Press the Alt key, this will temporarily bring up the menu bar. Now select the View menu, then the Toolbars entry, then click on the name of the toolbar to toggle displaying the toolbar. (First select menu bar to make it display permanently).

Hi John--I had the same problem. Here was the cure:

hit alt and the tool bar reappears. It will disappear in a couple of seconds uknless you click on "View". There you will find various tool bar labels. Click on the ones you want and they will remain.
