I'm a long-time Firefox user. Suddenly, it's become so slow that I can't use it, even for simple browsing. Videos play but are so delayed and choppy that they are unwatchable. When Firefox is open, it slows down other applications as well. I've noticed that Plug-In Container uses a lot of memory, so I followed suggestions in https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/forum/1/657035, including disabling plug-ins and installing only the latest version of Java (6.0.21), but there's been no improvement. I would appreciate any suggestions. Also, are Firefox developers working on this issue? If so, is there an estimate of when the problem might be resolved? Thank you.

I'm about to get rid of this browser. It uses 1.5-2+Gb memory and it will freeze after some hours for no apparent reason. one time it is starting a movie, the other time it is when closing a tab. Exiting the proper way may take ages. Starting FF when a ghost process is still running; no stupid user! The only reason I use it is because of ad-block. Yes, got a fast machine, yes, up to date, yes, disabled and even uninstalled plugins, yes, applied about:config hacks-for-geeks, yes, still the same.

Been using firefox for years without issue and suddenly i am having the same problem as the OP and many others. When using firefox everything grinds to a halt. I have also disabled the plug in container but this has not helped. I am really disappointed this issue has arisen and i hope firefox are taking it seriously. I have had to download google chrome just to send this message. Sort it out Firefox please and don't deny what is happening to a great many of your users.

I really don't want to download a second browser but my computer is UNusable! All was well until this plugin container was added in. Is anyone going to help with this issue???

Yup - same thing. I've been using Firefox for many years now, on PCs and now a Mac. In the last couple of months I've had to stop using it for Gmail and I downloaded Chrome. It confirmed my suspicion, it wasn't my connection or my laptop, it was the browser. Chrome is instant, it reacts to my mouse, my typing, instantly. It loads pages fast. It just doesn't have any of the things that I love about Firefox so I keep Firefox open for all my other browsing. But trying to shop on Amazon just now was so excruciatingly slow I had to give up and do it on Chrome.

What's going on Firefox? Even typing this message, my mouse, scroll and typing are seconds behind my movement. This is killing me!

I'd like to voice my frustration as well. Firefox seems to hang at random ever since the update. I'm not sure if it has to do with flash; even when I try to configure my options (tools->options), I notice a 5-6 second lag in which everything is "frozen" before the box will appear.

Going to try Firefox 4 Beta to see if this issue will be fixed. If not, I'll have to roll back to an earlier version.

Adding my voice to this: I went to 3.5, only to have it crash daily. I stayed on 3.0 but as each incremental version came out, it crashed more often (three times daily). Now with 3.6.6, I wait seconds before a page scrolls, and there’s up to eight seconds’ delay for characters to appear when typing. I’m hunting for 3.0 again—I’d rather put up with the three daily crashes than the slowness of this version.

halt/frozen all the time. I am an FF fan and is losing faith.

I uninstalled Google Toolbar and the frozen disappeared. Guess Google is not so friendly to FF nowadays.

all of a sudden firefox is unusable, I just got rid of it after so many years, but I feel like I had no choice as Mozilla is not helping and basically they are not even accepting there is a problem.

To everyone experiencing this problem with 3.6.6, try Firefox 4 Beta. I mentioned that I would give it a test earlier in this thread and I did: it runs like a charm. Very stable.

It's gotten so slow that even going to sites like amazon.com, it LAGS and LAGS...no fast scroll.

Any site with pictures takes forever, any site w/ a background image is absurd to deal with. REALLY getting tired of it!

Think I have no choice but to go back to MS
