Firefox is my default browser and Firefox doesn't seem to know that I updated

more options

I "create a new profile" days ago what I first received the notice to update. It seem to work except when I click on a url to view. I received instead the notice that I am in the old firefox and to "Update". I did again and it seem to work until I clicked a url to view and again received a notice to "update by creating a profile.

It's very frustrating - Now I can't open firefox at all. It wants me to "fix it" or create a new profile"

Was the original problem with "external" links, for example, in Microsoft Word or Adobe Acrobat, or "internal" links in a tab in Firefox?

At this point, I suggest a little further investigation. Could you take a look at what Firefox thinks you were using before? Here's how:

Type or paste this shortcut path into the Windows search box, or the address bar of Windows File Explorer, then press Enter to submit it:

%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles

Each of the weirdly named folders here will have its own compatibility.ini file which lists the last-used version of Firefox. Do you see any results that indicate a newer version of Firefox than the current releases:

  • 138.0.4 (regular release)
  • 128.10.1 (Extended Support Release)
