(This issue has been ongoing for several versions now. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, and tried safe mode.)

The right click menu, within the menu bar drop down menus, disappears as soon as I move the mouse. Making it impossible to select anything from it.

For example: I click "Bookmarks" in the menu bar and get a drop down window of all my bookmarks. I then mouse over a bookmark and right click to get the drop down menu that will let me "Open", "Open in new Window", "Open in new Tab", etc... As soon as I move the mouse, this menu disappears. I cannot mouse over it to make a selection.

If I don't move the mouse I can use the arrow keys to make a selection and then hit enter.

On JoliOS/JoliCLOUD ( UbuntuLINUX based OS ) I found that simply clicking on the JoliCLOUD "home" icon or pressing the "windows key" which brings you back to the HTML5 "desktop", then diving back in again to Firefox seems to drive the bug away.

No need to shut-down or restart Firefox. Just go back to your desktop then return to Firefox.

It's a quick, temporary fix. However, I would like to get to the bottom of fixing it for good! Just for the record, I'm running Firefox 10.0.2 ( Mozilla Firefox for Ubuntu )

I have the same problem. I am running FF 12.0 on Ubuntu 11.10. I tried the following solutions in vain (i always restarted firefox after each attempt):

- disable or replace context menus (checked and unchecked; left it unchecked) - disabling hardware acceleration (is now permanently unchecked) - disabling ALL addons with the plan of enabling them one-by-one. the bug occured even with all disabled.

i also read that disabling the shockwave plugin might help. i'll try that next but i see little hope. i love FF but this is annoying as hell. even though it much likely is more of ubuntu's fault, it's easier to switch a browser than an OS...... my prefered workaround was going to edit->preferences and closing the window again. but atm i run into the problem almost every time. :(

for the record: before trying the "disable hardware acceleration" i only had problems using right-click. after that even left-clicks on e.g. the edit menu (to get to preferences) caused this behavior.

those problems also arise when using thunderbird.

This is happening for me on Ubuntu 12.04 with firefox 12. It started happening after an update a few weeksk ago. When I first start the browser everything works fine. Eventually right-click menus stop working. The address bar auto complete drop-down stops, and folders on my bookmarks bar stop opening. Restarting the browser solves it.

The menus seem to open and then disappear quickly. The only thing that would work is the menu bar in the Unity menu at the top of the screen, but since I shut down the unity plug in the menu bar doesn't work either.

I have shut off all extensions, tunrned of "use hardware acceleration", and turned off "Disable or replace contex menus" in the javascript section.

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.

See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":

There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.

If the new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.
