until 4 days ago my firefox hoMEPAGE DISPLAYED THE ICONS I USE DAILY: xfinity - mail and streaming, Amazon, Facebook ... now I cannot get to any of those, WHY????????

It's possible something on the system got locked — could you please try shutting down the machine completely, and restarting the whole system to see if there's any change?
By "cannot get to any of those" do you mean the sites won't even open if you access them manually or from searching — or that just the pinned shortcut icons on the home screen are not visible?
Do any of your other data, settings, history or bookmarks look affected or everything else is still there?
