Little snippets of text from web pages that have been long closed show up directly under my cursor while I'm browsing other web pages, almost like a residual ghost image is still there even though the web page is closed.

I have been treating this as a mild annoyance but this last time the snippet of text was off my bank web page and now it should probably be regarded as a security bug.

While it doesn't happen with every page that's been closed, it's easy to duplicate with each session - just surf for a minute or so and it happens. There doesn't seem to be a pattern as to what text will be 'copied' from which page. The cursor must be moved to random spots and then held still on the open current page for the text from the closed web page to be displayed. Once the text appears, moving the cursor with the mouse makes the text disappear.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).

See Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems and Troubleshoot issues with plugins like Flash or Java to fix common Firefox problems

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.

You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the Safe mode start window to disable all extensions.

You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
