Hi I've recently come across this problem of Google images only showing the first page of images with the rest being blank grey boxes. After trawling the web for days it seems this has been an ongoing problem for many for several months now but I haven't seen any solutions that have worked for me. I've cleared the cache and temp files, I've un-checked 'disable or replace context menus' on firefox etc. It seems to run ok on ie8 but I prefer to use Firefox if at all possible. Is there a solution out there?

I am on XP Pro sp3 using FF 3.6.11

  • "Clear the Cache": Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Offline Storage (Cache): "Clear Now"
  • "Remove the Cookies" from sites that cause problems: Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.

You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

Thanks for reply cor-el. Tried all that and no difference I'm afraid. Still only shows first page of image results. Very, very frustrating. If I click on an image result, it takes me to the site but the image is broken - small white box with blue 'x' Same happens if I click on a grey box 'image' any more ideas?

This was happening to me (only getting one page of images after a search.) I disabled the AdBlock Plus ad-on and the problem was solved.

I agree with evilklown. After getting sick of the grey box issue, i went through all my extensions, disabling them 1 by 1, with a page of images for it to refresh when it restarts. As soon as I disabled the ABP extension, all the images loaded correctly, with no grey boxes. Upon re-enabling ABP, the boxes returned. I think the ABP ppl have created a good extension that worked with the old Images interface, but has issues with Images loading so many pics from different locations. What they need to do is figure out where the bug lies, and put the solution in the updates section. BTW, whenever I go to sites that have a lot of thumbnails and banners, ads, basically junk, ABP works fine. So far the issue seems to be solely in the Google Images page. Great little add-on, with just a couple of minor bugs.

I switched off XUL runner in the addins options and then google images worked as it should. I am finding FF4 to be really buggy.

Same as FreddieN - disabled XUL runner and immediately images started working perfectly!

The XULRunner extension that you see in Tools > Add-ons > Extensions is malware and should be removed if present.
