Firefox & Seamonkey give the error message and fail to read other pages or files in that sub directory.

To bypass the problem for now I have shifted offending files to a new "Junk extension" sub directory.
